1 month agoRico Hoey began his week at the Sanderson Farms well enough. The golfer from the Philippines shot a 68 and then proceeded to get progressively worse each round. Hoey finished off his weekend with a 76 on Sunday that dropped him all the way to 68th. Hoey had a similar result in July at the 3M Open before bouncing back at the Valspar (T-22nd). Since the end of June, he has three four-round stretches in the 60's. However, before that, Hoey missed five consecutive cuts. Considering the golfer missed four in a row to start 2024, there is a hot and cold nature to his game. Playing on the new Utah course could be an adjustment which causes lost strokes for Hoey. 1 month agoDoug Ghim is ranked 92nd on the PGA Tour. The American has netted one Top 25 result since a string of five consecutive such results from February into March. Ghim opened with a 66 at Sanderson Farms last week but eventually fell off the pace at -14. That finish placed him just outside the Top 30 and nine shots off the pace. Ghim had the same familiar problem at the Procore Championship in September. His 72-72 weekend dropped him out of contention. How does he fare on a brand new golf course? Black Desert saw its back nine open in May of 2023. The front opened late in 2022. Ghim comes in 135th in strokes gained to putting at -0.244. That has been negative the past two tournaments. It might be a challenge again this weekend for Ghim.Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoChris Kirk has not played since Labor Day weekend. The American golfer will make his return at the Black Desert golf course this week as the Black Desert Championship debuts. Kirk opened his 2024 year with a win at The Sentry. He netted a third Top 10 at the BMW Championship but faltered at the Tour Championship (finishing T-27th). Overall putting and approaches for Kirk are slightly below average. Greens in regulation are at 65.02% which ranks 122nd. The 7.288-yard Utah course seems to favor those who can get on the greens without much issue. If Kirk can work out the rust, he could be a reasonable DFS option this week.Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoHarris English ranks 57th in the FedEx Fall Cup. He wants to get into the Top 50. The American again had the same problem at Sanderson Farms last week. Birdies were not plentiful as English missed his second consecutive cut. The Black Desert Resort is a Tom Weiskopf designed course. At 7,288 yards and picturesque views, there will be birdie opportunities. English has lost strokes due to putting the past two events. Can he reverse that this week? Over the season, English ranks inside the Top 20. Even his putts per round ranks 31st at 28.48. Also, if English can get to the greens without issue, that will be a boost for him early.Source: PGATour.com
1 month agoChan Kim started out well at Sanderson Farms last week with consecutive rounds of 67. The weekend saw the American fall off the pace with back-to-back rounds of 70. That left Kim nine shots off the pace and outside the Top 30 on Sunday. Kim did begin to falter in the Procore Championship in September as well. He shot a 73 in the final round missing several makable birdie putts. Putting remains an issue for Kim (146th at -0.332 strokes gained). With several putting metrics in the red including average putts (1.761 - 102nd), Kim might have a challenge staying in contention. Source: PGA Tour
1 month agoAdam Svensson is coming off a missed cut in Mississippi due to poor putting, as the Canadian lost over four strokes on the greens through his two rounds played. However, before last week, his previous two events saw him averaging plus-1.45 strokes gained on the greens en route to T7 and T13 finishes. The other worry outside of his putter is his lackluster approach statistics that may not bode well on greens averaging 7,000 square feet, as he ranks 93rd on the year in proximity to the hole (37 feet, six inches). He also ranks 76th in the field in three-putt avoidance on bent-grass greens and 128th on the year overall. At $9,800 on FanDuel, there are better options around him.Source: PGA Tour
1 month agoIt was a solid week in Mississippi for Michael Thorbjornsen as the young 23-year-old rode a hot putter to a T8 finish. He ranked seventh on the week in strokes gained putting (+1.48) and fourth in strokes gained off the tee (+0.88), both of which he was very hot and cold in the seven events played in the regular season after turning pro in June. Getting acclimated to the professional circuit is an uphill battle for most players, and it certainly appears that Thorbjornsen is no different. That being said, a new venue for the PGA Tour levels the playing field for new guys going up against journeyman players with a wealth of course knowledge. It wouldn't be surprising to see someone with his talent put together another solid showing, even if the overall stats don't support it. At $10,600 on FanDuel, it's a hefty price to pay for such a wide variety of outcomes and should be viewed as a risky play with high upside should the strong play with the driver and putter continue.Source: Data Golf
1 month agoIt's been a solid run of golf since mid-July for Patrick Fishburn, as the 32-year-old has only missed one cut in six events over that span. He is coming off a disappointing week in Mississippi, finishing tied for 48th with mediocre play across the board minus a solid week around the greens where he gained over two strokes. For someone who just finished his rookie campaign on the PGA Tour, a new event at a brand-new course could be beneficial for bouncing back and continuing his stellar run. Black Desert Resort looks to provide generous room off the tee but will be very penalizing on missed fairways. Fishburn ranked 8th in the 2024 regular season in strokes gained off the tee (+0.632) and grades out as the top player in the field in strokes gained putting on bentgrass surfaces (averaging +1.21 over his last 12 rounds). At $10,900 on FanDuel, a big week could be in store for the former BYU golfer.Source: PGA Tour

2 months agoEric Cole is slated to tee it up in this week's Sanderson Farms Championship. The 2023 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year will look to regain some of the magic he displayed last season. After recording seven top-10 finishes during his breakout 2023 campaign, Cole managed just four top-10 results this season. However, some of his strongest finishes did come down the stretch of the regular season and in similar scoring conditions to those he'll find at the Country Club of Jackson this week. The 36-year-old got off to a rough start to the FedEx Cup Fall season with a missed cut at the Procore Championship two weeks ago. He possesses DFS upside at the Sanderson, though his consistency has been lacking as of late.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoMackenzie Hughes is set to tee it up in this week's Sanderson Farms Championship. Hughes will look to rebound from a rough outing at the Presidents Cup, where he posted an underwhelming 1-3-0 record in the International Team's loss to the United States. The Canadian could find more luck on Mississippi soil. Hughes won the 2022 edition of the Sanderson Farms Championship and scored a T4 in the lead-up to the Presidents Cup at the Procore Championship while gaining an impressive 8.5 strokes tee-to-green. Though the fatigue factor is a real concern following last week's roller coaster of emotions, the 33-year-old is very capable of putting together a profitable week for his DFS backers at the Country Club of Jackson.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoHenrik Norlander heads to Mississippi for this week's Sanderson Farms Championship highly motivated to solidify his full PGA Tour playing privileges for 2025. Currently 131st on the FedEx Fall Points List, Norlander will need to crack the Top 125 before the end of the year to keep full status on the Tour for the upcoming year. There's a strong chance he answers the bell, as his track record at Country Club of Jackson is downright elite. Norlander has logged three top-five finishes in his last four Sanderson Farms starts and leads this week's field of entrants in strokes gained total in the event since 2020. His previous performances on this layout make him an intriguing salary saver for DFS purposes this week.Source: PGA Tour
2 months agoRyan Fox placed T61 at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour two weeks ago, marking a positive turnaround after missing the cut in his two previous events. Despite his recent inconsistency, Fox has delivered solid performances in 2024 with three top-10 finishes. It's worth noting that at last year's Sanderson Farms Championship, more than 30% of approach shots came from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Fox ranks in the 67th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots in the fairway from this distance. While Fox has shown flashes of brilliance this year, including him in DFS lineups entails some risk.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoCharley Hoffman finished T26 at the Procore Championship two weeks ago. He will now focus on preparing for the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Jackson Country Club this week. Hoffman hasn't missed the cut in his previous five appearances, including two top-15 finishes. At last year's Sanderson Farms Championship, over 30% of approach shots came from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Hoffman ranks in the 68th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from this distance in the fairway. Considering Hoffman's recent consistency, he could be a solid addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 months agoMatthew McCarty is set to make his first PGA Tour appearance of the 2024 season at the Jackson Country Club for the Sanderson Farms Championship. McCarty has had an excellent season on the Korn Ferry Tour, finishing in the top 10 four times and winning three times in his previous nine tournaments. He is currently the number-one ranked player on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, with an Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) of 74. Although McCarty may be overlooked this week, he could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
