1 month agoGreen Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed a 65-yard bomb to wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks on the third play from scrimmage in the Packers' 23-10 preseason win over the Browns. The Packers' starters did not see much action because their opening drive ended so strongly. While Love ended 2023 on a tear, he still needs to prove that he can be an elite quarterback on a weekly basis throughout an entire season. Saturday's game did nothing to suggest that he will not continue his ascension. Fantasy managers can be confident in drafting Love with the quality of pass catchers surrounding him. He may very well exceed his lofty 2023 numbers of 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. Hopefully, fantasy managers will be able to watch Love at least one more time during the preseason.Source: ESPN
1 month agoGreen Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) was forced to exit early during Saturday's preseason matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The rookie back only saw two touches before exiting the contest. The organization will likely have Lloyd undergo further testing before knowing the severity of the injury. He's competing for a spot on the roster behind Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon.Source: Green Bay Packers

1 month agoGreen Bay Packers kickers Greg Joseph and Anders Carlson are in a competition for the starting job in 2024 after the team cut rookie James Turner last week. Carlson, a sixth-round pick last year, struggled at the end of his first year in the NFL, included a missed 41-yard field goal late in the Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It's been a close competition between the two in training camp, but ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes that Joseph has a slight advantage through the early portion based solely on the numbers. Joseph had made 36 of 40 field goals, while Carlson was 33-for-40. Carlson's only miss at practice last Saturday was from 57 yards out, though. Head coach Matt LaFleur anticipates the kicking competition playing out throughout the preseason, so Carlson has time to flip the script.Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
1 month agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (calf) has returned to the practice field at training camp on Thursday after he was held out of practice on Wednesday with a minor calf injury. Reed also missed the early part of camp due to an injury, but he's fine now and should be 100 percent for the start of the 2024 regular season, barring any other injury setbacks in camp or the preseason. The 24-year-old is the team's starting slot receiver but could have a tough time replicating his impressive rookie season in which he scored 10 total touchdowns (eight receiving, two rushing) in 16 games. Reed's production was helped by the fact that Christian Watson missed time due to injury. He's a big part of Green Bay's offense moving forward, but as long as Watson and Romeo Doubs are healthy, fantasy managers should be concerned about target volume for Reed.Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
1 month agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) took a hit to his left knee on the last play of training camp practice on Wednesday and stayed face down on the grass while teammates took a knee around him. Watson eventually got up and walked gingerly under his own power, giving two thumbs up to a camera on the sideline. "It's a little sore, but it's just a bruise, so nothing that's going to stop me from doing anything," Watson said. Depending on how he feels later in the week, the Packers could hold Watson out of the preseason opener on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns as a precaution, but it looks like he avoided a serious injury. The 25-year-old has plenty of big-play ability, but durability issues and questions about target volume make him more of a boom/bust WR4/flex in fantasy drafts.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
1 month agoGreen Bay's head coach, Matt LaFleur, had high praise for running back Josh Jacobs, particularly highlighting his skills in the passing game. LaFleur expressed excitement about Jacobs' versatility, noting his significant contributions as a pass-blocker and a receiving threat out of the backfield. This enthusiasm is reassuring for Jacobs' supporters, who already anticipated his crucial role in early down-rushing and goal-line situations. If Jacobs also takes on a receiving role, his fantasy value could soar this season. Conversely, this development could impact rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd, who hoped to showcase his passing game skills. LaFleur further emphasized Jacobs' toughness and rugged running style, suggesting that his actual value might only be fully appreciated in live tackling situations, where his reputation as a punishing runner will be evident. Given LaFleur's endorsement of Jacobs as a primary early down back with potential added receiving duties, he could be a strong pick in the 3rd round of drafts.Source: The Coachspeak Index @CoachspeakIndex
1 month agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (calf) was held out of training camp practice on Wednesday due to a calf injury. The Packers haven't given any indication that Reed's calf injury is a long-term ailment, but it's worth noting after he also missed the start of training camp due to a toe injury. Even if his calf injury isn't serious, there's a good chance he'll be held out of this weekend's preseason opener as a precaution. The 24-year-old second-year pass-catcher turned heads with eight touchdowns on 64 receptions and 793 yards in 16 games (13 starts) in his rookie season last year. Reed showed he has a nose for the end zone and plenty of big-play ability through the air and on the ground, but volume could be a question as long as both Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs stay healthy. Heading into Year 2 in 2024, fantasy managers should consider Reed more of a touchdown-dependent WR3/flex.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
1 month agoGreen Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that quarterback Jordan Love will play in this week's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns. Love, who recently signed a four-year contract extension worth $220 million ($155 million in full guarantees), probably won't play more than a handful of offensive series against Cleveland. The former 26th overall pick in 2020 out of Utah State really impressed in his first full NFL season in 2023, throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and also leading Green Bay to an upset win on the road in the playoffs over the Dallas Cowboys. While Love's aerial weapons are young, there is plenty of potential for the 25-year-old signal-caller to build off last year's impressive campaign. He has quickly vaulted into low-end QB1 territory in fantasy.Source: NFL.com - Jason B Hirschhorn
2 months agoGreen Bay Packers second-year tight end Tucker Kraft (pectoral) has passed his physical and was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday. Kraft will now be eligible to rejoin his teammates at practice in training camp, although it remains to be seen if he'll play in the preseason opener this Saturday against the Cleveland Browns. Now that the 23-year-old is recovered from a pectoral tear that he suffered this offseason, he'll compete for the starting tight end job, primarily with Luke Musgrave. In his rookie campaign last year, Kraft caught 31 of his 40 targets for 355 yards and two touchdowns in 17 regular-season games (eight starts). Most of his production came when Musgrave missed six games due to injury, so unless that happens again, Kraft will probably be a matchup-based, touchdown-dependent TE2 streamer in fantasy.Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates
2 months agoGreen Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (groin) was back on the practice field this weekend. This is good news after Jacobs missed practice on Thursday due to a minor groin issue. The injury appears to be behind him as Jacobs is back on the practice field. The Packers haven't tipped their hand to which back is going to be the starter heading into Week 1. The assumption is that Jacobs would lead the charge after signing almost a $50 million multi-year deal over the offseason. Possibly, Jacobs and AJ Dillon will split up the workload which would hinder the value of both players. Nonetheless, Jacobs is back on the field so fantasy managers don't have to worry about this injury lingering into the regular season.Source: Matt Schneidman
2 months agoGreen Bay Packers kicker Greg Joseph has been outperforming returning starter Anders Carlson thus far in camp. Joseph is connecting on kicks at a 94% clip (29-of-31), including 7-for-7 at Thursday's practice, while Carlson has hit just 81% of his total attempts (25-of-31). This is a significant development as the Packers ranked 12th last season in points per game and project to be better this year with another year of growth for Jordan Love. Whoever holds the starting kicker position for Green Bay is sure to provide substantial value for fantasy managers this coming fall. Joseph is RotoBaller's K20, and Carlson was the K24 in 2023. There is an excellent chance for this ADP to be outperformed by one of these players while kicking for a rising Packers offense.Source: Packers Wire

2 months agoOn his second day back from his pre-training camp hip injury on Wednesday, Green Bay Packers rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd (hip) returned to team repetitions after only doing individual work on Tuesday. It's good news for the 23-year-old as he attempts to learn a new offense entering his first year in the big leagues. While he's going to start the preseason as the team's RB3 behind Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon, the explosive third-round selection could easily surpass Dillon on the RB depth chart, especially if Dillon continues to look sluggish like he did in 2023. The 5-foot-9, 220-pounder will merely be a sleeper option in deeper fantasy leagues to begin the 2024 season, but as long as he can stay healthy, he should become a bigger part of Green Bay's offense later this year.Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
