The Cincinnati Reds have placed outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 7. In a corresponding move, outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe joined the active roster. Fraley has been dealing with a lingering calf injury over the past week. He was expected to return on Friday but was a late scratch to the starting nine. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as Fraley will likely not be sidelined for an extended period. Through his first 31 games of the season, Fraley has struggled at the plate, holding a .205/.319/.359 slash line with three doubles and three home runs. Under the hood, the 29-year-old has generated a low .232 xBA and a .359 xSLG. While he remains sidelined, Rece Hinds, Will Benson, and Connor Joe should cover right field.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Reds

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen will not be in the starting nine on Saturday when they continue a series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Jansen has not been given a start against a right-handed pitcher since April 27. This afternoon, the Rays will face Milwaukee right-hander Tobias Myers. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but it appears Jansen is beginning to fall into a platoon role behind the dish. As a result, Ben Rortvedt will get the starting nod and will bat in the nine-hole. Over his last nine games, Jansen has posted a .160/.344/.160 slash line with no extra-base hits. Given his drop in playing time, he should only be rostered in deep AL-only formats. This afternoon, Rortvedt is best to fade in DFS facing Myers, who enters this game holding a 3.65 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Spencer Horwitz (wrist) has moved his rehab assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis. Horwitz has been sidelined since spring training to repair an extensor tendon in his right thumb. Horwitz began his rehab assignment at Double-A and needed just five games to earn the call to Triple-A. Through his first eight rehab appearances, Horwitz has held a .143/.200/.214 slash line with two doubles with a 5:2 K:BB. Last season, Horwitz appeared in a career-high 97 games for the Toronto Blue Jays and posted a solid .265/.357/.433 slash line with 19 doubles and 12 home runs. When he does return to the majors, fantasy managers should expect Horwitz to be the everyday first baseman in Pittsburgh.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa (hamstring) has been cleared to participate in baseball activities and is expected to begin running the bases later this weekend. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since the start of the month with a right hamstring strain. However, given his current progress, fantasy managers should not expect Kiner-Falefa to be sidelined for an extended period. If the 30-year-old does not face any setbacks this weekend, he may not need to embark on a rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list. Through his first 30 games of the season, Kiner-Falefa has held a .280/.333/.330 slash line with six stolen bases. When he is cleared to return, he should be the everyday shortstop in Pittsburgh.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera and outfielder Jordan Walker are not in the starting lineup on Saturday when they continue a series against the Washington Nationals. Herrera returned from the injured list on Friday and went 1-for-4 with two RBI. However, he will get the day off, which will open a spot in the lineup for Pedro Pages to be behind the dish. Walker has started each of the previous three contests but has tallied just one hit and held a 5:2 K:BB over this stretch. Instead, Lars Nootbaar will shift to right field, which opens left field for Brendan Donovan. Fantasy managers should expect both Herrera and Walker to return to the lineup on Sunday. The Cardinals are worth targeting in DFS facing Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams, who has held a modest 5.86 ERA this season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Washington Nationals first baseman Josh Bell is not in the starting lineup on Saturday when they continue a series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Bell was dealing with a groin injury earlier in the week. He was able to start on Friday but went 0-for-3 at the plate with a strikeout. As a result, James Wood will shift to the DH spot, which opens left field for Alex Call. The veteran first baseman has had a slow start to the campaign. Through his first 32 contests, Bell has posted a modest .130/.219/.278 slash line with five home runs. Under the hood, the switch-hitter has generated a low .285 xwOBA and a .204 xBA, which are both well below the average marks. This afternoon, the Nationals are worth a look in DFS, facing St. Louis right-hander Andre Pallante, who enters this game holding a 4.75 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Buffalo Bills rookie fourth-round defensive tackle Deone Walker (back) is feeling great despite playing last year with a back injury, but the Bills are playing it safe and easing him into rookie minicamp. "I had a pars defect in my back," Walker said. "I didn't know about it until after the season, really until the combine. We didn't really know what it was, but I feel a 100% right now." While the former Kentucky product wasn't always on the field with his fellow rookie teammates, he said he got in a lot of drill work and was putting in the mental reps while learning the playbook. The 21-year-old is a beast of a human being at 6-foot-7, 331 pounds. He was much more productive for the Wildcats when he was fully healthy in 2023, and he's expected to begin his NFL career as more of a rotational interior defensive lineman in Buffalo.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: BuffaloBills.com - Alec White and Maddy Glab

The Washington Nationals have recalled right-handed pitching prospect Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Rochester. Brzykcy will replace Lucas Sims, who was released on Friday evening. The 25-year-old had a brief one-inning appearance in the majors earlier this season. Last summer, Brzykcy made his MLB debut but logged only five 2/3 innings of work. Across his first six 2/3 innings in the majors, Brzykcy has held a 13.50 ERA with a 2.25 WHIP. He has struck out five batters but has walked 20% of the batters he has faced. However, Brzykcy has been very productive at Triple-A, holding a stellar 1.88 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP across 14 1/3 innings of work. Given his previous struggles in the majors, fantasy managers should expect Brzykcy to have a low-leverage role in the bullpen.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Washington Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman/catcher Endy Rodriguez (finger) has shed his cast and has been cleared to begin playing catch. Rodriguez has been recovering from a laceration on his right index finger since April. It appears the 24-year-old has progressed well and can begin ramping up his baseball activity. Through his first 15 games of the campaign, Rodriguez held a .178/.260/.244 slash line with three doubles, two RBI, and a 12:5 K:BB. Under the hood, he generated a solid 45.5% hard-hit rate and was able to draw walks at a 10.0% rate. If he continues to progress well, Rodriguez could be cleared to embark on a rehab assignment before the end of the month. When he is cleared to return to Pittsburgh, fantasy managers should expect Rodriguez to compete for time at first base and as the No. 2 backstop behind Joey Bart.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Now that quarterback Derek Carr (shoulder) has announced his retirement, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport writes that it sets the stage for rookie second-round quarterback Tyler Shough to be the team's eventual starter in 2025. Shough's stock for his rookie campaign was already rising with Carr's availability in question for 2025 due to a shoulder injury, but now Carr is out of the picture completely. The 25-year-old Shough will be competing primarily with Spencer Rattler, who completed just 57% of his passes while throwing four touchdowns and five interceptions in his rookie season in 2024. Even if the Saints give Shough a little more time to develop and name Rattler the starter for Week 1, it seems likely that Shough will be starting games in the Big Easy sooner than later in 2025. Shough is old for a rookie and has plenty of experience, making him the current favorite over Rattler for QB1 duties.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Cincinnati Reds could place outfielder Jake Fraley (calf) on the 10-day injured list. Fraley was held out of action earlier in the week but was slated to return to the lineup on Friday. However, the outfielder was a late scratch due to this lingering calf injury. Following the game, manager Terry Francona noted an IL stint could be possible. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status over the weekend. If Fraley remains sidelined, the team will likely shift him to the injured list. Before his injury, Fraley was having a slow start to the young season, holding a .205/.319/.359 slash line with three doubles and three home runs. While he remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Will Benson, Rece Hinds, or the newly-acquired Connor Joe to cover right field.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that right-hander Brad Keller will serve as the opener in what will be a bullpen game on Saturday against the New York Mets at Citi Field. Counsell would not confirm whether right-handed pitching prospect Cade Horton will follow Keller as the bulk reliever. Keller probably won't last more than an inning or two in this one, so he's not a realistic fantasy streamer against a tough lineup on the road. The 29-year-old has appeared out of Chicago's bullpen 15 times so far this year and has a 3.78 ERA (2.21 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP with 18 strikeouts and six walks in 16 2/3 total innings pitched. Keller has gone two innings in relief just twice for the Cubs, including his first appearance of the year back on March 28. If Horton comes into the game after Keller exits, it will be for his major-league debut.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Watch Marquee - Taylor McGregor

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jesse Scholtens (elbow) made his first start since the 2023 season on Tuesday with High-A Winston-Salem to start his minor-league rehab assignment and gave up three earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two in three innings of work. Scholtens had Tommy John surgery and missed the entire 2024 season, but he's now working his way back and pitching in games again. It's possible that he'll be ready around the All-Star break, but even with the lowly White Sox, he won't be guaranteed a starting-rotation spot when he's ready to roll. The 31-year-old veteran worked as a swing man for the Pale Hose when he debuted in 2023 and wasn't very effective, sporting a 5.29 ERA (5.31 FIP), a 1.53 WHIP, one save, 58 strikeouts and 30 walks in 85 innings pitched over 26 outings (11 starts).--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

Chicago White Sox catcher Korey Lee (ankle) and infielder Gage Workman (hip) both started their minor-league rehab assignments with Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday. Lee went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk in his first game for Charlotte after missing the previous month due to a sprained left ankle. The 26-year-old backstop is working his way back, though, and could be back in the big leagues by the end of next week as long as he avoids any setbacks. However, with catching prospect Edgar Quero joining the big-league roster recently, Lee is unlikely to see as much playing time when he returns. The former 32nd overall pick in 2019 out of Cal Berkeley had gone 5-for-15 in the early going before getting hurt, but he's hit just .193 (93-for-482) with 13 homers and 45 RBI in 170 big-league games to this point in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Scott Merkin

Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (oblique) is playing catch, hitting batting practice in the cage and completing defensive drills on a daily basis, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Rogers began playing catch in late April and has now increased his baseball activities as he rehabs from a strained left oblique. Barring any setbacks once he starts a minor-league rehab assignment, the 30-year-old veteran backstop is expected to rejoin the big-league squad in late May. In just six games this year before his injury, Rogers had gone 4-for-18 with a triple, three runs scored, four walks and five strikeouts for the Tigers. Rogers had a career-high 21 homers and 49 RBI in 107 games in 2023 but finished with just 10 long balls last year. Like most catchers, he struggles to make contact and isn't going to hit for average, but he should play regularly while splitting time with Dillon Dingler when he returns.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLive - Evan Woodbery

Detroit Tigers outfielder Wenceel Perez (back) is completing defensive drills, playing catching, hitting batting practice in the cage and is progressing through a running progression, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Perez is finally doing baseball activities again after receiving two cortisone shots to help his lumbar-spine inflammation. The 25-year-old is currently on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be able to return to the Tigers until at least late May, but if he's able to start a minor-league rehab assignment soon, he could rejoin the big-league club when he's eligible. In his rookie season in 2024, Perez slashed .242/.300/.383 with nine home runs, 37 RBI, nine steals and 51 runs in 112 games played. He is versatile (can play middle infield) and has speed to spare, but he may not see enough playing time when he's ready to return to justify a roster spot in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLive - Evan Woodbery

Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows (arm) is playing catch daily and is also completing conditioning, defensive drills and his hitting progression daily, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. Meadows is recovering from right upper-arm inflammation and was only playing light catch in April. Because of the fact that he's on the 60-day injured list, the earliest the 25-year-old could return would be late May. It sounds like he has made progress since last month, but he will still need to go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment, so our best guess is that we won't see him make his 2025 season debut until sometime in June. Meadows struggled early in 2024 and then missed time with a hamstring injury, but he hit .296/.340/.500 with six homers and five steals in 47 regular-season games in the second half. When healthy, he could be the starting center fielder in Detroit against right-handed pitching.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLive - Evan Woodbery

Detroit Tigers right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow) started his minor-league rehab assignment with Low-A Lakeland on Thursday and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings his first time out with three hits allowed, no walks and two strikeouts. Gipson-Long was finally cleared to start pitching in real games again after facing live hitters in late April. The 27-year-old is recovering from right UCL reconstruction (Tommy John surgery) last April and also a left-hip labral repair in early July of 2024, so he still has a ways to go before he'll be an option for the Tigers in the big leagues. Gipson-Long made it to the big leagues in 2023 and looked strong, allowing seven runs (six earned) while walking eight and fanning 26 in four starts (20 innings). It's more than anyone expected for a pitcher that wasn't high on prospect lists entering that season. Gipson-Long could rejoin the minors around the All-Star break when he's cleared.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLive - Evan Woodbery

The Detroit Tigers optioned right-hander Keider Montero back to Triple-A Toledo on Friday after his spot start during the team's doubleheader in Colorado against the Rockies on Thursday. Montero was excellent against the last-place Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field in the second game of the twin bill, allowing just one earned run on five hits while walking three and striking out two in eight innings for his first win of 2025. The 24-year-old will go back to the farm for now, but he'll surely be back up in the big leagues when the Tigers need another starter, especially after that strong performance. The good outing lowered his ERA to 4.15 on the season and his WHIP to 1.48 WHIP through 21 2/3 innings and four starts. Montero has flashed some high-end potential through his first 120 innings after debuting in 2024, but he's also been very inconsistent with a below-average 18.2% strikeout rate.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

New York Mets right-hander Frankie Montas (lat) threw his fourth bullpen session on Friday, and his goal is to face live hitters by the end of next week, according to NorthJersey.com's Andrew Tredinnick. Montas was shut down from throwing for almost two months after he was diagnosed with a high-grade right-lat strain in mid-February at the start of spring training. The 32-year-old veteran restarted a throwing program in mid-April, though, and is slowly making progress towards his 2025 season debut with the Mets. The Dominican hurler is ahead of lefty Sean Manaea, who is ramping up from an oblique injury. Montas is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't expected to rejoin New York's starting rotation until early June, barring a setback. He made just one appearance in 2023 due to injury and was up and down while allowing a ton of hard contact with Milwaukee and Cincy a season ago.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NorthJersey.com - Andrew Tredinnick

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins was excellent on Friday, tossing six shutout innings while allowing five hits and no walks and striking out six batters. However, the appearance was squandered, as the Red Sox were unable to provide any run support, ultimately losing 2-1 in the 12th inning to the Royals. Dobbins has been good in his four starts so far, posting a 2.78 ERA (3.72 xFIP), 1.19 WHIP, and a 15.6 percent K-BB% over 22 2/3 innings. The righty's next start tentatively lines up with the Tigers, unless Walker Buehler (shoulder) can return in time for that contest. Detroit is averaging the fourth-most runs per game in the majors at 5.68, but they are also averaging 7.67 runs over the last three games, so it is an offense on a roll right now, and caution is warranted if Dobbins is able to get the nod.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN

New York Mets left-hander Sean Manaea (oblique) is up to throwing from 120 feet on flat ground and is set to play catch off the mound next, according to NorthJersey.com's Andrew Tredinnick. A strained right oblique has kept Manaea away from the big-league team so far in 2025, and he needed a platelet-rich plasma injection before restarting his throwing program in the middle of April. Now that the 33-year-old southpaw is getting close to throwing off a mound, he could be close to facing live hitters as he continues to build up his arm. Still, in a best-case scenario, Manaea most likely won't make his season debut until sometime in June, so fantasy managers stashing him must remain patient. A mechanical adjustment helped the former first-rounder have a career resurgence in his first year with the Mets in 2024, as he went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 184 K's and 63 walks in 32 regular-season starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NorthJersey.com - Andrew Tredinnick

Detroit Tigers outfield prospect Max Clark went 3-for-5 with a home run during their contest on Friday against High-A Lansing. Over his last nine contests, Clark has been swinging a hot bat, holding a stellar .395/.439/.500 slash line. During this stretch, he has held a 2:3 K:BB with a double and a home run. Through 26 total games this season, the No. 5-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com has held a strong .313/.452/.424 slash line with five doubles, two home runs, and two stolen bases. During his first look at High-A pitching during the 2024 season, Clark held a modest .264/.344/.421 line with 10 doubles and two long balls across 34 contests. Fantasy managers should expect the former third overall pick to be in the mix to earn a promotion to Double-A in the coming months.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

Houston Astros starting pitcher Hunter Brown tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings in Friday's 3-0 victory over the Reds, yielding two hits and four walks while striking out nine batters on the way to earning his sixth win of the season. It was his fourth consecutive game with nine K's, but his first non-quality start of the year since he didn't go six innings. Still, the six wins tie him for most in the majors, and the righty's seven other quality starts lead all pitchers. The 26-year-old now boasts a 1.48 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 24.3 percent K-BB%, making him fantasy's second-highest scoring pitcher, only behind Max Fried. The 6-foot-2 hurler will take on the Royals at home in his next start, a team that has been surging of late, but Brown faced them once already earlier this season and allowed one earned run while striking out nine batters, so you should keep penciling him into your season-long lineups.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
