3 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Bo Melton recorded two receptions for 10 yards in Sunday's preseason loss to the Broncos. The Packers quarterbacks threw for a total of 95 yards with a 3.7 yards per completion average. Sunday's game was a game to forget for the Packers offense. Melton played a legitimate role for the team in 2023. Once he was activated to the active roster in November, Melton recorded 16 grabs for 218 yards and a touchdown in only five games played. Melton may be fighting for a roster spot with the Packers despite playing in both playoff games in 2023. Melton is currently listed as the Packers' No. 5 wide receiver.Source: ESPN
3 months agoGreen Bay Packers second-year wide receiver Malik Heath had another solid preseason outing with three catches for 22 yards. Heath now has five catches for 44 yards this preseason. Heath is buried on the depth chart and is likely fighting for a roster spot as a special-teamer. He recorded 15 grabs for 125 yards and a touchdown during his rookie season with the Packers in 2023. Heath is a big-bodied wide receiver who could provide solid depth behind the Packers' main wide receivers should he make the team. His familiarity with the team could give him a solid chance at a roster spot when final cuts arrive.Source: ESPN
3 months agoGreen Bay Packers No. 4 running back Emanuel Wilson continues to receive a substantial workload during the preseason. Wilson finished Sunday's game against the Broncos with 13 carries for 41 yards and one reception for 11 yards. The Packers could not get much going on offense and primarily played their backups. However, with No. 3 Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) still out, Wilson continues to receive chances to show his skillset and show he belongs on the roster. The second-year back finished his rookie season with 14 carries for 85 yards a season ago with the Packers.Source: ESPN
3 months agoGreen Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love expressed the importance of using team practices to push the offense forward. Love stated that the value of a practice rep is to "push the limit." Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette noted that Love tended to focus more on check-downs in camps last summer as he was in the process of learning the playbook. However, this camp is much different as the Utah State product has had his eyes downfield throughout the summer. In his most recent practice, he opened the session by throwing a 16 and a 20-yard completion consecutively. After getting off to a slow start in his full season as a starter, Love caught fire down the stretch and was the No. 2 overall QB from Week 10 to 17. Love will be a popular pick in fantasy drafts as he looks poised to take another step forward in his second full season.Source: Ryan Wood - Green Bay Press-Gazette

4 months agoGreen Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon recorded four carries for two yards in the Packers' preseason opener against the Browns. Dillon entered the game with the second offense on the Packers' second drive. He appears to be in position to be the Packers' No. 2 running back to start the season. However, Dillon continued the inefficient running he displayed in 2023. With rookie MarShawn Lloyd's (hamstring) status uncertain moving forward, Dillon may be able to hold the job for now.Source: ESPN
4 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jordan Love on Saturday. It was his only catch of the game. Wicks sprung free down the right sideline and caught the ball with several yards of separation from his defender. Wicks has been an interesting sleeper candidate for 2024. While it is only the preseason, Wicks' early involvement should be encouraging for prospective fantasy managers. Wicks finished 2023 with 39 receptions for 581 yards and four touchdowns. No Packers wide receiver has established themselves as a clear No. 1 in the offense, leaving Wicks room to improve upon those numbers. Wicks finished the game with his lone reception on his only target, as the starters did not last past the first drive. Look for more flashes from Wicks as the preseason continues, and keep an eye on him during the fantasy draft season.Source: ESPN
4 months agoGreen Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed a 65-yard bomb to wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks on the third play from scrimmage in the Packers' 23-10 preseason win over the Browns. The Packers' starters did not see much action because their opening drive ended so strongly. While Love ended 2023 on a tear, he still needs to prove that he can be an elite quarterback on a weekly basis throughout an entire season. Saturday's game did nothing to suggest that he will not continue his ascension. Fantasy managers can be confident in drafting Love with the quality of pass catchers surrounding him. He may very well exceed his lofty 2023 numbers of 4,159 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. Hopefully, fantasy managers will be able to watch Love at least one more time during the preseason.Source: ESPN
4 months agoGreen Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) was forced to exit early during Saturday's preseason matchup against the Cleveland Browns. The rookie back only saw two touches before exiting the contest. The organization will likely have Lloyd undergo further testing before knowing the severity of the injury. He's competing for a spot on the roster behind Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon.Source: Green Bay Packers

4 months agoGreen Bay Packers kickers Greg Joseph and Anders Carlson are in a competition for the starting job in 2024 after the team cut rookie James Turner last week. Carlson, a sixth-round pick last year, struggled at the end of his first year in the NFL, included a missed 41-yard field goal late in the Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It's been a close competition between the two in training camp, but ESPN's Rob Demovsky writes that Joseph has a slight advantage through the early portion based solely on the numbers. Joseph had made 36 of 40 field goals, while Carlson was 33-for-40. Carlson's only miss at practice last Saturday was from 57 yards out, though. Head coach Matt LaFleur anticipates the kicking competition playing out throughout the preseason, so Carlson has time to flip the script.Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
4 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (calf) has returned to the practice field at training camp on Thursday after he was held out of practice on Wednesday with a minor calf injury. Reed also missed the early part of camp due to an injury, but he's fine now and should be 100 percent for the start of the 2024 regular season, barring any other injury setbacks in camp or the preseason. The 24-year-old is the team's starting slot receiver but could have a tough time replicating his impressive rookie season in which he scored 10 total touchdowns (eight receiving, two rushing) in 16 games. Reed's production was helped by the fact that Christian Watson missed time due to injury. He's a big part of Green Bay's offense moving forward, but as long as Watson and Romeo Doubs are healthy, fantasy managers should be concerned about target volume for Reed.Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky
4 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) took a hit to his left knee on the last play of training camp practice on Wednesday and stayed face down on the grass while teammates took a knee around him. Watson eventually got up and walked gingerly under his own power, giving two thumbs up to a camera on the sideline. "It's a little sore, but it's just a bruise, so nothing that's going to stop me from doing anything," Watson said. Depending on how he feels later in the week, the Packers could hold Watson out of the preseason opener on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns as a precaution, but it looks like he avoided a serious injury. The 25-year-old has plenty of big-play ability, but durability issues and questions about target volume make him more of a boom/bust WR4/flex in fantasy drafts.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
4 months agoGreen Bay's head coach, Matt LaFleur, had high praise for running back Josh Jacobs, particularly highlighting his skills in the passing game. LaFleur expressed excitement about Jacobs' versatility, noting his significant contributions as a pass-blocker and a receiving threat out of the backfield. This enthusiasm is reassuring for Jacobs' supporters, who already anticipated his crucial role in early down-rushing and goal-line situations. If Jacobs also takes on a receiving role, his fantasy value could soar this season. Conversely, this development could impact rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd, who hoped to showcase his passing game skills. LaFleur further emphasized Jacobs' toughness and rugged running style, suggesting that his actual value might only be fully appreciated in live tackling situations, where his reputation as a punishing runner will be evident. Given LaFleur's endorsement of Jacobs as a primary early down back with potential added receiving duties, he could be a strong pick in the 3rd round of drafts.Source: The Coachspeak Index @CoachspeakIndex
