9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers confirmed on Friday that they interviewed Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for their head-coaching job. In his return to the NFL in 2023, Monken helped run one of the best offenses in the league with the help of MVP front-runner Lamar Jackson at quarterback. The Ravens offense ranked sixth in the NFL in yards per game (370.4) while averaging 156.5 rushing yards per contest. The offense also ranked in the top 10 in third- and fourth-down conversions and red-zone efficiency. Monken began his career in the NFL in 2007 as the Jaguars' wide receivers coach before leaving twice to coach in the college ranks. He won the National Championship two straight years with Georgia before joining the Ravens in 2023.Source: Chargers.com - Omar Navarro
9 months agoFormer Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will interview for the Los Angeles Chargers' vacant head-coaching position, according to a league source. After taking the 2023 season off, it appears that Frazier is ready to get back to coaching in 2024. The 64-year-old was the Minnesota Vikings head coach from 2010-13 and had a 21-32-1 record, highlighted by a 10-6 record with a playoff appearance in 2012. He was the Bills' defensive coordinator from 2017-22. The Chargers are looking for a new head coach and general manager after firing Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco in the middle of the season. So far, the majority of their head-coaching candidates are defensive coordinators.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
10 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers completed an interview with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head-coaching job on Tuesday. The Chargers have already begun the process of looking for Brandon Staley's successor for 2024 and beyond. Moore left the Dallas Cowboys last spring to run LA's offense, and in his first season with the Bolts, the Chargers offense ranked 18th in total offense and 21st in points. In addition to Moore, the Chargers plan to interview San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Baltimore Ravens OC Todd Monken, Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn, Las Vegas Raiders DC Patrick Graham and Los Angeles Rams DC Raheem Morris.Source: Los Angeles Chargers
10 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers have requested an interview with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for their head-coaching job, according to a source. Morris has been a popular name so far in this year's head-coaching cycle, as the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers have also requested interviews with him for their head-coaching positions. In addition to Morris, the Chargers have also requested interviews with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Morris went 17-31 in three seasons as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach and was 4-7 as the interim head coach with the Atlanta Falcons. He's spent the last three years running the Rams' defense.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
10 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers have requested interviews with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for their head-coaching job, according to multiple reports. The Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco during the regular season. Quinn has been a popular head-coaching candidate the last several cycles, but he's pulled his name from consideration to return to Dallas. The Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders are also interested in Quinn for their head-coaching openings. Graham could be a candidate for the permanent head-coaching gig in Vegas or could remain in his position if interim coach Antonio Pierce winds up with the full-time job.Source: Pro Football Talk - Josh Alper

10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker scored all of the Chargers points for a second game in a row in a Week 18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs backup squad. Dicker made all four of his field goal tries to wrap up an impressive season in which he was one of the few bright spots for a slumping Los Angeles team. Week 18 saw Dicker make field goals from 49, 40, 43, and 20 yards out. For the first time in a long time, the Chargers had a solid special teams unit this season. The problem was, the offense and defense were both mired in season-long slumps.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston made two catches against the Kansas City Chiefs backups in Week 18 to finally and mercifully end his tough rookie season. Johnston, who was drafted in the first round, ended up making just 38 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns all year. In Week 18, he turned five targets into two catches for 17 yards. He'll be back for the 2024 season with a whole new coach and (likely) offensive coordinator, so it will be interesting to see if they will be able to turn around one of the biggest busts of the 2023 draft.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer made six catches in the final Chargers game of the season, a Week 18 loss to the backups of the Kansas City Chiefs. Palmer was targeted a team-high 10 times, making his six catches for 44 yards. It was a tough end to the season for the Chargers passing game, who had to watch Easton Stick only throw touchdowns in one of his four starts. Palmer flashed a few times while on the field this season, but injuries slowed him down a bit and he's not quite suited to be a team's WR1. He missed some time with a concussion and then was forced to leave this game early due to a knee injury.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers tight end Donald Parham Jr. led the team in receiving yards in a Week 18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs backups. Parham was targeted six times, making five catches for 83 yards. Parham has always had tantalizing upside thanks to his size and athleticism, but injuries and inconsistency have left him as a fantasy afterthought despite all of that. The Chargers roster is sure to look quite different come Week 1 of next season, but Parham is unlikely to carve out a key role outside of his usual red zone involvement.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was terrible again in a Week 18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Ekeler likely ends his Chargers career with an awful performance against mostly Chiefs backups. He ran the ball 10 times, gaining 11 yards total on the ground. He was targeted eight times in the passing game, making seven catches for 38 yards through the air. This wraps up Ekeler's worst season by far and likely his last as a Charger. His days as a three-down back are clearly done, but his track record is good enough that someone will certainly take a chance on him as a third down or change of pace back for next season. He'll be much further down draft boards than he was before this season regardless of his landing spot, and any dynasty league managers rostering him should try to get whatever they can for him now.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Easton Stick had another struggle game in a Week 18 matchup against an all-backups version of the Kansas City Chiefs. Stick threw the ball 47 times, completing 28 passes for 258 empty yards. He added 77 yards on the ground on 13 carries and lost a fumble along the way. It was yet another game without a passing touchdown for Stick, who ends the season with three total passing touchdowns, all of which came in the same Week 14 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers will have starter Justin Herbert back for Week 1 next season, but the backup quarterback position is certainly something they'll need to address sooner than later.Source: ESPN.com
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Palmer was the Chargers' leading receiver before going down, catching six of his 10 targets for 44 yards. Los Angeles would like to end the 2023-24 campaign on a high note. However, with the team battling more than a few critical injuries, Palmer may not be back. With Gerald Everett (knee) also done in Week 18, Donald Parham Jr., Alex Erickson, and Quentin Johnston are the favorites to remain the most involved on the receiving end.Source: Los Angeles Chargers
10 months agoLos Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett (knee) has been downgraded to out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He initially exited the game during the first quarter. At the time of his departure, Everett had caught one pass for 14 yards. The 29-year-old has recently emerged as one of the Chargers' top weapons, commanding 33 targets over his last four games, so losing him will hurt Los Angeles. Donald Parham Jr. should step up as the top tight end for Los Angeles. Everett finishes 2023 having caught 51 passes for 411 yards and three touchdowns.Source: Los Angeles Chargers
