4 months agoBud Cauley's return to the PGA Tour this year has been an uplifting story for golf fans, but fantasy managers should steer clear of him at the Wyndham Championship. The 34-year-old University of Alabama alum was unfortunately forced to take a three-plus year hiatus following various injuries stemming from a car accident in 2018, and he'll be making his 11th appearance since his comeback started in back in early February. In his previous 10 starts, Cauley has missed five cuts with zero top-20 finishes. In a more recent snapshot dating back to May, he's missed the cut in three out of his last five starts, with his other two results being a T52 and a T61. While Cauley did post a T15 in his last Wyndham Championship start in 2020, it's clear that the former Tour stalwart can't be trusted based on what we've seen from him during his remarkable comeback story.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoAlex Smalley finished T12 at the 3M Open two weeks ago and is now getting ready to tee it up at Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship this week. Smalley has made the cut in three straight events and is aiming to build on those previous performances. He has a good track record at the Wyndham Championship, with the exception of missing the cut in 2023. In 2022, he finished T13, and in 2021, he finished T29. It's worth noting that last year's Wyndham Championship saw over 39% of approach shots coming from 150-200 yards, and over the past 12 months, Smalley ranks in the 72nd percentile in proximity to the hole from approach shots 150-200 yards in the fairway. While Smalley has been playing well recently, including him in DFS lineups this week comes with some risk.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoCarson Young finished 71st at the 3M Open two weeks ago and will now focus on preparing for the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. This will be Young's second appearance at the Wyndham Championship, where he finished T67 in 2023. It's important to note that over the past 12 months, Young ranks in the 27th percentile in proximity to the hole from approach shots 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because at last year's Wyndham Championship over 39% of approach shots came from this distance. Young is worth considering for DFS lineups this week, but including him comes with some risk.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoDenny McCarthy is set to compete at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club this week after missing the cut at The Open Championship last month. Although his performance at the Wyndham Championship has been mixed, with missed cuts in 2023 and 2022 but finishes in the top 20 in 2021 and 2020, McCarthy has shown promise at Sedgefield Country Club. It's worth noting that he ranks in the 54th percentile in proximity to the hole from approach shots 150-200 yards in the fairway over the past 12 months, and over 39% of approach shots at last year's Wyndham Championship came from this distance. Despite his recent missed cut, McCarthy's past success at Sedgefield Country Club suggests he could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoIt was a long wait to get back into the winner's circle for Jhonattan Vegas before capturing the title at the 3M Open a few weeks ago. He was the most consistent player by far at TPC Twin Cities, but interestingly, the Venezuelan golfer didn't rank higher than 7th in any strokes gained statistics for the week. It will be important for him to maintain some level of that form to make a deep run in the playoffs, as he is currently 67th in the FedEx Cup race. His history at the Wyndham Championship has been feast or famine with more missed cuts than good finishes in six career starts. DFS players can lean into his recent form and current ranking of fifth in strokes gained off the tee (+0.706) and 13th in strokes gained on approach (0.530) for the season, but he is still far from a must-start at $9,800 on FanDuel.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoKeegan Bradley finished T46 at the 3M Open two weeks ago and is now gearing up to compete for the first time since 2017 at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Bradley has been performing exceptionally well this season, making the cut in nine of his last 10 tournaments, with one top-five and three top-20 finishes during that time. Notably, over the past 12 months, Bradley ranks in the 96th percentile in proximity to the hole for approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. At last year's Wyndham Championship, over 39% of approach shots came from this distance. Despite this, Bradley may be overlooked this week but could be a strong addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoChristiaan Bezuidenhout finished 16th at the Olympics last week and seems to have recovered from the injury that forced him to withdraw from the Genesis Scottish Open four weeks ago. He is now getting ready to play at Sedgefield Country Club for this week's Wyndham Championship. Bezuidenhout's best finish at the Wyndham Championship was T37 in 2020, and he has never missed the cut. It's worth noting that over the past 12 months, Bezuidenhout ranks in the 56th percentile in proximity to the hole for approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is important because over 39% of approach shots at last year's Wyndham Championship came from this distance. Bezuidenhout has been consistently performing well this year, and given his track record at the Wyndham Championship, he's worth considering for DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoMichael Kim missed the cut at the 3M Open two weeks ago and is now focusing on preparing for the Wyndham Championship. This event has brought him mixed results in the past. Kim tied for fifth at last year's Wyndham Championship, finished T65 in 2021, and missed the cut in 2020. Notably, over 39% of approach shots at last year's Wyndham Championship came from 150-200 yards. Over the past 12 months, Kim has ranked in the 90th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots in the fairway from this distance. Although Kim has struggled for consistency this year, his track record at Sedgefield Country Club makes him worth considering for DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoCam Davis has his game moving in the right direction since his surprise win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in late June. The Australian has gained a combined 25 strokes from tee-to-green over his past three events, including one in Scotland and one in Minnesota. Davis took a week off, and will now head to Sedgefield Country Club for his fourth career appearance at the Wyndham Championship. The 29-year-old has placed T7, T15, and T22 in those three previous events, and he's gained a combined 11.7 strokes with the putter. As long as the rainy forecast doesn't throw Davis for a loop, he's set to combine fantastic form with a track at which he's always putt very well. He could find himself in the mix for another win come Sunday at $8,900 on DraftKings.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoAkshay Bhatia is 0-for-3 when it comes to making the cut at the Wyndham Championship in his career. The 22-year-old has never gained strokes with his irons or his putter in his three trips to Greensboro, NC, but perhaps his jump in form this year is what he needed to get over the Sedgefield Country Club hump. Bhatia surprisingly struggled off-the-tee in Minnesota a couple of weeks ago, but he'd gained strokes in seven events leading up to that aberration, so one might imagine he'll be back on track following a week off from competition. The California native will look to add a fourth top-5 finish to his 2024 resume as he prepares for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and he'll do so with a DraftKings price tag of $9,100 this week.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoAdam Svensson will head to Sedgefield Country Club for the third time in his career, having made the cut all three times, including a T7 finish while gaining 5.4 strokes with his putter in 2023. Strokes gained on the greens would be a nice addition to his game this week, as the 30-year-old has lost strokes with his flat stick in eight of his last 10 events on tour. That being said, Svensson has been fantastic off the tee, has been much improved with his chipping, and has been hit-or-miss with his irons. If the Canadian can find a strong putting performance in Greensboro to go with the rest of his recent play, he could easily pay off his $7,400 price tag on DraftKings this week.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoFollowing appearances at the Genesis, The Open, and last week at The Olympics, Min Woo Lee will return back to the United States for his debut at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC. The Australian was not able to bring his recent success over the pond, as he followed up a runner-up finish at the Rocket Mortgage with a T73 and a missed cut in his two Scotland events. Lee bounced back nicely over the weekend to place T22 in Paris, but one has to wonder if he'll be in top shape following another long week of travel and adjustment. The 26-year-old has found success recently at scorer's tracks similar to Sedgefield Country Club, but it's asking a lot considering Lee's inflated $9,000 price tag on DraftKings.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoJ.T. Poston missed the cut at the 3M Open to end July, following a similar result at The Open the week before that. Recent woes with his driver and irons have led to inconsistent play, resulting in just two top-10 finishes since mid-January. While his putter has remained strong, the 31-year-old will need to turn around his tee-to-green performance in a hurry if he wants to make a run in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Following his win at the Wyndham Championship in 2019, Poston has gone missed cut, missed cut, T21, and T7 in his last four appearances. If the North Carolina native can carry over his approach success from 2023, he may be able to pay off a reasonable price tag on DraftKings ($7,900) this week in Greensboro.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoSi Woo Kim ranks 36th in the FedEx Cup Standings. The South Korean golfer is getting ready this week in North Carolina. Kim has only missed one cut all season (PGA Championship). He has been remarkably consistent in that aspect. Kim only has one Top 10 (The Players Championship), however. Something has always kind of gone a little off. At The Open Championship, Kim shot an opening round 76, recovered, then fired a 74 on Sunday. That is the kind of 2024 it has been. A big reason might be his putting which ranks 150th with -0.355 strokes gained. His putting average of 1.753 only ranks 70th and is another reason why Kim does not have better results.Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoAndrew Putnam comes into the Wyndham Championship ranked 73rd in the FedEx Cup Standings. 71st will qualify the American golfer into the playoffs. So, this regular season finale at Greensboro has a bit more meaning than usual. Putnam bounced back with a Top 20 (T-19th) at the 3M Open. This was after missing two straight cuts. If not for a Saturday 75, Putnam likely would have been inside the Top 10. That is encouraging heading into this week where a good result is needed. A lack of driving distance (281.5 yards) should not impact Putnam as much. He will need to be accurate (25th - 66.93%) and make putts early. Source: PGATour.com
