Panthers Could Cut Jonathan Stewart
Jonathan Stewart in order to clear $3.7 million in salary cap room this offseason. Carolina ranked fourth in rushing in the NFL in 2017, but Stewart didn't really help all that much, running for a career-low 3.4 yards per carry and topping 100 yards just twice. Rookie Christian McCaffrey wasn't much better on the ground, but he had a team-high 80 receptions out of the backfield, and the Panthers may be moving on from Stewart under new offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who prefers to move the ball deep down the field. J-Stew will be 31 in March, and at this point in his career is more of a touchdown-dependent plodder.
