Marcelo Mayer With Two More Multi-Hit Performances Wednesday
Marcelo Mayer notched his fifth consecutive multi-hit performance in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader for Triple-A Worcester, then followed that up with a sixth straight multi-hit effort in Game 2. The left-handed slugger was 4-for-6 on the day with a walk, a home run, two RBI, and a run scored, now slashing .277/.318/.518 with six home runs and a minor-league-leading 26 RBI through 20 games. There's no clear path to playing time for the 22-year-old, however, he was at DH in Game 1 and at second base in Game 2; with shortstop being his primary position, it's possible he could have some sort of utility role whenever he gets the call in order to get him major league at-bats. As long as he stays hot, the closer his debut becomes, so fantasy managers should stay vigilant if looking for offensive help. Source: MiLB.com
Boston Red Sox infield prospect Rockies-Royals Rained Out On Wednesday
Michael Lorenzen was scheduled to toe the rubber for the Royals in this one, with veteran right-hander German Marquez scheduled to make the start for the last-place Rockies. Although nothing is official yet, we'd expect both pitchers to be pushed back to one of the games of the twin bill on Thursday. Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. will now have to wait until Thursday's games to try to extend his current hitting streak to 15 games. He's gone 18-for-50 (.360) with a homer, six doubles, four RBI and four steals during his 14-game hitting streak.Source: Kansas City Royals
Out of an abundance of caution, the game on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City between the Royals and Colorado Rockies has been postponed due to inclement weather and will be played as the second game of a traditional doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 1:10 pm CT. Veteran right-hander Zach Eflin To Throw A Side Session Later This Week
Zach Eflin (lat) will throw a side session on either Friday or Saturday, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Eflin has been cleared to throw off a mound this weekend for the first time since suffering a right-lat strain back on April 7. The 31-year-old might require several minor-league rehab starts after he throws a couple of bullpen sessions, though, which means we probably won't see him come off the 15-day injured list and rejoin Baltimore's starting rotation until some point in early May, barring a setback. Before his injury, Eflin had a 3.00 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with eight strikeouts and only one walk in 18 innings pitched over his first three starts in 2025. When healthy, Eflin still has fantasy value in mixed leagues, although there isn't a ton of upside after he showed a dip in his strikeout rate a year ago with Tampa and Baltimore.Source: MLB.com - Jake Rill
Baltimore Orioles right-hander "All Indications" Justin Martinez Will Be Available On Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that "all indications" are that right-handed reliever Justin Martinez (shoulder) will be available out of the bullpen for Tuesday's game against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. "I feel very stronglyread more...
Zack Wheeler Records Nine Strikeouts
Zack Wheeler was tasked with taking the ball against his former team on Wednesday. Wheeler didn't make many mistakes outside of giving up a two-run home run to Brett Baty in the second inning. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowing five hits, two runs, and striking out nine batters along the way. Sadly for Wheeler, the Phillies offense didn't do much as they ended up dropping this game to the New York Mets. Wheeler will take a 3.62 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and his league-leading 50 strikeouts into his next start against the Washington Nationals.Source: mlb
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jared Jones To Undergo MRI This Week
Jared Jones (elbow) is scheduled to undergo a follow-up MRI at some point this week. The 23-year-old has been shut down since late in spring training while dealing with a UCL sprain his in elbow. He hasn't thrown a baseball in quite some time, so it's going to take him weeks to ramp back up. The hope is that the MRI goes well and Jones can start a throwing program soon. After that, Jones will likely need a few rehab starts before rejoining the Pirates rotation. The organization hasn't given much of a timetable, but mid-June seems realistic for Jones to rejoin the Pirates rotation.Source: Alex Stumpf
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Luis Rengifo Returns On Wednesday
Luis Rengifo (tooth) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rengifo was absent from the starting lineup on Tuesday after getting a root canal. It's worth noting that he came off the bench as a pinch-hitter late in the game. He'll be back at third base and batting seventh against left-hander Andrew Heaney on Wednesday. Rengifo is off to a sluggish start, but remains worth holding in deep leagues and AL-only formats. He has shown he has the ability to be a solid contributor, so hopefully he gets back on track soon.Source: mlb.com
Los Angeles Angels infielder Chandler Simpson Sitting Out Versus Lefty
Chandler Simpson is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The rookie outfielder will take a seat against southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on Wednesday. Since being recalled, Simpson is hitting .333 with one RBI and two stolen bases in three games. He's worth an add in deep leagues and AL-only formats due to his ridiculous speed. On Wednesday, Yandy Diaz will take over the leadoff spot while Kameron Misner is in center field and bats seventh against Rodriguez. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups and pull out Simpson before first pitch.Source: mlb.com
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Joc Pederson Taking A Seat Versus Southpaw
Joc Pederson (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Athletics. Unsurprisingly, Pederson will get the night off against a left-handed starting pitcher as he has historically struggled against southpaws. His absence will mean Jonah Heim takes over as the designated hitter while Kyle Higashioka will be behind the plate against left-hander JP Sears. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch.Source: mlb.com
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras Sitting Out On Wednesday
Leody Taveras (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Athletics. Taveras has been off to a slow start this season as he's slashing .197/.210/.246 with six RBI heading into Wednesday's game. That being said, the Rangers have decided to give Taveras the night off against left-hander JP Sears. During his career, Taveras has struggled against left-handed pitching, so this seems like a good time to give him a rest game. In his absence, Kevin Pillar will take over in center field and bat leadoff against Sears. Pillar is hitting over .300 in his 23 plate appearances with the Rangers this season. He could offer some deep league appeal in the leadoff spot on Wednesday.Source: mlb.com
Texas Rangers outfielder Corey Seager Goes On 10-Day Injured List With Hamstring Strain
The Dallas Morning News' Shawn McFarland reports that Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) is going on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a right-hamstring strain. The good news, though, is that the Rangers expectread more...
Jonathan Aranda Sitting Against Southpaw
Jonathan Aranda will take a seat on Wednesday against the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez getting the nod on the bump. With the left-handed-hitting Aranda on the bench to start, Curtis Mead will play first base for the Rays and hit fifth against Rodriguez, a pitcher he's never faced. This should just be a routine day of rest against a southpaw for the 26-year-old Aranda, who should be rostered in all fantasy formats after starting the year slashing an impressive .344/.442/.656 with a 1.09 OPS, four home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored in his first 64 at-bats. The Mexican slugger is on an early-season tear, but he's gone just 1-for-10 with four walks and four K's against lefties. Mead has been cold, going 4-for-29 with no homers and one RBI in 2025.Source: MLB.com
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Logan O'Hoppe Out Against Pirates
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Travis d'Arnaud is doingread more...
Seiya Suzuki Scratched On Wednesday With Wrist Soreness
Seiya Suzuki (wrist) has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field due to right-wrist soreness, according to the team. Suzuki is being considered day-to-day. Veteran Justin Turner will serve as the designated hitter and will bat third against Dodgers right-hander Ben Casparius. Fantasy managers will want to make sure Suzuki is out of their lineup for Wednesday's action, but hopefully he'll be feeling good enough to return for Friday's series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies after an off day on Thursday. It's a bit concerning for the 30-year-old, though, as he also missed three games last week with the same issue. Since returning in the last five games, Suzuki has gone 5-for-22 with a double, two homers and five RBI. The Japanese outfielder is playing well early on with a .276/.354/.540 slash line and six homers.Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Maddie Lee
