Marcell Ozuna Gets Base Knock Against Phillies
4 days agoAtlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored in his team's 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. The veteran also walked and struck out once. It's taking Ozuna a bit to get going in 2025, as he's batting just .241 with two extra-base hits (one double, one homer) across his first 29 at-bats -- scoring seven runs and driving in five. Still, it's worth noting that he's walking 32.6% of the time, notching at least one base on balls in all but two of his appearances. The exit velocity numbers look good for the 34-year-old, as his 93.2 MPH exceeds his 2024 average of 92.1. It isn't time to panic just yet. Ozuna should begin to heat up along with the weather.Source: ESPN
Emilio Pagan Locks Down Save Chance
4 days agoCincinnati Reds pitcher Emilio Pagan recorded his second save in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. He did not allow a hit or a free pass and needed just seven pitches (six strikes) to close out their National League opponents. Pagan is now 2-for-2 on save chances with three strikeouts and a 0.40 WHIP over his first five appearances -- allowing a single hit and no runs in five innings. Teammate Tony Santillan has also picked up a save in the early going, but it appears Pagan will get most of the opportunities for now. It's also worth mentioning that fellow bullpen arm Graham Ashcraft could eventually be in line for some save chances. He has yet to allow a run in his 5.1 innings and was rumored to be working his way toward high-leverage situations late last month.Source: ESPN
Cooper Pratt Hits First Double-A Home Run
4 days agoMilwaukee Brewers infield prospect Cooper Pratt went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base during Tuesday's contest. This was Pratt's first round-tripper and stolen base at the Double-A level. Through his first three games at Double-A, Pratt went 2-for-12 with no extra base hits. However, on Tuesday, he was able to post his first multi-hit game at the level. Last summer, Pratt spent most of his time with Low-A before moving up to High-A late in the season. The former sixth-round selection held a strong .295/.394/.395 line with Low-A but saw his production decline with High-A, as he held a .221/.258/.442 line. However, the team still opted for Pratt to open the campaign at the Double-A level. If he continues to perform well, he could push for a second-half Triple-A debut.Source: MiLB.com
Adam Mazur Earns First Victory Of Triple-A Regular Season
4 days agoMiami Marlins pitching prospect Adam Mazur tossed five shutout innings on Tuesday en route to earning his first victory of the campaign. He allowed just three hits and a walk. He struck out five batters. This was a nice bounce-back outing for Mazur as he allowed two runs and two hits across five innings in his start of the regular season. The 23-year-old made his MLB debut last summer with the San Diego Padres and held a 7.49 ERA with a 1.81 WHIP across 33 2/3 innings of work. Across this stint, he struggled to control his pitches as he served up 21 free passes. He struggled at the Triple-A level last summer as well, posting a 6.20 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression with Jacksonville, as he could be in the mix to return to the majors later in this summer.Source: MiLB.com
Noah Cameron Strikes Out Five Across Six Shutout Frames
4 days agoKansas City Royals pitching prospect Noah Cameron tossed six shutout frames en route to picking up his second victory of the campaign on Tuesday evening over St. Paul. Cameron allowed just two hits and one free pass while striking out five. In his first start of the season, Cameron logged five innings of two-run ball (one earned) with a 3:6 BB:K. The 25-year-old was in the mix to earn a spot on the MLB roster during camp but eventually fell short in the competition. However, given his strong start to the Triple-A regular season, the southpaw could be in the mix for an early MLB debut. Last summer, Cameron logged 54 1/3 innings with Triple-A Omaha and held a 2.23 ERA with a 1.01 WHIP. Across this stint, he held a strong 11:62 BB:K. If he continues to perform well, he could enter stash territory.Source: MiLB.com
Cole Fontenelle Hits For The Cycle
4 days agoLos Angeles Angels infield prospect Cole Fontenelle hit for the cycle on Tuesday evening during their victory over the Knoxville Smokies. Fontenelle scored two runs in this contest but only tallied one RBI, which was on his solo shot. This was a nice breakout game for Fontenelle as he tallied just one hit during the first two games of the Double-A regular season. Last season, Fontenelle was limited to just 22 games of action at Double-A due to a fractured fibula. During that stint, he posted a .278/.404/.417 slash line. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production at Double-A as the Angels will likely keep him at this level for the foreseeable future given his injury history. MLB Pipeline considers him the No. 23 prospect in the Angels system. If he continues to produce well, he should earn a late-season taste of Triple-A.Source: MiLB.com
Shane Smith Tosses Six Shutout Frames On Tuesday
4 days agoChicago White Sox pitching prospect Shane Smith tossed six shutout innings during his second career MLB start on Tuesday afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians. He allowed just two hits and held a strong 1:6 BB:K. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but his bid was spoiled by third baseman Jose Ramirez. In Smith's first outing of the season on April 1, he tossed five 2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Minnesota Twins. In that outing, he struck out just three batters and served up four free passes. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development, but he appears to be taking consistent steps forward. Smith is lined up to face the Boston Red Sox in his next start. Given his strong showing on Tuesday, he is worth a look in deeper 15+ team formats.Source: MLB.com
Chase Davis Launches Two Home Runs On Tuesday
4 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Chase Davis went 3-for-5 with two home runs and a double during Tuesday's contest. He tallied five RBI and scored three times. Davis launched his first long ball in the third frame with a solo shot. Later in the fifth, he would hit a two-run blast. After starting the Double-A regular season going 0-for-4, Davis has tallied at least one hit in each of the past three games. The former 21st overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft spent most of the 2024 campaign split between Low-A and High-A. At the end of the summer, he received a brief eight-game state of Double-A but held a modest .250/.323/.429 slash line. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression at Double-A, as he could be in the mix for a mid-season promotion to Triple-A if he continues this production.Source: MiLB.com
Kenley Jansen Picks Up Third Save On Tuesday
5 days agoLos Angeles Angels right-hander Kenley Jansen tossed a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Jansen made things interesting in the frame, working around two walks while notching two strikeouts, to earn his third save in as many chances in the early portion of the season. Overall, the veteran closer has yet to allow an earned run over five innings of work this year while striking out six. He will look to continue his strong start to the season for an Angels team that has been a pleasant surprise with a 7-3 record in the early going.Source: MLB.com
Raisel Iglesias Earns Save On Tuesday
5 days agoAtlanta Braves right-hander Raisel Iglesias got the final three outs of a 7-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday to earn his first save of the season. Iglesias worked around a walk to preserve the win over Philadelphia in what was his second save chance of the season. The veteran closer has now made three appearances for the Braves this year, posting a 3.00 ERA, 0-1 record, and three strikeouts over that span. The Braves are off to a surprisingly poor 2-8 start, which has not afforded Iglesias many save chances, but he should remain a solid closing option in fantasy moving forward.Source: MLB.com
Emmanuel Clase Picks Up The Win On Tuesday
5 days agoCleveland Guardians right-hander Emmanuel Clase picked up the win in his team's 1-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Clase pitched a scoreless ninth inning while striking out two and improved his record to 2-0 after Nolan Jones' walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth. The veteran closer is off to a shaky start to the season, with a 5.40 ERA, no saves, and one blown save through five innings of work. That being said, it is too early to get concerned about a player who has been one of baseball's best closers over the past few seasons.Source: MLB.com
Brant Hurter Earns Save On Tuesday
5 days agoDetroit Tigers left-hander Brant Hurter picked up a save in his team's 5-0 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday. Hurter pitched the final three innings of the game while allowing no runs, walking one, and striking out three. The veteran hurler has now earned two saves this season, to go along with a 3.68 ERA and six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings of work. Despite the two saves, Hurter is not the Tigers' primary closer, so he does not look like a priority waiver add at the moment.Source: MLB.com
JJ Bleday Homers, Drives In Three On Tuesday
5 days agoAthletics outfielder JJ Bleday turned in a big game in a 10-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Bleday went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, a walk, three runs, and three RBI to help power his team to the win. The veteran outfielder kicked off the scoring for the A's with a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning and followed that up with a solo homer in the seventh inning. Bleday will hope his big day will get his bat going as he is off to a slow start this season, hitting just .209 with one homer, nine runs, and four RBI through 43 at-bats.Source: MLB.com
Corbin Carroll Homers, Scores Twice In Win On Tuesday
5 days agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll went 2-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored in a 4-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. Carroll tied the game up at 2-2 with his solo homer in the second inning, a shot that traveled 401 feet with an exit velocity of 106.9 MPH. The veteran outfielder is off to a fast start in 2025, hitting .304 with four homers, nine runs, and seven RBI through 46 at-bats. While he is still looking for his first stolen base, Carroll stole a combined 89 bags over his previous two seasons, so they should eventually come. He remains an everyday starter in all fantasy leagues.Source: MLB.com
Nick Lodolo Tosses Six Shutout Innings On Tuesday
5 days agoCincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo turned in a quality start in a 1-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. Lodolo threw six innings of shutout ball while striking out three, walking one, and allowing just three hits to improve his record to 2-1 on the year. While the strikeouts weren't there for the 27-year-old hurler, he was able to offset that by earning the win in the start. Lodolo has allowed just two earned runs over his first three starts, spanning 18 2/3 innings of work. Thanks to his strong start to the season, Lodolo has worked his way into the conversation as a solid fantasy starting pitcher moving forward. Lodolo is slated to make his next start against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.Source: MLB.com
