Patrick Corbin Bouncing Back Strong In May
4 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin got off to a horrendous start to the 2021 season. He allowed 15 earned runs over his first two starts (6 1/3 innings) and posted an ugly 10.47 ERA over four starts in April. Since then, he's looked much more like his prime self. He's recorded quality starts in three of his four starts in May. He has a 3.24 ERA over the four starts. He's also seen an increase in velocity, which is probably the most promising development. His slider, which is his primary pitch, had been averaging around 78 mph through the early going this year. However, in his most recent starts, he's had an average velocity around 80 mph for the pitch. We'll see if he can keep building off of his strong start to May on Sunday, when he faces the Baltimore Orioles.
