3 weeks agoVegas Golden Knights left wing Ivan Barbashev (personal) will return to the starting lineup on Thursday to face the Columbus Blue Jackets. Barbashev was unable to suit up during their last contest on Tuesday evening. Fantasy managers should expect the 29-year-old to return to his typical role in the bottom-six of the Vegas offense. Before his minor absence, Barbashev tallied six points (three goals) over his last five contests. During this span, he tallied eight shots on goal with seven hits and two blocked shots. Barbashev has occasionally seen time on the top unit alongside Jack Eichel throughout the season but has recently begun to shift to the bottom-six. As a result, he is a high-risk play in DFS competitions as he may not see a consistent amount of ice time.Source: Mark Scheig
3 weeks agoNew York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin will get the starting nod on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild. Shesterkin allowed two goals on 24 shots during his last outing against the Winnipeg Jets. He will have another tough matchup against the Minnesota Wild who are also in the Western Conference playoff picture. Before his loss on Tuesday, Shesterkin held a 3-1-2 record over his last six contests with a .921 save percentage and a 2.32 GAA. During this span, he allowed one goal or less in two games but allowed three or more in the other four. Through 47 total games this season, the 29-year-old has had a disappointing season to his standard as he sits with a modest 21-22-4, a 2.87 GAA, and a .905 save percentage. He is a solid play in DFS as he still carries high upside despite a tough matchup.Source: Jessi Pierce
3 weeks agoWinnipeg Jets defenseman Neal Pionk (undisclosed) missed his second-straight practice on Thursday morning. As a result, the 29-year-old is in danger of missing Friday's contest against the Dallas Stars. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during Friday's morning skate as he could be a game-time decision. Over his last six contests, Pionk has been held off the scoresheet and logged just nine shots on goal with six blocks. Before this offensive slump, Pionk tallied five points (two goals) over eight games while averaging 2.65 shots on goal per game. Through 66 total games this season, Pionk has scored nine goals and added 28 helpers. Fantasy managers should expect Colin Miller to enter the starting lineup and for Luke Schenn to have an uptick in ice time.Source: Michael Clinton
3 weeks agoWinnipeg Jets left wing Nikolaj Ehlers (undisclosed) was not present during Thursday's practice. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Friday evening against the Dallas Stars. The 29-year-old was also not available to practice on Wednesday, which puts his availability in doubt. Before this injury, Ehlers tallied six points (three goals) over his last five contests. Through 57 total contests this season, the former ninth-overall selection has found the back of the net 21 times and added 36 helpers. Ehlers has tallied 21 of his points on the power-play and added 31 hits, 25 blocks, and 148 shots on goal. If the 29-year-old were to be held out of action on Friday evening, fantasy managers should expect Nino Niederreiter to move up to the second forward line.Source: Michael Clinton
3 weeks agoCarolina Hurricanes right wing Andrei Svechnikov (undisclosed) is not expected to return to the lineup on Friday evening when the Hurricanes face the Detroit Red Wings. Svechnikov was unable to play during their previous contest on Tuesday and is in line to miss his second-straight contest. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but given this update, they should expect Jackson Blake to continue to be deployed on the top forward line. Before his injury, the 24-year-old was held off the scoresheet in his last four contests. However, prior to this slump, Svechnikov tallied nine points (three goals) over his previous eight games. As a result, fantasy managers should view Blake as a viable streaming option and top play in DFS as he will be deployed on the top forward unit facing a weak Detroit defense.Source: Walt Ruff
3 weeks agoTampa Bay Lightning right wing Nikita Kucherov (illness) is a game-time decision for Thursday's contest against the Philadelphia Flyers. Kucherov exited their previous contest on Tuesday due to this illness and could be a danger of missing this evening's contest. He was also not present during Thursday's morning skate, which suggests he may face an uphill battle to be cleared. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to puck drop. Before Tuesday's contest, Kucherov tallied an impressive 13 points (three goals) over his last 10 contests. During this span, he tallied 27 shots on goal with a +5 rating. If Kucherov were to sit out this evening, fantasy managers should expect Oliver Bjorkstrand to move up to the second offensive line.Source: Gabby Shirley
3 weeks agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour found the back of the net twice and added two helpers during their 5-4 overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Montour scored his first goal in the opening frame. In the third period, Montour would add two helpers, both of them coming on the power-play. In overtime, Montour would put his name in the record books as he scored four seconds into the period, which is the fastest mark in NHL history. Entering Wednesday, Montour tallied an impressive five points (three goals) over his last seven contests. During this span, he tallied 22 shots on goal with seven hits and four blocked shots on goal. Through 65 total games this season, the 30-year-old has tallied 36 points. He will look to continue his offensive surge on Friday against the Utah Hockey Club.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoUtah Hockey Club right wing Dylan Guenther scored the game-winner during their victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday evening. Guenther would tally the primary assist on Alexander Kerfoot's goal in the second frame. In the final period, Guenther would find the back of the net on the power-play which broke the stalemate and served as the game-winner. Since returning to action on February 4, Guenther has tallied 14 points (in 13 games) with eight goals and six shots. He has scored four of his goals on the power-play and averaged an impressive 4.7 shots on goal per game. Before this surge, he tallied just two points over his last eight. Guenther is a solid option in standard formats and DFS as he will look to remain productive on Friday evening when they travel to Seattle to face the Kraken.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoVancouver Canucks center Elias Pettersson tallied a goal and assist during their shootout victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday evening. In the opening frame, Pettersson would tally the secondary assist on Pius Suter's power-play goal. Later in the third, Pettersson would find the back of the net which tied the game and eventually forced overtime. The 26-year-old would also be successful on his shootout attempt. This outing extended his point streak to two games. Over his last four, Pettersson has tallied four points (three goals) while tallying nine shots with five blocks. However, before this recent stretch, Pettersson went 15 games without scoring a goal. He only tallied five helpers during this goal drought and held a -3 rating. He is worth monitoring in DFS as he appears to be turning the corner. He will look to stay hot on Saturday evening in a favorable matchup against the Blackhawks.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoDetroit Red Wings right wing Patrick Kane tallied five points in their 7-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday evening. Kane was busy in the opening frame as he dished out two helpers (one primary) before finding the back of the net on the power-play. Later in the third period, Kane scored his second goal in the contest, once again on the power-play, and added another secondary assist. He held a +3 rating in this contest with five total shots and on block. Over his last 10 contests entering Wednesday, the 26-year-old has been productive tallying 10 points (four goals) over this span, with six of them coming on the man advantage. Kane remains a solid pick in DFS on Friday evening given his recent surge despite facing a tough Carolina defense.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoVancouver Canucks rookie defenseman Elias Pettersson (upper body) was unable to finish Wednesday's contest against the Calgary Flames. The 21-year-old defenseman sustained this injury in the opening frame. He logged just over four minutes of ice time prior to exiting. Fantasy managers should monitor his status before their next contest on Saturday evening against the Chicago Blackhawks. Entering Wednesday's game, the third-round pick tallied one point (an assist) over his last four games while logging five hits and five blocked shots. Through his first 15 NHL contests, Pettersson has tallied just two points (both helpers) while adding 12 shots, 20 hits, and 11 blocks. If he were to miss time, the Canucks may have to promote a defenseman from their AHL affiliate.Source: Vancouver Canucks
3 weeks agoBuffalo Sabres defenseman Jacob Bryson (upper body) exited Wednesday's contest early. Bryson took a hard hit in the third period and left the game shortly after. Before the injury, the 27-year-old logged just over 16 minutes of ice time. He tallied two shots, two blocked shots and a +1 rating. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Saturday against the Vegas Golden Knights. If the former fourth-round selection were to sit out, Jacob Bernard-Docker could enter the lineup. Through 40 games this season, Bryson has tallied just six points (all helpers) while holding a -3 rating and added 43 blocked shots. Given his low ice time and minimal offensive upside, he does not carry much fantasy value.Source: Lance Lysowski
3 weeks agoCalgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund (upper body) will not be able to complete Wednesday's contest against the Vancouver Canucks. After logging only five shifts and 2:58 of ice time, Backlund exited the game due to an upper-body injury, and the team has ruled him out for the rest of the night. Backlund had a chance to post his first three-game point streak of the season on Wednesday. He entered the action boasting 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 63 games for the campaign. Adam Klapka will likely enter the lineup if Backlund needs to take time off the heal and can't play on Friday against the Colorado Avalanche. Klapka's role with the Flames has been very limited, and he doesn't offer anything for fantasy managers.Source: Calgary Flames
3 weeks agoSeattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord will start in Wednesday's clash against the Montreal Canadiens. The 28-year-old will look to end a three-game losing streak, having dropped consecutive decisions against Minnesota, Nashville, and Washington while giving up 11 goals. The poor spell has dropped his record to 21-18-3. Daccord has registered a 2.65 goals-against average with a .911 save percentage and one shutout. Montreal has been on a heater lately, but Daccord is expected to return to winning ways on Wednesday, as the oddsmakers have listed Seattle as a -154 favorite.Source: Emerald City Hockey
3 weeks agoMontreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine (illness) will re-enter the lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken. He returns to action after missing two games due to an illness, replacing Joel Armia (upper body) in the lineup. Laine's fantasy stock had been trending down recently, as he has averaged only 11:35 of ice time this month. The Finnish forward has finished pointless in 10 of his last 14 appearances. For the season, Laine has managed 14 goals and 24 points in 34 outings.Source: Renaud Lavoie
