2 days agoArizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte (hamstring) is likely headed to the injured list after straining his left hamstring while rounding the bases in Friday's 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals. The 31-year-old strained his hamstring in the first inning after hitting what would have been an easy triple off right-hander Jake Irvin. Marte eventually limped off the field and probably will need to miss more than the next 10 days as he rehabs his injured hamstring. Garrett Hampson replaced Marte as a pinch-runner and at second base and should see most of the playing time at the keystone moving forward with Marte on the shelf. It's a tough break for Arizona to lose one of their best all-around players after just signing him to a six-year, $116 million extension this week. Keep Marte stashed in all fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: FOX 10 Phoenix - Megan Plain

2 days agoMiami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (finger) is scheduled to make his second minor-league rehab start on Sunday for Triple-A Jacksonville. In his first rehab start with Jacksonville on Tuesday, Cabrera looked good with one earned run allowed on three hits while walking none and striking out four in three innings of work. The only run the 26-year-old allowed came on a solo bomb in the second inning. He threw 27 of his 46 pitches for strikes. Cabrera will likely need at least one more rehab start following his outing on Sunday before the Fish consider activating him from the 15-day injured list for his 2025 debut. The Dominican hurler has swing-and-miss stuff with a 26 percent strikeout rate in his four seasons in the big leagues, but he's also had an elevated 13.3 percent walk rate and has continually been set back by injuries. Cabrera is worth rostering for his strikeout upside in NL-only leagues, but his inconsistency has made him hard to trust in mixed leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola

2 days agoDue to weather conditions, Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Matt Brash (elbow) will end up remaining with the team through their weekend series in San Francisco against the Giants, but he's nearing a minor-league rehab assignment and is still on target to return from the injured list in late April. Because he's returning from Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2024, Brash won't immediately be put into a late-inning setup role that he was working in late in 2023 in front of closer Andres Munoz. MLB.com's Daniel Kramer writes that in an ideal scenario, he'd be deployed at the outset of a clean inning, somewhere after the pivot guy relieves a starter but well before Munoz at the end of the game. When fully healthy, the M's are envisioning having a three-headed monster of Munoz, Brash and Gregory Santos at the back end of their bullpen in high-leverage situations.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Daniel Kramer

2 days agoUpdating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte (hamstring) was removed from Friday's 6-4 win over the hosting Washington Nationals with a left-hamstring strain. Marte hit what should have been an easy triple in the first inning off right-hander Jake Irvin but strained his hammy rounding the bases and settled for a double before limping off the field and being replaced by Garrett Hampson. The 31-year-old, who just signed a six-year, $116 million deal with the D-backs the other day, looked to be in quite a bit of pain, so fantasy managers may want to prepare for a potential trip to the injured list. If that comes to fruition, Hampson would most likely be in line for most of the playing time at the keystone for the Snakes. Marte has been one of the most productive second baseman in recent seasons, so he should be stashed in all fantasy leagues if he goes on the IL.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Arizona Diamondbacks

2 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jordan Romano was called upon to hold a 3-0 lead against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Romano got into trouble quickly as he walked Mookie Betts and gave up a two-run blast to Tommy Edman. He would put the tying run on base, but Romano was able to punch out a couple of batters and work out of the jam. He earned his first save of the season, but Romano holds a 9.00 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and has walked three batters in four innings of work. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Jose Alvarado who could quickly take over as the closer in Philadelphia.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez did a little bit of everything during Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Rodriguez was hitless over his last two games coming into Friday's contest, but he made up for it here. He went 3-for-6 with a home run, stolen base, and one walk in a wild 10-9 loss in 11 innings. Rodriguez took right-hander Justin Verlander deep for his second blast of the season. The 24-year-old hasn't been great at the plate this season, but remains a must-start fantasy option. Hopefully this performance will help Rodriguez get it going at the plate.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll came ready to swing the bat during Friday's game against the Washington Nationals. Carroll took right-hander Jake Irvin deep with a solo shot in the third inning. After that, Carroll gave the D-Backs the lead with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. He finished his day 2-for-4 with two homers, three RBI, and a walk in the win. The speedy outfielder is hitting .258 with three homers, six RBI, and surprisingly zero steals on the season. The 24-year-old is a must-start in all fantasy formats right now.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill was incredibly successful on the mound during Friday's outing against the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander tossed 5.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits, three walks, and struck out four in the win. It's a shame he wasn't able to go deeper into the game, but the Mets bullpen was almost just as sharp as Megill was on Friday. Megill has allowed one run on five hits over 10.1 innings during his first second starts of the season. He'll head into a favorable matchup against the Miami Marlins during his next start.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu continued his impressive start to the season during Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Abreu wasted little time as he took starting pitcher Erick Fedde deep in the first inning. The fun didn't stop there for Abreu as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the victory. After that game, Abreu is hitting .500 with three homers and eight RBI through eight games. He is quickly becoming a must-have fantasy option with the way he's swinging the bat.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Shota Imanaga was excellent on the mound during the home opener against the San Diego Padres on Friday. The left-hander was almost perfect outside of a solo home run to catcher Martin Maldonado in the third inning. He allowed four hits, one run, and registered four strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings of work in the win. Imanaga has been impressive through two starts with a 0.98 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings of work. He'll look to keep the good times rolling against the Texas Rangers during his next start.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

2 days agoToronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Ryan Burr (shoulder) is working towards potentially throwing his first bullpen session next week, according to manager John Schneider. Right-shoulder inflammation kept Burr out for all of spring training, and he's still trying to work his way back to eventually begin facing live hitters. Because of how long he's gone without facing hitters, it wouldn't be a surprise if the 30-year-old veteran wasn't able to make his season debut until sometime in May. The former fifth-round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 out of Arizona State University made 34 appearances (four starts) in his first season with Toronto last year and had a 4.13 ERA (3.07 FIP) and a 1.255 WHIP with a career-high 47 strikeouts and 12 walks in 32 2/3 innings pitched. Burr is off the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi

2 days agoThe Washington Nationals are waiting to decide on who their starter will be on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but MASN's Mark Zuckerman reports that if rookie right-hander Brad Lord isn't needed out of the bullpen before then, he could make his first career start. Lord, who is considered the team's No. 22 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made the Opening Day roster for the first time and has allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking two and striking out none in two innings in his first three major-league appearances. The reason the Nats need a starter for Sunday's series finale against Arizona is because right-hander Michael Soroka (biceps) landed on the injured list on Friday. If Lord makes the start this weekend, fantasy managers will want to stay away since he won't be efficiently stretched out to go very deep in that contest.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MASN Sports - Mark Zuckerman

2 days agoThe Texas Rangers have placed starting pitching prospect Jack Leiter (finger) on the 15-day injured list due to a blister. In a corresponding move, the Rangers promoted veteran left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin from Triple-A Round Rock. Leiter was able to earn a spot in the starting rotation out of camp. After struggling during his first taste of the big leagues last summer, Leiter was able to start turning the corner in 2025. Across his first two outings, the former second overall pick logged 10 innings of one-run ball. He allowed six hits and held a stellar 1:10 BB:K. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Leiter on an injured reserve spot on their roster as Leiter should rejoin the rotation once cleared to return. Corbin will likely earn a temporary spot in the rotation but should not be targeted in any formats as he held a high 5.62 ERA across 174 2/3 innings last season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Texas Rangers

2 days agoChicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said on Friday that infielder Vidal Brujan (elbow) has stalled in his rehab and has had continued symptoms, especially with his throwing. Brujan landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right elbow that he suffered after just one game played, and now he'll miss even more time. It's a good bet that he won't be back until at least May given this latest news. When healthy, the 27-year-old won't have much fantasy value anyway as a backup infielder for the Cubs. The Dominican infielder also has some experience in the outfield and will primarily be useful to Chicago for his defensive versatility when healthy. Brujan has been overmatched at the plate in his five big-league seasons, slashing just .189/.261/.270 with a .531 OPS, five home runs, 40 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 202 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Chicago Sun-Times - Maddie Lee

Fantasy Football Dynasty Rookie Draft: Superflex, 12-Team (2025)

Don't we all love mock drafts? I sure do. The monotony of them can get... monotonous after a while when the vast majority of them just have short, shallow write-ups of each player without giving an emphatic, helpful take on each. I hope to do the opposite. Considering how far consensus can be (and usually […]

Early 2025 Fantasy Football Mock Draft: 12-Team, Single QB

There's never any reason not to do more fantasy football mock drafts and break down the efficacy of every pick. Or so the saying goes. Sun-Tzu probably said that in The Art of War. I haven't read the whole thing, so I'm not sure. Either way, it's never not interesting to speculate on what the […]

Top 10 Fantasy Football Busts Of All Time - Le'Veon Bell, Peyton Hillis, LeSean McCoy, and more

Fantasy football managers have the fear of picking busts fresh in their minds every season because every year, players who are thought to be headed for productive seasons, whether due to injury, not reaching overly high expectations, or other reasons, bust hard. Every AFC Team's Most Overvalued Dynasty Fantasy Football Player

The 16 teams that comprise the AFC all have players that I don't think are worth, on their own, what you could get for them in trades as compensation. Not all of them are bad players, though. In fact, some of them are quite good. "Most overvalued" is a relative thing. And since there's not […]
