4 weeks agoLos Angeles Chargers tight end Hayden Hurst (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he logged a full session on Friday and was removed from the injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite playing more snaps than Will Dissly through the first two games of the 2024-25 campaign, the latter has been more productive. Still, neither play will find a home in fantasy lineups for Week 3 due to their lack of statistical output. That will be even more true if Justin Herbert (ankle), who is questionable, isn't active.Source: Los Angeles Chargers
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) has been officially listed as questionable to play this Sunday in Week 3 on the road against the 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers. Herbert said on Friday that he suffered a high right-ankle sprain in the Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers, although he did return to practice on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday. High-ankle sprains can keep players out for multiple weeks, so although Herbert has a high tolerance for pain, he could seriously be in danger of sitting out this weekend, which would be really bad news for the Bolts offense as they look to go 3-0. If Herbert doesn't gain clearance to play, Easton Stick would likely be under center, and the Chargers would most likely lean even more on running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. A banged-up Herbert would be more of a low-end QB2 in fantasy if he's active on Sunday.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
1 month agoThe Los Angeles Chargers defense/special teams unit is a solid choice in Week 3 fantasy lineups when the Chargers face the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. The Bolts defensive unit put up 14 fantasy points in Week 1 and followed that up with 11 in Week 2. They've allowed just 13 points so far this season while recording six sacks, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. They've been a top-six fantasy defense both times and have that same upside this time in what is expected to be one of the lowest scoring games of the week. They're certainly worth starting and are still available on a lot of league's waiver wires.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker is a solid choice like usual for Week 3 fantasy lineups when the Chargers face the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dicker has put up 22 fantasy points through the first two weeks, making all five of his field goals and three of his four extra points. The missed extra point was the first of his NFL career. The Chargers-Steelers game is expected to be one of the lowest scoring games of the week, but with touchdowns likely hard to come by, the kicking game could play a big role in the final score. Dicker is a top-12 option in leagues that still start kickers.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston had a big game in Week 2, but he'll draw a much tougher challenge in a Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnston is currently the overall WR24 in fantasy, fueled largely by his two touchdown performance last week against the Carolina Panthers. He's been the clear WR1 on the Chargers offense and often the first read for quarterback Justin Herbert, but the underlying numbers haven't been pretty. Johnston is showing much better hands this season, but he's still just 78th in separation and 81st in route win rate, both out of just 92 qualifying receivers. He'll draw coverage from either Joey Porter Jr. or Donte Jackson this week, both of whom have been extremely stingy against opposing wide receivers.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) is not a good fantasy option for a Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Palmer missed practice on Wednesday and was working off to the side of the field on Thursday, leaving his status for Sunday's game as questionable at best. Even if he does play, Palmer will likely draw coverage from Joey Porter, Jr. Coming into the season, Palmer was expected to fill the WR1 role in the Los Angeles offense, but he has quickly fallen behind Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey in the first two games. Add to that the fact that this is clearly going to be a run-first offense, and it's hard to have a ton of faith in Palmer as a fantasy starter.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey has a good matchup in a Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. McConkey scored a touchdown in his NFL debut in Week 1 but followed that up with a quiet performance in Week 2 in which he scored just 3.6 fantasy points. This week, he'll likely run most of his routes against Beanie Bishop Jr., who has allowed a passer rating of 143.2 when targeted. Either Joshua Palmer (knee) or Quentin Johnston will be shadowed in coverage by Joey Porter Jr., so more throws could end up going McConkey's way. He's a WR3 with some upside, and with a definite boost in value in PPR leagues.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards is a touchdown-dependent fantasy option in a Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Edwards has put up two fairly similar games in terms of production so far this season, and is likely to do more of the same. He has not yet broken out for an explosive play nor has he forced a missed tackle, but the Chargers offensive line is providing him with plenty of room to run. He's played on 47% of the offensive snaps in the red zone, and he's always a threat to punch in a short touchdown at the goal line. Still, his value depends almost solely on finding the end zone, making him a risky FLEX play albeit one with some upside.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins is set for another strong performance in a Week 3 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dobbins is the overall fantasy RB4 through the first two weeks of the season, and several statistics show that it's not just a fluke. He ranks first in the NFL in explosive run rate and missed tackles forced per attempt. He's 12th in the league in yards after contact, and the Chargers offensive line has been excellent in opening up running lanes, with the Chargers offense tops in the league in yards before contact in the running game. The Steelers defense is solid over all, but has been just about average against running backs through the first two weeks of the season. Dobbins is a high-end RB2 with clear upside.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) is expected to play this week despite suffering an ankle injury near the end of a Week 2 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Herbert missed practice on Wednesday, but was back in there on Thursday and all signs point to him being able to take the field on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even assuming he plays without setbacks, he's no more than a QB2 option, leading a run-first offense against a tough Steelers defense. Herbert has all the talent of the top tier quarterbacks in the NFL, but the type of offense the Chargers run leave him well out of those rankings for fantasy football. He's just the QB27 so far through two weeks of games.Source: RotoBaller
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) is wearing a yellow jersey and is dressed for practice on Thursday after he was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday in the first practice of the week. Herbert's return to practice on Thursday is a good sign that he's trending in the right direction to play in Week 3 against the 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. The 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers but quickly returned to the contest. Barring a setback, it's likely that Herbert will be under center for the Bolts as a low-end QB2 play in fantasy this Sunday against a swarming Steelers defensive unit. If for some reason Herbert is unable to play, it would most likely be Easton Stick making the start, which would be a major downgrade for all of LA's offensive weapons in a tough matchup. UPDATE: Herbert was officially listed as a limited practice participant on Thursday.Source: Chargers.com - Eric Smith
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday leading up to the Week 3 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Herbert suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, but X-rays on his ankle came back negative. It's unclear whether or not Herbert is at real risk of missing Sunday's game in a battle between two undefeated teams, so fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status throughout the week. That said, Herbert is the QB26 on the year so far, and the Steelers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. He should be benched in single-QB formats whether he plays or not. If he's out, Easton Stick will get the start, and wide receivers Quentin Johnston, Joshua Palmer, and Ladd McConkey will have reduced fantasy ceilings and floors.Source: Ari Meirov -- 33rd Team
1 month agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston, a first-rounder in 2023, had a rocky first year in the NFL marred by drops. But through the first two weeks of his second season in the NFL, Johnston has flipped the script and led the Chargers with five catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers. He had two TDs all of last year, but he currently leads the Bolts in catches, receiving yards and yards per target. The 23-year-old's route-running this year is tighter and more deceptive, and his hands have improved markedly. Johnston ran post or go routes 35.5% of the time last year, but that rate has dropped to 21.4% this year, which has increased his chances to run after the catch on crossing routes. He has become a popular waiver-wire pickup after the first two weeks, especially with DJ Chark (hip) on Injured Reserve.Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper
1 month agoThe Athletic's Daniel Popper writes that Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) will be listed on Wednesday's injury report with an ankle injury. Herbert's practice status right now is to be determined, so fantasy managers will want to check back later for his official status. The 26-year-old signal-caller wasn't spotted at the portion of practice open to the media on Wednesday. His ankle injury is on the same side that he dealt with plantar fasciitis during training camp, although it doesn't appear to be related. Herbert injured his ankle in the Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers but eventually returned to the game. He is apparently feeling a lot better, but we won't know his status for Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers until later this week. Easton Stick would likely fill in for the Bolts under center if Herbert isn't cleared, which would obviously be a big downgrade for LA's offense.Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper
