7 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Alex McGough, a former USFL MVP who transitioned from quarterback this offseason, could use his pure athleticism to secure a roster spot prior to the 2024 campaign, head coach Matt LaFleur told the media. McGough spent all of 2023 operating as Green Bay's No. 3 quarterback. "He's a really athletic guy," LaFleur explained. "He spent a lot of time on the scout team running receiver routes, and he did such a great job. We feel like he's such a talented athlete, [so] why not give him a chance there? He's a smart guy, works his tail off. I think he can contribute [on special teams] as well. We felt like that might be his best chance here." These comments suggest that the Packers place great value on McGough's athleticism and don't want to risk losing someone like him, even if his impact is limited to special teams in 2024.Source: Zach Kruse

7 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring) has looked like a star at times through the first two seasons of his NFL career, but lingering hamstring issues caused the former second-round pick to miss eight games in 2023. The organization is focused on how to prevent flare-ups moving forward, and passing game coordinator Jason Vrable said Watson is "in a great place now" with his hamstring. The 24-year-old has plenty of big-play ability and has racked up 1,033 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns through his first 23 games, but he's become tough to trust in fantasy football due to his availability concerns. Hopefully, he really has turned a corner, because he could have at least WR2 upside catching passes from breakout quarterback Jordan Love. Green Bay is sure to be more careful in managing his reps in hopes of keeping him on the field.Source: Rob Demovksy
7 months agoIt sounds as though the Green Bay Packers have plans to integrate rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd into their offense right away in 2024. "I would like to get him out there as much as possible," offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said. The coordinator said that Lloyd doesn't bring the same type of versatility that AJ Dillon does, but the rookie brings a different speed element to their backfield, and the Packers want to get Lloyd into open spaces. The 23-year-old was taken in the third round (88th overall). Josh Jacobs is going to be the Packers' clear-cut backfield leader, but it sounds as though Lloyd is seriously going to challenge Dillon for complementary touches right away, although he'll need to secure the ball better than he did in college to stay on the field. Lloyd might not make much noise in redraft formats in 2024, but he's a fine target for dynasty/keeper managers.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
7 months agoGreen Bay Packers rookie safety Kitan Oladapo (toe) said he had surgery on his left big toe recently and is out for the team's offseason workouts. However, he expects to be ready for training camp this summer. Oladapo suffered a stress fracture doing drills on the turf at the NFL combine in February in Indianapolis and powered through more drills at his pro day despite being injured. Along with the 23-year-old, the Packers also took safeties Xavier McKinney and Anthony Johnson in this year's draft to help them shore up their secondary. Oladapo, who hails from Oregon State, will need to get healthy in a hurry if he wants to impress the coaching staff enough in training camp to secure a spot on the regular-season roster.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein
7 months agoAlcorn State running back Jarveon Howard has signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent, according to a source. Howard spent three years at Syracuse before transferring to Alcorn State in 2022 for a bigger role in the backfield. The 22-year-old ran for 2,042 yards and 19 yards in his two seasons at Alcorn State. He will now hope to impress Green Bay's coaching staff enough to get a shot to make the team this summer out of training camp. Right now, the Packers' running back depth chart consists of starter Josh Jacobs, rookie MarShawn Lloyd, AJ Dillon, Emanuel Wilson and Ellis Merriweather. Howard will be facing an uphill battle to make Green Bay's final roster, but he could stick around on their practice squad.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
7 months agoThe Green Bay Packers declined the fifth-year option for cornerback Eric Stokes on Thursday, according to a source. The 29th overall pick in 2021 out of Georgia, Stokes played well in his rookie season but has battled injuries the last two years. He will now be slated for free agency next spring and can make a case for a big payday if he can stay healthy in 2024. The 25-year-old played in 16 games (14 starts) as a rookie in 2021 and had a career-high 55 tackles (43 solo), an interception and 14 passes defended. However, he's played in just 12 games (11 starts) since then and has 26 solo tackles in that time. Stokes played in just three games last season. Despite his injuries the last two years, he's expected to be a starting cornerback for Green Bay in 2024 if he's healthy.Source: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo
7 months agoThe Green Bay Packers selected former USC running back MarShawn Lloyd with the 88th overall pick in this year's NFL draft, and The Athletic's Matt Schneidman writes that he could compete for the backup to new feature back Josh Jacobs in 2024. The Packers re-signed AJ Dillon this offseason, but he might not be a lock to make the final roster. The Athletic's Dane Brugler doesn't think Lloyd has the profile of a high-volume back, but he has the ability to spark an offense with his mix of patience, burst and promise as a pass-catcher. Green Bay may want to take some of the load off Jacobs -- in five seasons with the Raiders, Jacobs ranked second in the NFL in carries and rushing yards since 2019. Lloyd will at least compete with 2023 undrafted RB Emanuel Wilson for the No. 3 job.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
7 months agoThe Green Bay Packers selected USC running back MarShawn Lloyd with the 88th pick in the NFL draft. Lloyd is credited for having great acceleration and the ability to bounce outside the tackles. He averaged over seven yards per carry last season, which showcases his big-play ability. The 23-year-old ran for 820 yards and nine scores last season. Lloyd joins a running back room that just welcomed Josh Jacobs, which will limit his fantasy value early on, but he could grow into a part-time contributor over the course of his rookie season.Source: NFL.com
7 months agoThe Green Bay Packers selected offensive tackle Jordan Morgan from Arizona with the 25th overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft. Morgan started all 37 games at left tackle. He could move to guard if necessary but does possess the skills to make a smooth transition. The Packers added former Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs to improve on their 1,905 total rushing yards last season. Adding Morgan will hopefully provide a boost to those numbers and protect Jordan Love's blind side.Source: NFL.com
7 months agoFree-agent offensive tackle Andre Dillard signed with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. The 28-year-old spent last season with the Tennessee Titans after four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft struggled mightily with Tennessee, giving up a league-high 12 sacks despite playing the 65th most snaps among tackles (562). Either way, Dillard has exceptional athleticism from the tackle spot, so he'll get another chance to prove he belongs in the league with a third team.Source: Ari Meirov -- 33rd Team
7 months agoThe Green Bay Packers re-signed exclusive-rights free-agent running back Emanuel Wilson to an undisclosed deal on Monday. Wilson entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Fort Valley State in 2023 with the Packers and had 14 carries for 85 yards and caught four of five targets for 23 additional yards in seven regular-season games (zero starts) in his rookie campaign. Barring injuries to the team's running back room, the 24-year-old should be in line for a similar depth role behind backs Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon in 2024, making him pretty useless to begin the year in fantasy circles. Wilson is currently the team's No. 3 RB, but that could change, depending on what the Packers do at the position in the upcoming NFL draft.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
7 months agoAccording to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is anticipated to earn a new contract. Not only that, his new deal is expected to make him one of the NFL's highest-paid signal-callers. Of course, there are details both sides need to work out, although more intense discussions may not come until after the 2024 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old had some rough showings during the 2023-24 campaign. However, he still ended the year by throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Love also led the Packers to the playoffs, with the team losing to the 49ers by three points during the NFC Divisional Round. While Green Bay's offense will look somewhat different come Week 1, Love easily has a top-10 fantasy upside, and it's also possible he will enter the elite quarterback conversation soon, assuming he hasn't already.Source: Jeremy Fowler
8 months agoThe Athletic's Bruce Feldman predicts the Green Bay Packers to take Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft. Feldman has the Packers trading up one spot from 25th overall with the Dallas Cowboys to get Latham, who stands at 6-foot-6 and 342 pounds with 35 1/8-inch arms and 11-inch hands. He's a giant specimen with a lot of experience and seasoning. Latham started the last 27 games for Alabama at right tackle but also could slide inside at the next level, if needed. "He's got some serious knock-back power with explosive hips and those meat hooks. He knows how to finish. I think he's a beast at right tackle," one coach said.Source: The Athletic - Bruce Feldman
