6 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner agreed to a two-year, $46 million contract extension on Monday that ties him to the Colts through the 2026 season, according to sources. The Colts traded the No. 13 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 for Buckner and quickly signed him to a four-year, $84 million extension. The 30-year-old pass-rusher will stick around in Indianapolis for two more years after recording 166 solo tackles, 32.5 sacks, 42 tackles for loss, 87 QB hits, 16 passes defended, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown) in 66 regular-season games (62 starts) since the Colts acquired him from San Fran in 2020. He'll remain relevant in IDP fantasy leagues in 2024 despite being an interior defensive lineman.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
6 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts are hosting Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy for a visit on Friday. His draft stock has seen an increase since Worthy broke the 40 yard dash record during the NFL Combine. It's worth noting that Worthy has also done a visit with the Chicago Bears. The 20-year-old should be an explosive option for whichever team decides to draft him later this month. He notched nearly 1,000 receiving yards on 62 receptions with a dozen touchdown grabs during his most recent season at Texas. The Colts could have a dynamic duo between Worthy and Michael Pittman Jr., assuming they decide to draft him this April.Source: Ian Rapoport
7 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder), who played in parts of just four games in his rookie season in 2023 before having season-ending shoulder surgery for an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, is making roughly 40 throws per day in his recovery this offseason. He has thrown more than 200 passes in all just five months post-surgery. The 21-year-old former fourth overall pick is on a mission to get ready for his sophomore season and should be fully ready for Week 1 this fall. "I've never waited this long to get back to playing football," Richardson said. "I'm just on a mission this year. Once that mission's complete, then I'll be good." While Richardson has plenty to improve on as a passer, he has considerable QB1 upside in fantasy football because of his sure athletic ability and rushing prowess despite not having played a full season in the NFL.Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts need help at cornerback, which is why Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold makes sense for them with the 15th overall pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft. Arnold emerged as a star for 'Bama in 2023 with five interceptions and 17 pass breakups. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is more athletic than teammate Kool-Aid McKinstry but only ran a 4.50-second 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in February. "Kept getting better and better. Texas A&M ran by him earlier in his career, but he really developed. He's a dawg, a three-position player — corner, nickel and safety," one coach said. Arnold is not likely to garner tons of attention if he's taken in the first round later this month, but he'd be a big upgrade for Indy's secondary.Source: The Athletic - Bruce Feldman
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts are re-signing safety Julian Blackmon to a one-year deal, according to Jordan Schultz on Bleacher Report. The 2020 third-round pick out of Utah has spent his entire four-year career with the Colts and has played in 50 games. He has tallied 214 tackles (163 solo), one sack, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, 17 passes defended, and 14.5 run stuffs thus far. Blackmon earned a 68.3 PFF grade in 2023, the best of his career.Source: Jordan Schultz
7 months agoIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen wouldn't say definitively that quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) will be cleared by next month but he "should be" after missing most of his rookie season in 2023 with an AC joint sprain that required season-ending surgery. "I know he's super fired up and ready to roll through the spring practice and training camp and this season," Steichen said. The 21-year-old had surgery on Oct. 24 and began throwing last month. This year in training camp, Richardson will take all of the starting reps while Joe Flacco serves as his backup. Having his role clearly defined at this stage of the offseason, as well as another year in the same system, should make Richardson feel more comfortable than he did as a rookie. His brief showing in 2023 gave fantasy managers a quick glimpse into his high-end QB1 upside, mainly because of his elite rushing abilities.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts re-signed center Danny Pinter (ankle) to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a source. The Colts decided to bring Pinter back in 2024 despite the fact that he missed all of the 2023 campaign due to broken ankle that he suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in the preseason. The 27-year-old was drafted by the Colts in the fifth round (149th overall) in 2020 out of Ball State. In his first four seasons, Pinter has started just seven of the 46 games that he's appeared in. The Indiana native should come to training camp this summer with a clean bill of health after undergoing surgery as he looks to earn a bigger role on the Colts' offensive line. Most likely, Pinter will open the year as a backup, with the Colts returning all seven players who started at least one game in 2023.Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts re-signed running back Trey Sermon to an undisclosed deal on Thursday. Sermon will return to the Colts in 2024 after carrying the ball 35 times for 160 yards and no touchdowns while catching three passes for 13 yards in 14 games in his first season with the team in 2023. Right now, the 25-year-old former third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 is next in line behind starter Jonathan Taylor after Zack Moss signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency, but it's likely that the Colts will add to the position through either free agency or the upcoming NFL draft. In his three years in the NFL with the Niners, Eagles and Colts, Sermon has averaged 4.4 yards per carry on 78 rushing attempts for 346 yards and only one score in 25 games (two starts).Source: Colts.com - JJ Stankevitz
7 months agoFormer Cleveland Browns quarterback and NFL Comeback Player of the Year winner Joe Flacco reached an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday on a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million, including $4.5 million guaranteed, according to sources. Flacco came off his couch to unexpectedly lead the Browns to the postseason in 2023, ultimately finishing with 1,616 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in five starts during the regular season. The 39-year-old veteran will now head to Indy to replace Gardner Minshew as the primary backup for young signal-caller Anthony Richardson, who saw his rookie season come to an end early last year due to a shoulder injury. Given Richardson's propensity to run with the ball, another injury in 2024 could force Flacco back into the spotlight.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
7 months agoFormer Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Raekwon Davis signed a two-year, $14 million base-value deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, according to his agent, Trevon Smith. After being taken in the second round by Miami in 2020 out of Alabama, Davis has accumulated 129 total tackles (59 solo), only two sacks, five tackles for loss and 10 QB hits in 63 games (48 starts) in four seasons. In all 17 regular-season games in 2023, the 26-year-old interior defensive lineman made seven starts and had 28 tackles (15 solo) and half a sack. Davis figures to be a rotational piece on the interior of Indy's defensive line in 2024 and can be avoided for IDP fantasy purposes.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts re-signed cornerback Kenny Moore to a three-year, $30 million deal on Tuesday that makes him the highest-paid nickel cornerback in the NFL, according to a source. Moore, who was a Pro Bowler for the first and only time in his career in 2021, had 93 total tackles (68 solo), 1.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, three interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and six passes defended in 16 starts in 2023 in his seventh season with Indianapolis. It was a rebound from a down year in 2022 in which he only played in 12 contests. The 28-year-old corner finished last year as the No. 12 overall defensive back in IDP fantasy leagues and should be in play as a starter at the position in those setups again in 2024.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts re-signed defensive tackle Grover Stewart on Monday to a three-year, $39 million deal, according to a source. Stewart played in a career-low 11 games for the Colts in his seventh year with the team in 2023 due to a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, ultimately finishing with 41 tackles (23 solo), half a sack, five tackles for loss and eight QB hits. The 30-year-old had career-highs in total tackles (70) and sacks (four) in 2022, though, and he remained pretty productive in his 11 starts last year after he served his six-game suspension. The former fourth-round selection in 2017 out of Albany State isn't much of an IDP fantasy option with only nine career sacks, but he's a steady force on the interior of Indy's defensive line with 280 career combined tackles in 107 games played.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
7 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts and standout wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. agreed to a three-year, $70 million contract extension on Monday, according to a source. The deal can reach up to $71.5 million maximum and includes $46 million guaranteed. The deal means that Pittman won't play the 2024 season under the franchise tag. It's a major win for both sides. The Colts had no intentions of letting one of the best receivers in the game reach the open market, which is why they used their franchise tag on the 26-year-old to buy them a little extra time to work on an extension. The former second-round pick in 2020 out of USC had a career-high 1,152 receiving yards and four touchdowns on a career-high 109 receptions in 16 games in 2023 and is a no-doubt WR1 in fantasy.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 months agoIndianapolis Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin is signing a three-year $31.26 million contract extension with the organization, keeping him with the team long-term. Franklin's 107 solo tackles and 179 total tackles ranked second in the NFL last year, only behind Bobby Wagner. He became a star of the team's defense after the release of former All-Pro Shaquille Leonard, so the Colts prioritized keeping him in Indianapolis. Franklin is one of the most active off-ball linebackers in the NFL, making him one of the top IDP players in fantasy football.Source: Adam Schefter
8 months agoThe Indianapolis Star's Nate Atkins suggests that the Indianapolis Colts could target Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent running back Gus Edwards on the open market this offseason as insurance to lead back Jonathan Taylor. The Colts could re-sign Zack Moss, but he's going to look for a starting role after a breakout contract year in 2023. Edwards had a career-high 13 rushing touchdowns last season and is a bruising back that would help spell Taylor in the backfield. Edwards has also averaged 4.9 yards per carry in his career and could pair well with rushing quarterback Anthony Richardson. At 29 years old, he could prefer a more specialized role in order to prolong his career. In addition to Edwards, Atkins suggests receiver Josh Reynolds and veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor as other offensive free agents the Colts could look at this offseason.Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins
