2 months agoIndianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) said he's still dealing with his ankle sprain and isn't likely to practice for the second straight day on Thursday. It's not a serious injury, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around his availability for Sunday's contest against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Two DNPs in a row is bad news for Taylor's fantasy managers leading into Week 5. If the 25-year-old is unable to get back on the practice field by Friday, he seems unlikely to be ready to play against the Jaguars this weekend. The good news, though, is that Taylor's ankle injury doesn't appear to be a multi-week issue, and it's definitely not as severe as the ankle issue that he dealt with in 2022. Taylor's injury has made Trey Sermon a popular waiver-wire pickup this week, as he'll operate as Indy's lead back on Sunday if Taylor is inactive.Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder
2 months agoUpdating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (abdomen, oblique) was officially limited in Wednesday's practice. Richardson said he wasn't going to practice earlier on Wednesday, but he was just referencing the team portions of practice. Head coach Shane Steichen said Richardson wouldn't necessarily need to practice in order to play in Week 5 against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The fact that the 22-year-old is practicing at all in the first session of the week is good news for his status this weekend. The second-year signal-caller was injured in the Week 4 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and had veteran Joe Flacco replace him. After a tough start to his second year in the NFL in 2024, including a league-high six picks, the dual-threat QB has fallen to fringe QB1/2 territory. The good news is he has a great matchup on tap if he's cleared to play in Week 5.Source: Indianapolis Colts
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (abdomen, oblique) is feeling much better on Wednesday but will be held out of the first practice of the week. Head coach Shane Steichen said that Richardson could still play in Week 5 against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars even if he doesn't practice at all this week. Richardson left the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with what was initially called a hip pointer and was replaced by veteran Joe Flacco, who finished off the victory. The 22-year-old's injury doesn't appear to be too serious, so fantasy managers should expect him to be able to play this coming Sunday if he's able to return to practice on either Thursday or Friday. In four weeks in 2024, Richardson has been a disappointment for fantasy managers with a league-high six interceptions and a 50.6 completion percentage. The good news is he has a nice bounce-back matchup against the Jags' porous defense this week if he's able to play.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) will not practice on Wednesday. Taylor suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, although his high-ankle sprain is considered relatively mild. Still, Taylor's status for the Week 5 contest this Sunday versus the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars is firmly up in the air, which has made backup Trey Sermon a popular speculative waiver-wire pickup this week. The 25-year-old Taylor has two more days to get back on the practice field, but as of right now, fantasy managers need to have a backup plan in place in case he doesn't get the green light to suit up. In addition to Sermon, Tyler Goodson would also have an elevated role in Indy's backfield if Taylor cannot play in Week 5. The good news is that Taylor's injury doesn't appear serious enough to land him on Injured Reserve, which would keep him out for at least four games.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter expressed his confidence in rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, saying, "It just hasn't quite happened yet." Mitchell has been good in one-on-one situations, according to Cooter, and he still expects big plays to come for the rookie receiver. Mitchell has just two receptions for 32 yards on the season on 13 targets. With Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs all in the mix now, Mitchell will be reliant on his big-play ability and will have to convert on a better percentage of his targets in order to be fantasy relevant. It might take time for the rookie to find himself in this offense, so he could be an option by the end of the season. But right now, he is not worth rostering until he shows more.Source: Coachspeak Index

2 months agoIndianapolis Colts defensive end Tyquan Lewis (elbow) is being placed on Injured Reserve, according to NFL.com. Lewis is dealing with an elbow injury, but the ailment is not considered to be season-ending. The 2018 second-round pick out of Ohio State has spent his entire seven-year career with the Colts and has racked up 112 total tackles, 15 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, 10 pass deflections, and 27 run stuffs in 69 career games. His earliest return date is Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, as a trip on the IR requires players to sit out at least four contests.Source: NFL.com
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (abdomen, oblique) is considered day-to-day with oblique and abdominal strains that he suffered in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and has a shot to play in Week 5 against the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars, according to sources. Richardson underwent tests on Monday and it appears he dodged a bullet. We'll have a better idea of the 22-year-old's status once the Colts resume practicing on Wednesday. The former fourth overall pick in 2023 has been a disappointment through four weeks, completing just 50.6% of his passes for 654 yards, three touchdowns and a league-high six interceptions. He's added 21 carries for 141 yards and a score on the ground. Richardson will have a chance to rebound against the winless Jags if he's cleared to play. If he cannot play, veteran Joe Flacco, who took over for Richardson on Sunday, would get the starting nod.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that the team is not considering placing running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) on short-term Injured Reserve after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. High-ankle sprains can keep players out for up to a month, but Taylor apparently suffered a "mild" high-ankle sprain on Sunday. If the 25-year-old went on IR, he'd have to miss at least four games. It's good news overall for the Colts and JT's fantasy managers, but it doesn't mean he won't miss time, starting with the Week 5 contest this weekend against the winless Jacksonville Jaguars. We'll have a better idea about his status later this week, but fantasy managers should be formulating backup plans now in case he cannot play in Week 5. Trey Sermon would become the starter in the backfield if Taylor misses any time, with Tyler Goodson also seeing an elevated role for Indy.Source: FOX 59 - Mike Chappell
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce caught one of his two targets for nine yards in the team's 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. This comes after a string of productive games by the third-year receiver that eventually came to a stop in today's matchup. Despite the low production, Pierce has remained a mainstay in the receiving rotation, playing just three fewer snaps than Michael Pittman Jr. and running just one less route. Given the snap share, Pierce remains a rosterable option in most formats. That being said, he is likely no more than a WR4/5 option in the team's Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.Source: ESPN
2 months agoIndianapolis Colts tight end Drew Ogletree caught his only target of the day for a 15-yard touchdown in the team's 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ogletree caught the pass from QB Joe Flacco in the fourth quarter to help seal the win for Indianapolis. The touchdown grab made for Ogletree's second catch of the season over the span of four games. The Colts offense has not featured a tight end this season, and Ogletree ran fewer routes than tight ends Mo Alie-Cox, Kylen Granson, and Will Mallory in the matchup. Given the incredibly low usage, Ogletree is off the fantasy radar in Week 5 when the Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars.Source: ESPN

2 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco completed 16 of his 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the team's 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Flacco was put into the game in the first quarter after starting QB Anthony Richardson (hip) was ruled out due to injury. Flacco was productive in the game, finding Josh Downs for a four-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter and then hitting tight end Alec Ogletree on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to help put it away for Indy. Recent reports suggest that Richardson is unlikely to miss additional time, likely putting Flacco back on the bench in the team's Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Richardson fantasy managers, or managers who regularly stream QBs should keep a close eye on the situation in the coming days if Richardson is a no go in Week 5.Source: ESPN
