5 months agoIndianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell was the team's standout player during the spring and made at least one noteworthy catch during every practice that was open to the media. The 21-year-old refuses to believe that 10 fellow wideouts -- the number drafted ahead of him -- were better than him in this year's NFL draft. "He gets open a lot," second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson said. If Mitchell can get on the same page with Richardson early this year, it could easily help the Colts end their three-year playoff drought. Mitchell's physical skills are off the charts, but he was never even the most productive receiver in college at both Georgia and Texas. There's a lot to like about him in the long-term, but Mitchell will mostly be a dynasty/keeper league asset as he competes for targets in his first year with Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts running back Evan Hull (knee) played in just one game and eight offensive snaps in his rookie season in 2023 before suffering a season-ending knee injury in which he tore his left MCL. "It was a root tear, so it was a little different than your typical tear in the body, which would be more of a six- to eight-week type of thing that we see typically," Hull said. The former third-rounder was cleared to resume all football activities a few weeks after offseason organized team activities begin, and he's been competing alongside Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson as the Colts evaluate who will serve as the primary back to Jonathan Taylor in 2024. Sermon is probably the favorite for the No. 2 backfield job, but Hull could see some third-down work in his second season in the NFL.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) was held out completely from Thursday's organized team activities due to what he described as "a little soreness" in his surgically repaired right shoulder. "It's nothing to worry about," Richardson said. "I've dealt with this before. Normally, I just ice up and just go back at it again." The Colts aren't going to push the second-year signal-caller after he had season-ending AC joint surgery back in October, and Richardson dismissed any notion that he suffered a setback in his rehab. He said the Colts were actually "surprised" that Thursday was the first day he sat out due to soreness because it's been "smooth sailing" otherwise. Despite having played in only four games in the NFL, Richardson has enticing high-end QB1 upside in fantasy. Richardson should be a full-go in training camp this summer.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd

6 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts released offensive lineman Jack Anderson on Thursday, according to NFL.com. The 2021 seventh-round pick by the Buffalo Bills out of Texas Tech signed a one-year contract extension with the Colts just over three months ago, but his time with the organization has come to an end. Anderson, who is 25 years old, has played in 15 games (three starts) for the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, and Colts. While he's unlikely to compete for a starting role elsewhere, teams are always looking to add depth to the offensive line.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce (foot) didn't take part in mandatory minicamp this week as a precaution after his foot was stepped on in practice last week. It's a minor injury for Pierce, who should be a full-go for training camp at the end of July. The 24-year-old wideout will be competing for the No. 3 job in Indy this year with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell behind starters Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs. The former second-rounder in 2022 out of Cincinnati hasn't really been on the fantasy radar in standard 12-team leagues in his first two years in the NFL, catching a total of 73 passes for 1,107 yards and four touchdowns, although a healthy Anthony Richardson at quarterback could change that if Pierce beats out Mitchell for the No. 3 job in training camp and the preseason.Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. 6 months agoIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Thursday that second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder. Steichen inferred that it wasn't a big deal, though, saying that Richardson could play in a game if needed. The 22-year-old made it through only four games in his rookie campaign in 2023 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury, but the former fourth overall pick in 2023 out of Florida has been fully cleared this offseason and will be ready to go for the start of the regular season this fall. It's not out of the ordinary for a player in Richardson's situation to have some normal soreness during his recovery. Richardson is going to need to improve as a passer, but his elite rushing ability and physicality make give him high-end QB1 upside going into Year 2.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) was seen with trainers on Wednesday during OTAs. Colts writer James Boyd of the Athletic said that trainers were looking at Richardson's shoulder throughout the day, but nobody seemed worried. As a result, Joe Flacco took the majority of first-team reps this afternoon. This should be seen as precautionary, as the former Florida Gator expressed last week on the Pat McAfee show that his shoulder was at "95 percent" as he has been recovering from a season-ending shoulder surgery he underwent last October. The 22-year-old will be a popular breakout pick in drafts later this summer, as he flashed elite upside in four games last season with 577 yards through the air and 136 yards on the ground with seven total scores. Richardson also has elite playmakers around him in Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman, and second-round pick Adonai Mitchell which further boost his fantasy stock.Source: James Boyd
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts safety Daniel Scott (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles in practice last week, effectively putting an end to his 2024 campaign. This is unfortunate news, especially since Scott missed his entire rookie season last year with a torn ACL. The 2023 fifth-round pick out of California was a two-time All-Pac-12 performer in college and was expected to provide depth in the Colts' backend this season. After the new injury, Scott will be 26 years old before he has the chance to hit the field for a regular season game.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoOn the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) said he's almost fully recovered from season-ending surgery on his right shoulder last year. "I'm at about 95% right now and it took me about four months to start throwing again," Richardson said. It took Richardson around four months before he could resume throwing and he's been taking part in organized team activities this offseason as he heads into his second year in the NFL. The 22-year-old former first-rounder isn't planning on changing the way he plays to avoid injuries as a runner and he says he's a lot more comfortable in head coach Shane Steichen's offense. Richardson has more injury risk than most QBs because of his propensity to take off and run with the football, but he also has high-end QB1 upside despite playing in only four games in 2023 before getting hurt.Source: Pat McAfee Show

6 months agoWith Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor taking a personal day at organized team activities on Thursday, it allowed for more running back reps for Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull. Both Sermon and Goodson broke off a couple big runs. Behind Taylor this year, the backup RB roles and reps are very much in the air among Sermon, Goodson and Hull now that Zack Moss is in Cincinnati. The 23-year-old Goodson is probably considered the biggest long shot to earn the No. 2 role this year behind Taylor, but the fact that he's being given reps with the first-team offense in OTAs means he has an early shot. The former undrafted free agent out of Iowa saw his first 13 carries in six games (one start) last year and gained 87 yards on the ground. He also added six receptions for an additional 34 yards.Source: 107.5 The Fan - Kevin Bowen
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell continues to flash his potential during organized team activities this offseason and made one of the plays of the day on Thursday during a 7-on-7 period. The highlight-reel play explains why the Colts took a swing on Mitchell in the second round of the draft despite just one year of big-time production in college. He had 55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023 at Texas and ranked first among receivers in this year's draft class with 81.8% of his catches resulting in a first down or touchdown. "He's been making a ton of plays out here the past couple of days," head coach Shane Steichen said. The 21-year-old is certainly one to watch, but his production could be sporadic in his rookie campaign if all of Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce can stay healthy.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
6 months agoIndianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons (foot) has a boot on his left ankle/foot and is not practicing during organized team activities this week. Lammons entered the NFL in 2019 with the Miami Dolphins after being an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina. The 28-year-old defensive back spent his first year in South Beach before playing for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2020-22 before spending last year with the Colts, where he had just six tackles (four solo) and one pass defended in four games (one start). Lammons will be hoping to get back on the field by the time mandatory minicamp starts next month as he looks to earn a spot on the active roster following training camp and the preseason. He has only 32 combined tackles in 46 career NFL games (one start) since 2019.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
