3 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto went 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks, an RBI, and three runs scored on Wednesday in a 6-5 win over the Braves. This was his first home run and first multi-hit game of the season, and he is now slashing .368/.500/.737 through 24 plate appearances. He batted in the cleanup spot in this game against a right-handed pitcher, following the great trio of Ohtani, Betts, and Hernandez. He should see plenty of RBI opportunities hitting behind the Dodgers' plethora of elite hitters, even if he takes a spot on the bench some days when a left-handed starter is on the mound. He launched 20 homers with 66 RBI for the Giants last season, two numbers he should be able to improve upon now that he is in a better park and a better lineup.Source: MLB.com
3 hours agoDetroit Tigers third baseman prospect Jace Jung smacked his second home run of 2025 in a 2-for-4 day at the plate for Triple-A Toledo. The 24-year-old also tripled and drew a walk in the contest. The left-handed slugger is 5-for-15 (.333) to begin the 2025 campaign, with four of his five hits going for extra bases. The Texas Tech product has also walked seven times, compared to six strikeouts, giving him a .545 OBP. The Tigers' seventh-ranked prospect debuted with the club last year and held his own, slashing .241/.362/.304, but with no home runs. With a career 15.7 percent walk rate in the minors, Jung would be viable for fantasy if he can get the power to come around the next time he gets the call to the majors, however, he'll be a zero in the stolen base department, and a high strikeout rate may limit any upside. Regardless, look for him to be back with Detroit in 2025. Source: MiLB.com
4 hours agoFirst baseman Jon Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets on Wednesday. He was recently released by the Astros after not making their Opening Day roster, although he was surprisingly effective in 2024. He slashed .234/.321/.386 with 13 home runs, 42 RBI, and 46 runs in 119 games. The slugger strikes out a lot but makes up for it with an excellent walk rate, posting an 11.6% walk rate last season that ranked in the 91st percentile. He could wind up on the Mets major league roster at some point this season as a bench bat or potential DH option.Source: New York Mets
4 hours agoSecond baseman Niko Goodrum signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets on Wednesday. He spent spring training with the Padres but didn't make the Opening Day roster, so now he'll give things a shot with the Mets. He only appeared in 13 games for the Angels and Rays in 2024, slashing a measly .103/.188/.103. He did enjoy some success in the KBO in 2023, batting .295 in 50 games, but hasn't been able to find his footing back in major league baseball. He'll provide depth as a utility man in the minors for the Mets but could find himself on the major league roster if injuries open up some spots.Source: New York Mets

4 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani collected three hits on Wednesday, including a walk-off home run, to elevate the Dodgers to a 6-5 victory over the Braves. The win brings Los Angeles to a league-leading 8-0 record, while it sent Atlanta spiraling down to 0-7 on the year. The homer was Ohtani's third of the season, and he is now batting .333 with three home runs, three RBI, 11 runs, and two stolen bases through eight games. He continues to show why he is one of the best players to ever step on the field and remains one of the best hitters in fantasy.Source: MLB.com

4 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen looked untouchable on Wednesday, striking out 13 batters over 6 ⅔ shutout innings in a 4-3 win against the Yankees. The Yankees and their torpedo bats have gained a lot of attention over the recent days, but the bats don't matter if they don't make contact. Gallen collected 24 whiffs on the night for a whiff rate of 57%. His knuckle curveball was the most effective of his pitches, collecting 13 whiffs all on its own. He'll look to carry this momentum into his next start, currently lined up to be against the Orioles.Source: MLB.com
5 hours agoAtlanta Braves shortstop prospect Luke Waddell continued his hot hitting to begin the year, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. The 26-year-old is now 9-for-20 (.450) through five games for the Stripers. The former fifth-round draft pick spent all of 2024 at Triple-A, slashing .235/.317/.322, but has always struck out at a better-than-average rate while walking at an above-average rate, registering at 13.1 percent and 11.8 percent respectively for his minor league career. The Georgia Tech product offers some speed as well, tallying as many as 29 steals in 2023. Perhaps this is the year he puts it all together, and with the Braves struggling for offense, maybe they shake things up and give the left-handed hitter a shot at some point. The 5-foot-7 infielder is not a stash candidate for fantasy, however.Source: MiLB.com

6 hours agoColorado Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber (shoulder) was scratched from his scheduled minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday night due to left-shoulder inflammation, according to general manager Bill Schmidt. It's bad news for a pitcher that began the 2025 season on the 15-day injured list with left-shoulder soreness that cropped up during spring training. Even if the 31-year-old southpaw isn't dealing with any structural damage in his left shoulder, this setback essentially assures that he won't make his season debut with the Rockies until some point in May. In his first rehab start with Albuquerque last Friday, Gomber went four innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out five. Gomber should remain on the waiver wire in most mixed fantasy leagues.Source: MLB.com - Thomas Harding
6 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was excellent on the mound during Wednesday's start against the Colorado Rockies. The right-hander had seemingly no issues outside of Hunter Goodman's solo blast in the seventh inning. Wheeler tossed seven innings, allowing three hits, and striking out 10 batters in the 5-1 victory. To be fair, Wheeler did have a favorable matchup against the lowly Rockies lineup. He did what he needed to do and showed why he is the ace of this staff. We'll see if Wheeler has the same amount of success against a much stronger Atlanta Braves lineup in his next start.Source: mlb.com
6 hours agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman finally received a save opportunity as the team looked to end their four-game losing streak on Wednesday. The veteran southpaw was called upon to hold a three-run lead against the Baltimore Orioles tough lineup. It didn't go perfect for Chapman as he did walk one batter, but he also struck out one hitter as well. He eventually earned his first save of the season and fantasy managers are hopeful for many more to come. The organization said coming into the season that Chapman would be the primary closer, but they also wouldn't be afraid to use him earlier in the game if needed. That being said, Chapman might not get all the save chances in Boston, but he's still worth rostering in most leagues where saves matter.Source: MLB.com
7 hours agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet showed that he earned every bit of that extension he received during Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. On Monday, Crochet signed a six-year, $170 million deal with Boston. It's already paying off for the Red Sox as Crochet tossed eight scoreless innings against the O's on Wednesday. The southpaw allowed four hits, one walk, and struck out eight batters in a strong outing against a tough lineup. His next outing will come against the Toronto Blue Jays, so we'll see if he can keep the good times rolling next Monday.Source: mlb.com
7 hours agoBoston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers has been in a horrible slump to begin the season. He was hitless coming into Wednesday's game. Devers also became the first player in MLB history to strike out at the plate 15 times over the first five games of the season. Devers finally delivered at the plate with a run-scoring double in the fifth inning. He'd finish his day with two hits and an RBI in what ended up being a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Devers is too talented at the plate to continue being in this slump for too long. Hopefully fantasy managers will get many more two-hit performances from Devers soon.Source: mlb.com
