Spencer Strider Expected To Throw 90 Pitches In Thursday's Start
4 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider (elbow) is expected to get his pitch count up to around 90 in Thursday's rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett. The 26-year-old has looked dominant in two rehab starts to this point, racking up 14 strikeouts and yielding just two hits in eight and one-third innings pitched. Thursday's start is anticipated to be the final tune-up before the Braves activate him off the injured list for his 2025 MLB debut. Seemingly fully recovered from the internal brace procedure he underwent last year, fantasy managers should have confidence slotting the 2023 All-Star into their lineups. Assuming all goes well, his first start for the Braves could come against the Blue Jays in Toronto next week.Source: David O'Brien
Francisco Alvarez Takes On-Field Batting Practice Tuesday Afternoon
4 days agoNew York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (hand) is taking batting practice on the field in New York on Tuesday as the team gets ready to go up against the Marlins. It is the first time the backstop has taken batting practice on the field since he had surgery on his left hand to fix a broken hamate bone. There isn't a clear timeframe for when he'll make his season debut, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. The Venezuelan is considered a top fantasy catcher when healthy, but injuries also limited him to 100 games in 2024 as well. Luis Torrens and Hayden Senger are handling catching duties for now, and it is Senger who will get the start on Tuesday versus the Marlins' RHP Connor Gillispie. UPDATE: Alvarez will start a minor-league rehab assignment in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.Source: Anthony DiComo
Andrew Benintendi Not In Tuesday's Lineup After Sunday's Early Exit
4 days agoChicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (groin) is not in Tuesday's lineup for a road matchup with the Guardians. The 30-year-old exited Sunday's contest with an adductor injury and is apparently still not ready to go even after the team's off day on Monday. The former All-Star had a solid start to the season, going 9-for-31 (.290) with a pair of home runs, six RBI, and five runs scored through nine games. For now, consider him day-to-day. Brooks Baldwin will get the start in left field for Chicago and bat eighth. The 24-year-old is 7-for-25 (.280) thus far with a home run and five RBI. With temps near freezing in Cleveland and an implied run total of less than three for the Sox, Baldwin is probably an avoid in both season-long and DFS today. UPDATE: Manager Will Venable said that Benintendi doesn't feel as good as the team had thought, so he will get scans done on Tuesday afternoon.Source: Chicago White Sox
Hunter Cranton Sidelined With Concussion
4 days agoSeattle Mariners pitching prospect Hunter Cranton (concussion) opened the minor league season on the injured list due to a concussion. Cranton suffered this injury during a Cactus League game after being struck by a comebacker. While the 24-year-old has been able to slowly start increasing his workload, he is still experiencing concussion symptoms. Cranton joined the Seattle organization last season with a third-round pick from Kansas. He spent time at Low-A with the Modesto Nuts. Across eight 1/3 innings of work out of the bullpen, the 24-year-old posted a 3.24 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. He held a 4:14 BB:K and did not allow a home run. When he returns to action, he could open the campaign at High-A.Source: MiLB.com
Ryan Lasko Hits Seven-Day Injured List
4 days agoThe Athletics have placed outfield prospect Ryan Lasko (undisclosed) on the 7-day injured list at High-A. The Athletics did not specify when Lasko sustained this injury. The Athletics drafted the 22-year-old in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Last summer, Lasko spent most of his time at Low-A before moving up to High-A. With Low-A Stockton, the Rutgers product posted a .225/.359/.322 slash line with 19 doubles and four home runs. He did most of his damage on the basepaths, swiping 20 bags. Then at High-A, Lasko held a .245/.341/.342 line with seven doubles and 13 stolen bases across 41 contests. When he returns to action, fantasy managers should expect Lasko to open the 2025 campaign with High-A Lunsing. He could push for a mid-season Double-A debut.Source: MLB.com
Francis Pena Headed To Extended Spring Training
4 days agoSan Diego Padres pitching prospect Francis Pena (undisclosed) will participate in extended spring training. The team did not specify when Pena sustained this injury. The right-hander will now be built up more slowly in extended camp before making his regular-season debut. Last season, the 24-year-old opened the campaign at the High-A level and was able to progress through Triple-A. Through 21 innings at High-A, Pena held a near-perfect 0.86 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP. At Double-A, continued to perform well, posting a strong 2.05 ERA with a 0.87 WHIP across 26 1/3 innings of work. However, during his first brief 15 2/3 innings of work at the Triple-A level, Pena took a step back, holding a 5.17 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP. When he is cleared to return, he will likely open the season with Triple-A El Paso.Source: MLB.com
Matt Vierling Cleared To Start Throwing Program
4 days agoDetroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Matt Vierling (shoulder) is hitting batting practice, completing defensive drills and doing conditioning on a daily basis and has also been cleared to start a return to play throwing program, according to MLive's Evan Woodbery. A right-shoulder strain that Vierling suffered in spring training landed him on the injured list to begin the 2025 regular season, but he's making good progress and may be able to return to make his season debut at the end of April, barring any setbacks. However, with no timetable and the fact that he still needs to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, it's probably more likely we won't see him back in Detroit until early May. Given all of the injuries to Detroit's outfielders, Vierling will probably be in line for everyday playing time in the outfield when he's ready to return.Source: MLive - Evan Woodbery
C.J. Culpepper Hits Injured List, Having Trouble Increasing Workload
4 days agoThe Minnesota Twins have placed right-handed pitching prospect C.J. Culpepper (undisclosed) on the 7-day injured list at Double-A. The right-hander has had a hard time increasing his workload during camp and is behind schedule. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may not be sidelined for too long in the season. Last summer, Culpepper opened the season with High-A Cedar Rapids and was then promoted to Double-A. Across 37 1/3 innings at High-A, Culpepper posted a strong 2.89 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP. He held an 11:43 BB:K and allowed just one home run. Through his first taste of Double-A, the 23-year-old took a step back as he posted a much higher 4.71 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. When Culpepper returns to action, he will need to improve at Double-A before reaching Triple-A St. Paul.Source: MLB.com
Bryce Eldridge Placed On Double-A Injured List
4 days agoThe San Francisco Giants have placed first base prospect Bryce Eldridge (wrist) on the Double-A 7-day injured list. The 20-year-old sustained this injury during spring training and will now miss the start of the Double-A regular season. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he may not miss too much time, since he was only placed on the 7-day injured list. Eldridge is considered the top prospect in the San Francisco system and the No. 24-best in the sport. Last season, the 20-year-old opened the campaign at Low-A and was able to reach Triple-A by the final month. Across 108 games between Low-A, High-A, and Double-A, Eldridge held a strong .293/.376/.534 slash line. Through his brief eight-game taste of Triple-A, he tallied seven hits. The former 16th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft should push for a late-season MLB debut.Source: MiLB.com

Jake Rogers Scratched With Oblique Tightness
4 days agoDetroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (oblique) has been scratched from Tuesday's starting lineup against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park due to left-oblique tightness, according to The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen. Dillon Dingler will take over behind the plate to catch left-hander Tarik Skubal while batting seventh against Yankees right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Rogers came into Tuesday's game hitting .222 (4-for-18) with a triple, four walks and five strikeouts in his first six games of the 2025 season. Dingler is the only other catcher on Detroit's big-league roster, so there's a good chance we'll see Rogers land on the injured list o that the Tigers aren't short-handed at the position. Dingler has gone 6-for-19 with a homer, triple and six RBI in his first six games of the season. He has never faced Carrasco in his two MLB seasons.Source: The Athletic - Cody Stavenhagen

Royce Lewis Weeks Away From Starting Rehab Assignment
4 days agoAlthough Minnesota Twins third baseman Royce Lewis (hamstring) was cleared last weekend to start a running progression, the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Phil Miller reports that Lewis is around three weeks from being cleared to start a minor-league rehab assignment. "Any time they let me do something more, it's always pretty good," said Lewis. "I'll probably run three days in a row, take a break, then try to get on the bases. It's a long progression," Lewis said. The 25-year-old is feeling better since straining his left hamstring in spring training on March 16, but even if he avoids setbacks as he rehabs, it doesn't look like he'll be making his 2025 season debut until sometime in May. Lewis has plenty of power at the hot corner, but he continues to be set back by injuries. Jose Miranda and Willi Castro will continue to split time at third in Minnesota until Lewis is able to return.Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Phil Miller
David Peterson Lined Up To Start On Saturday
4 days agoThe New York Mets have left-hander David Peterson (illness) lined up to make his next start this Saturday against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. Peterson wasn't feeling great in his last start on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he allowed an earned run on three hits while walking five and striking out three for a no-decision in 4 2/3 innings of work. The 29-year-old southpaw should be feeling much better by Saturday and will have a great matchup against the A's on the road. Peterson had a quality start and his first win of the season in his first outing of the year on March 31 against the division-rival Miami Marlins, allowing two earned runs on five hits (two solo homers) while walking three and striking out nine. Fantasy managers will be hoping for something similar in his third outing this weekend.Source: MLB.com
