The 28-year-old got his first tally of the evening off a re-direct off Alex Pietrangelo's shot from the point. In the final minute, Barbashev would score the empty-netter to seal the victory. Through the first eight games of the season, Barbashev has tallied an impressive seven goals and four assists. In addition, he has registered 16 shots, 15 hits, and five blocks with +5 rating. Fantasy managers should continue to keep Barbashev in their lineup and target him in DFS contests as he is enjoying a productive start to the season playing alongside Jack Eichel and Mark Stone on the top line.Source: NHL.com
4 weeks agoNashville Predators right wing Gustav Nyquist tallied an assist and a shorthanded goal in their victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday evening. Nyquist tallied the primary assist on Filip Forsberg's goal in the second frame which got Nashville on the board. Later in the frame, Nyquist would tie the game with a shorthanded goal off a wrist shot from the slot. The 35-year-old is now carrying a three-game point streak after being held off the scoresheet during the first four games of the season. Nyquist should continue to find scoring opportunities and should remain a solid point producer playing on the top line alongside Filip Forsberg and Ryan O'Reilly.Source: NHL.com
4 weeks agoNew York Islanders center Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal to power the New York Islanders over their division rival, New Jersey Devils on Friday evening. Horvat was held off the scoresheet through regulation but was able to play the hero in overtime as he beat Jake Allen off a one-timer from the slot. Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock tallied the assists. This was Horvat's third goal of the season and fourth point. The 29-year-old has registered at least three shots in all but two games. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Horvat to play on the top line and top power-play unit and have prime scoring opportunities on a daily basis.Source: NHL.com
4 weeks agoPittsburgh Penguins rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist stopped 46 out of the 50 shots he faced on Friday evening in their loss to the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers dominated play all evening and kept the 22-year-old netminder quite busy. Leon Draisaitl was able to break free in the second period and scored the eventual game-winner. With Tristian Jarry's early season struggles, Joel Blomqvist has remained on the NHL roster and has continued to impress. Through his first five games (four starts) Blomqvist holds a .911 SV% and 3.34 GAA, playing behind one of the worst defensive units in the sport. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should consider adding the former second-round pick as he may continue to remain on the NHL roster throughout the early part of the season.Source: NHL.com
4 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard tallied a goal and an assist in their victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday evening. Bouchard tallied the secondary assist on Leon Draisaitl's goal which opening up the scoring in the second frame. Later in the period, Bouchard would score his second goal of the campaign off a snap shot from the blue line to double their lead. In addition, the 25-year-old tallied three blocks with a +2 rating. After setting a career-high in points last season (82), the defenseman has gotten off to a slow start this year as has tallied just four points through eight games. However, given his role on the top pairing and power-play unit, fantasy managers should continue to lock Bouchard in their lineup on a daily basis. Source: NHL.com
4 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner posted a 27-save shutout on Friday evening against the Pittsburgh Penguins. This was a great bounce back performance for not only Skinner, but the Oilers as well. Through his first five starts of the season, the 25-year-old allowed at least three goals in each game with a high of five in the season opener. Fantasy managers should expect Skinner to have plenty of opportunities to pick up a win given how potent the Edmonton offense can be. Last season, Skinner set a career-high with 36 wins and a 2.62 GAA and .905 SV%. Skinner should be expected to return to the starting crease on Sunday when the Oilers travel to Detroit.Source: NHL.com

The Swedish veteran has registered a good .914 save percentage with his new team. 4 weeks agoOttawa Senators center Shane Pinto (undisclosed) will miss Friday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Cole Reinhardt will make his season debut on the fourth line. He has been in excellent form in the AHL this campaign, with five points (two goals, three assists) in three games.Source: Bruce Garrioch
4 weeks agoMinnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman (upper body, illness) will be absent for at least two more games. Hartman has returned home ahead of the team's final two stops on its seven-game road trip. The team faces Philadelphia on Saturday before traveling to Pittsburgh to kick off the new week. Hartman has already been out for three games with an upper-body injury, and he's also been under the weather lately. During Hartman's absence, Marcus Foligno has hopped on the second power-play unit but hasn't been effective in the role. Marat Khusnutdinov looks set to continue as the Wild's third-line center.Source: Michael Russo
4 weeks agoPhiladelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York (undisclosed) could be out of action for the first time this season on Saturday against Minnesota. York missed Friday's practice, and Flyers head coach John Tortorella noted that he's uncertain about York's status for Saturday's game. York has been one of the better performers on a struggling team. Through seven outings, the 23-year-old has recorded three points (two goals, one assist) with nine shots, 10 blocks, and seven hits. Erik Johnson is poised to rejoin the lineup if York can't play. Meanwhile, Egor Zamula and Nick Seeler will get larger roles on the blue line. Saturday's matchup promises to be very difficult for the Flyers defense as they welcome the red-hot Kirill Kaprizov to town.Source: Jordan Hall
4 weeks agoPhiladelphia Flyers winger Travis Konecny (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day after missing Friday's practice. He's in danger of missing his first game of the season on Saturday versus Minnesota. Konecny has registered back-to-back 30-goal campaigns and is among Philadelphia's biggest scoring threats, but the 2024-25 hasn't started well for him. With seven games played, Konecny is tied for the league-worst plus/minus rating with minus-10 and boasts only four points (three goals, one assist). Has hasn't yet scored any points during even-strength play. Bobby Brink should re-enter the lineup on Saturday, while Joel Farabee could earn a promotion to the top six if Konecny is out.Source: Jamey Baskow
4 weeks agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere has landed a seven-year, $52.15 million extension. The first pick of the 2020 draft will now be tied with the team through the 2031-32 season. His new contract will have a $7.45 million cap hit. Lafreniere got handsomely rewarded for a breakout campaign. After mostly struggling through his first few years in the league, he posted 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games last season. Lafreniere then went on to play a key role in the playoffs, amassing 14 points (eight goals) in 16 games. The 23-year-old has maintained the momentum in 2024-25, averaging a point per game through the first seven games, with four goals and three assists to his name.Source: ESPN
4 weeks agoVegas Golden Knights center William Karlsson (undisclosed) appears ready to make his season debut. He will be sitting out another game on Friday versus Ottawa but is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday's matchup against San Jose. Karlsson's return will be a further boost for a Vegas team that has started the season well. The Swedish centerman is projected to line up on the third line. However, he should get usage on the power play straight away, and there aren't much better matchups around than facing the 0-6-2 Sharks, who are allowing 3.88 goals per game with a 75.7 percent penalty kill.Source: Danny Webster
4 weeks agoSeattle Kraken center Matty Beniers hit top gear against the Jets on Thursday, recording two goals and an assist in a 4-3 overtime loss.
