5 months agoFrom an all-around perspective, there is some stuff to like about Keith Mitchell. Sure, he's coming off a missed cut in Detroit where he lost over three strokes on the greens, but he was leading the field in strokes gained on approach over his two rounds played. Unfortunately, he didn't do enough anywhere else to offset the horrible putting. The biggest issue this week is the hefty $11,300 price tag on FanDuel to add him to a lineup, and given the lack of evidence to support Mitchell being able to putt well enough to post four consecutive sub-68 rounds, there are very few positives for playing him outside of ownership leverage.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoAndrew Putnam finished T44 at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago and is now focusing on preparing for this week's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. Putnam has had mixed results in the past at the John Deere Classic, finishing T41 in 2022 and missing the cut in 2021. One noteworthy point is that at last year's John Deere Classic, over 33% of approach shots came from 100-150 yards, and over the past 12 months Putnam ranks in the 96th percentile in greens in regulation percentage from 100-150 yards in the fairways. Putnam has struggled for consistency at times this year but could go overlooked this week and is worth considering for DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoRyo Hisatsune finished tied for 31st place at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic and has achieved two consecutive top-35 finishes. He is now preparing for this week's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. This will be Hisatsune's first appearance at the John Deere Classic. It's worth noting that at last year's edition of the tournament, over 33% of approach shots came from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Hisatsune ranks in the 84th percentile in greens in regulation percentage from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Although Hisatsune has been playing solid golf, including him in DFS lineups this week could come with some risk.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoAdam Svensson did not make the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week. Now, he is getting ready for the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. Before the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Svensson had made the cut in 11 consecutive appearances. It's interesting to note that in last year's John Deere Classic, over 33% of approach shots were from 100-150 yards, and in the past 12 months, Svensson ranks in the 73rd percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. This week could be a great opportunity for Svensson to bounce back, as he has shown excellent form in 2024 and might be a good choice for DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoKevin Yu finished T31 at last week's Rocket Mortgage Classic and is now gearing up for this week's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. This will be Yu's second appearance at the John Deere Classic; he finished tied for sixth in 2023. Notably, at last year's John Deere Classic, over 33% of approach shots were taken from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Yu ranks in the 80th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Yu may go overlooked this week but is worth considering for DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoDenny McCarthy finished T31 at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. He is now getting ready for this week's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. McCarthy has a strong track record at the John Deere Classic, tying for sixth place in 2023 and 2022, but missed the cut in 2021. One noteworthy detail is that during last year's John Deere Classic, over 33% of approach shots came from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, McCarthy has ranked in the 82nd percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Considering his recent form and past success at this event, McCarthy could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoJordan Spieth finished T63 at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. He will now focus on preparing for this week's John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. This will be Spieth's first appearance at the John Deere Classic since 2015 when he won the tournament. It's worth noting that at last year's John Deere Classic, over 33% of the approach shots taken were from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Spieth ranks in the 12th percentile for greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. Although Spieth hasn't displayed his best form this year, he's always capable of competing and is worth considering for DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoOutside the Majors, Sungjae Im has been on a great run going back to the RBC Heritage. Since that T12 finish, the South Korean hasn't finished outside the top 10 in any non-major tournament. He has shown the ability to play well at tough venues, which makes his poor performances on the biggest stages so shocking. But his tie for third at the Travelers also suggests he can hang with the world's best on birdie-fest tracks that force players to play from similar positions like we have this week. His 102nd rank on tour in strokes gained on approach (-0.035) is not indicative of where he is in terms of his iron play right now, as he was 4th in the field in Connecticut for strokes gained on approach. At $11,600 on FanDuel, he is as safe as they come for this extremely-weak field.Source: Data Golf
5 months agoBrendon Todd produced a top-five result at the Valero Texas Open. The American golfer has struggled since, failing to record a top-25 finish since. Over the past three months, Todd has missed just two cuts but has not finished better than 36th. One of the biggest reasons is his ability to get off the tee and approach the green. Add in a driving distance that ranks 170th on tour (278.3 yards) and greens-in-regulation rank of 150th (62.43%), and it makes quality results elusive for him. Todd averages only 3.49 birdies per round, which may make him less attractive for DFS purposes.Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoLee Hodges had been on a nice run of good form. The American golfer nearly finished in the Top 10 at the Arnold Palmer and PGA Championship. Hodges made five straight cuts before missing the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. His biggest weakness may be off the tee where he ranks 131st in strokes gained (-0.216). Part of that is his 293.7 average driving distance but he is 28th in driving accuracy (68.05%). A few more yards might help his birdie fortunes. Hodges ranks 147th in birdie average at 3.50. The John Deere Classic has seen white a few birdies made. It has taken a -21 the past two years to win. Hodges will need to make more putts. Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoMichael Thorbjornsen earned his PGA Tour card by graduating the PGA University as the top-ranked player. The American golfer has had golf in his blood and does have a Top 5 result from the 2022 Travelers Championship. He has fared well on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour with four Top 20 results. The delay in his arrival on tour came from a stress fracture in his back. Thorbjornsen bounced back then posted a Top 10 at the Pac-12 Championship and NCAA Regional. He drives the ball over 310 yards and when accurate can easily gain several strokes off the tee. Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoSeamus Power has been very good one event and bad the next. The golfer from Ireland will make the cut one week and miss the next. This pattern has been continuing on and off for the past three months. Power still does not have a Top 10 result in 2024 but has several Top 25 finishes including a tie for 20th at the Travelers Championship. Power mounted a feverish final round shooting a 63. The inconsistency has pushed Power's metrics to average or below average. He is Top 30 in scrambling from the rough (27th) and 26th in sand save percentage. Power has potential for DFS purposes but it is hard to tell which Power will be seen.Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoNick Dunlap turned pro earlier in 2024. The American Express winner has had quite a rookie year. The American golfer has not fared so well in the major tournaments but then again, Dunlap is still only 20. He bounced back after a middling Travelers Championship to finish in the Top 10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Dunlap's biggest assets have been birdie average and putting average are both in the Top 15 on the PGA Tour (4.21 and 1.722 respectively). One of the keys for Dunlap this week may be driving accuracy. He can drive 305-310+ yards but his 59.63% accuracy will need to be better at the John Deere Classic.Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoDavis Thompson started out 2024 pretty slowly. However, the surprise Top 10 result af the U.S. Open spurred the American golfer. Thompson shot all four rounds in the 60's at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week. That resulted in a tie for second which almost vaulted Thompson into the Top 50 for the FedEx Cup. Greens in regulation has been above 70% for the past several tournaments for Thompson. He ranks 25th on tour overall now at 68.3%. Do not forget Thompson's improving scoring average of 69.53. Thompson really could continue his run of the past two months into July.Source: PGATour.com
5 months agoThe golf community is gearing up for a second-straight putting contest at the John Deere Classic, and Maverick McNealy will surely be on the radar of many fantasy managers as a result. The 28-year-old Stanford alum enters the week on the heels of five consecutive made cuts, a string of events in which he's posted three finishes inside of the top-25. He's also gained over four strokes putting in back-to-back events, a feat he's only accomplished one other time in his 5-year PGA Tour career. You won't find many other golfers with better course history either, as McNealy has posted finishes of T18 and T8 in his only two starts at TPC Deere Run. Last week marked the first time he lost strokes ball-striking since the Valspar Championship back in March. If McNealy can match his recent ball-striking form with his elite putting prowess, it's quite possible he could land his first PGA Tour victory when all is said and done on Sunday.Source: PGA Tour
