Paolo Espino Solid For Five Innings Sunday
4 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Paolo Espino was solid for five innings Sunday, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk in five innings against the Baltimore Orioles. He struck out six batters. All three of his runs allowed were on solo shots, but he was still in position for a win when he left the game. Unfortunately, he took a no-decision when Brad Hand blew the save. Espino has no place on fantasy rosters except in the deepest of NL-only leagues, but he's been decent this season with a 3.21 ERA and 1.05 ERA in 23 appearances including seven starts.

Paolo Espino Roughed Up By Phillies
3 years agoWashington Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino was roughed up by the Philadelphia Phillies in the team's 11-0 blowout loss on Tuesday. Espino was touched up for four earned runs on six hits (two home runs allowed) while walking one and striking out three in just 3 2/3 innings of work. The 35-year-old veteran hurler took his second loss of the season and raised his ERA to 3.33 in the process in his fifth start of the season. He's allowed six home runs in his five starts since joining the starting rotation in mid-June, and he has a rough 4.91 ERA and 1.41 WHIP while walking seven and striking out 17 in 22 innings over his five starts. Espino has been much better in relief and should be avoided for now as a fantasy streamer.
