3 days agoFormer University of Michigan tight end Colston Loveland has taken a backseat to former Penn State tight end prospect Tyler Warren during offseason NFL Draft buzz, but the former College Football Playoff National Champion is expected to be a first-round pick, and NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports he could go in the 10-22 overall range. "A f---ing awesome football player man," an NFL college scouting director told Schultz. "Does it all. Day 1 mismatch, Day 1 star." Over his final two collegiate seasons, Loveland caught 101 passes for 1,231 yards and nine touchdowns despite playing in a run-heavy offense. While most tight ends take time to develop in the NFL, we've seen Sam LaPorta and Brock Bowers deliver TE1 campaigns as rookies. If Loveland lands in the right offense, he could have immediate fantasy football upside.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Jordan Schultz

3 days agoThe Boston Red Sox placed third baseman Alex Bregman on the paternity list on Wednesday and recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Bregman put on a show in Tuesday's win over the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, going 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI and two runs scored, but now he'll miss the series finale in Tampa and potentially the entire weekend series against the Chicago White Sox. The 31-year-old two-time All-Star has so far enjoyed his time in Beantown, as he's slashing .321/.365/.564 with a .929 OPS, four home runs, a league-high seven doubles, a league-high 25 hits, 16 RBI, a stolen base and 10 runs scored in a league-high 78 at-bats. With Bregman out of the lineup on Thursday against the Rays, Romy Gonzalez will fill in at the hot corner and bat fifth against right-hander Zack Littell.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Boston Red Sox

3 days agoFormer Texas wide receiver and 2025 NFL Draft prospect Isaiah Bond, who surrendered on a sexual assault warrant last week before posting bond and being released, is filing a complaint against his accuser. The 21-year-old's agent, Damien Butler, released a statement on Wednesday calling the allegations false. "Earlier this evening, Isaiah's attorneys at Nesenhoff & Miltenberg, LLP filed the attached complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in response to the false allegation of sexual assault and defamatory statements made against him. Unlike the false narrative that has been amplified, the truth, once revealed in its entirety, will show that he was targeted by a woman eight years his senior, relentlessly pursued, enticed by explicit photos & videos and ultimately setup for financial gain." Needless to say, this is a situation worth monitoring with just eight days to go before the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off. Bond caught 54 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season at Texas after transferring from Alabama.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Ian Rapoport

3 days agoThe Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran backup quarterback Logan Woodside to a one-year deal, according to NFL.com. The 30-year-old was signed by the Bengals last offseason and spent most of the 2024 campaign on the practice squad. Woodside, a former seventh-round pick by the Bengals out of Toledo, has completed four of his seven career passing attempts for 34 yards and one interception in 12 games with the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons. At best, he'll likely stick around on the practice squad once again in 2025, but he could face an uphill battle to make the roster in any form.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: NFL.com

3 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw (knee, toe) had a positive first minor-league rehab start on Wednesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, throwing three scoreless innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out two. The 37-year-old former MVP and three-time Cy Young winner threw 22 of his 30 pitches for strikes but only topped out at 88.8 mph with his four-seam fastball. Kershaw has plenty of time to build his velocity back up, though, as he's not eligible to come off the 60-day injured list until May 17. The Dodgers are going to take their time with the future Hall of Famer, which means he might not even be allowed to rejoin their big-league starting rotation by May 17. While Kershaw can still have solid outings, he has become much more of a fantasy dice roll and is likely to have his innings heavily managed when he eventually returns.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Milb.com

3 days agoThe New York Giants are holding private workouts for top quarterback prospects Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe, and Tyler Shough, which suggests the team is interested in adding a late-Round 1 or early-Round 2 rookie signal-caller in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, general manager Joe Schoen says the Giants "don't think it's mandatory" to take a quarterback after the additions of veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. The organization is clearly doing late-process homework on the QBs who could slip into the back half of Round 1 or later, so their plans after the No. 3 overall pick remain a mystery. Wilson and Winston could provide better quarterback play than New York has seen since Eli Manning, but neither is a long-term solution for a head coach and general manager running out of time to rack up wins.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Jordan Raanan

3 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber is making the start in left field and will bat third for the Phillies on Wednesday against the visiting San Francisco Giants and left-hander Robbie Ray at Citizens Bank Park. Schwarber made only five starts in the outfield last year, and this will be his first start in the outfield in 2025. The 32-year-old left-handed slugger has had a strong start to his fourth season in Philadelphia, as he enters Wednesday's contest slashing .267/.421/.617 with a 1.038 OPS, a league-leading six home runs, a double, triple, 12 RBI, a stolen base and 15 runs scored in his first 17 games played. Fantasy managers shouldn't be getting their hopes up that Schwarbs will suddenly regain outfield eligibility this year. In DFS contests, fantasy managers will probably want to avoid the power threat against a tough lefty. Schwarber is hitless in four career at-bats against Ray.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoLos Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (shoulder) went 2-for-5 with his fourth home run at Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday night while playing the whole game at shortstop. Neto is scheduled to play another full game at the 6 on Wednesday and could then be activated from the 10-day injured list as early as Thursday. However, the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher wouldn't be surprised if the Angels wait to bring Neto back until next Tuesday. The Halos wrap up their series in Texas against the division-rival Rangers on Thursday before heading home on Friday for a weekend series against the San Francisco Giants. At the latest, he'll make his season debut on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The former first-rounder has gone 13-for-45 (.289) in his 12 rehab games with the Bees and will be the Angels' starting shortstop when he's ready after hitting 23 homers and stealing 30 bases in 2024. UPDATE: Manager Ron Washington said the team hasn't discussed when Neto will return just yet.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Orange County Register - Jeff Fletcher

3 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said "we're on pace for Masyn Winn (back) to be activated on Tuesday." Winn will stay in St. Louis this weekend to continue his rehab work on his injured back and could return on Tuesday during the series against the Atlanta Braves. Marmol said the 23-year-old is progressing to hitting in the batting cages and playing catch. The first day that Winn is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list is next Tuesday. In the meantime, the Cardinals will continue to roll with young infielder Thomas Saggese as their starting shortstop. When Winn is able to return next week, fantasy managers will be hoping that he can start producing more at the plate, as he's started off 2025 with a .222/.314/.289 slash line with a homer, three RBI and eight runs scored. Winn will have a lower fantasy ceiling and floor as long as he remains at the bottom of St. Louis' batting order.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - John Denton

3 days agoChicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly (hand) is back behind the dish to catch left-hander Matthew Boyd in Wednesday's series finale against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Kelly will hit eighth in the batting order against Padres right-hander Nick Pivetta after missing the first two games of the series in SD due to a left-hander injury that he suffered when he was hit by a pitch on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Kelly returning, Miguel Amaya will head to the bench. The 30-year-old veteran has had a phenomenal start to his first season with the Cubbies, going 10-for-24 (.417) with four home runs and 13 RBI in nine games played. Kelly isn't going to be this good all year long as he shares playing time with Amaya, but fantasy managers are riding his hot streak early on. He has two hits and an RBI in just four career at-bats against Pivetta.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoThe Washington Nationals are promoting infielder Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester. In a corresponding move, the Nationals are placing infielder Paul DeJong (nose) on the 10-day injured list. Lipscomb made his MLB debut last summer and posted a .200/.268/.232 slash line across 61 games. He only hit one long ball, but carried decent fantasy value given his speed production. Across this stint, he swiped 11 bags. During the early part of the Triple-A regular season, Lipscomb enjoyed a strong start, as he held a .295/.392/.386 line across 13 games. He tallied 13 total hits, swiped two bags, and held a 7:13 BB:K. Fantasy managers should expect Lipscomb to see time at shortstop while DeJong is sidelined. He is worth adding in deeper category formats when looking for speed upside.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Bobby Blanco

3 days agoNew York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (wrist) is "fine" after being hit by a pitch during Tuesday's rehab outing. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza noted that the young backstop will continue his rehab assignment with Double-A on Wednesday evening and is slated to be behind the dish. This is an excellent sign as the 23-year-old was removed from Tuesday's contest after the HBP. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his progress as he could be in the mix to return to the majors sometime next week, if he continues progressing well in his rehab outing. Last summer, Alvarez held a .237/.307/.403 slash line across 100 contests. However, during the 2023 season, Alvarez posted a promising .437 SLG with 25 long balls across 123 contests. When he is cleared to return, he should be viewed as a low-end No. 1 catcher.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: SNY

3 days agoBaltimore Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon when they continue a series against the Cleveland Guardians. Westburg was dealing with a minor upper-body injury last week and could be held out of the lineup for a maintenance day. As a result, Ramon Urias will cover the hot corner and bat in the nine-hole. Westburg enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, posting a stellar .297/.350/.541 slash line with three home runs across his first nine games. However, the Mississippi State product has gone 0-for-19 over his previous five contests with a modest 2:8 BB:K. Fantasy managers should expect Westburg to return to the starting nine on Thursday. Urias is worth a look as a value play in DFS facing Cleveland right-hander Gavin Williams.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoWashington Nationals infielder CJ Abrams (hip) was able to run on the field prior to Tuesday's contest. Abrams was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hip flexor strain on April 12 but appears to already be making significant progress. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he could be activated on his earliest return date, April 22. Before his injury, the 24-year-old flashed his power upside as he held a .244/.289/.585 slash line with two doubles and four long balls across just 11 games. During this stretch, Abrams swiped four bags and scored six runs. Fantasy managers should expect the former top prospect to return to his typical spot at the top of the lineup when he is cleared to return. While he is out, Amed Rosario, Trey Lipscomb, and Nasim Nunez should continue to share time at shortstop.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Mark Zuckerman

3 days agoChicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (wrist) is returning to the starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon when they play the final game of a three-game set against the San Diego Padres. Suzuki has been kept out of the lineup over the past three days due to a wrist injury. However, the 30-year-old was able to avoid a lengthy absence. On Wednesday, he will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the three-hole. He has enjoyed a productive start to the campaign, holding a strong .292/.390/.538 slash line with two doubles and four home runs across 17 contests. He has tallied 11 runs, 15 RBI, and held an 11:23 BB:K. Under the hood, he has generated an impressive 14.0 percent barrel rate and a 48.8 percent hard-hit rate, which are both well above the average marks. He should be started in all formats, but it is best to fade in DFS facing San Diego right-hander Nick Pivetta, who enters Wednesday boasting a 1.59 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoThe Washington Nationals have placed shortstop Paul DeJong (nose) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured nose. In a corresponding move, the Nationals promoted infielder Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester. DeJong suffered this injury during their victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday evening. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status while he is sidelined, but should not expect him to miss too much time. Through the first 16 games of the campaign, the 31-year-old infielder posted a .204/.246/.278 slash line with four doubles and a 2:24 BB:K. Under the hood, DeJong has generated a low .220 xwOBA with a .258 xSLG, which are both well below the average marks. While he is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Lipscomb to see several opportunities in the infield. He will have value in deeper formats given his speed upside.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Bobby Blanco

3 days agoTexas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Stewart visited with the Chicago Bears on Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The Bears definitely need help with their pass rush despite adding Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency to pair with Montez Sweat. The Bears hold the 10th overall pick in the first round of next week's NFL draft, but Stewart could be in play later in the round if they trade back. The 21-year-old's physical attributes jump off the page, but his production with the Aggies didn't exactly match up, as Stewart had only 31 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two pass breakups in 12 games last year at Texas A&M. He wasn't a full-time starter until last year, but he has been rising up draft boards since a dominating performance at the Senior Bowl. Among others, he's also visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

3 days agoSeveral NFL teams told FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz that Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord is one of the more undervalued players in the entire 2025 NFL draft. McCord visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday and with the New York Giants on Tuesday, according to sources. The 22-year-old led the nation in passing in 2024 and has acquitted himself well throughout the draft process with good interviews and impressive on-the-board work. McCord has prototypical NFL size, a winning pedigree and capacity to read coverage. He's currently being considered a sleeper in what is a weak draft class at the quarterback position in 2025. Both the Steelers and Giants are two of the most QB-needy teams in terms of long-term investments, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see either of them go after McCord on Day 2 or 3 of this year's draft.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: FOX Sports - Jordan Schultz

3 days agoThe Athletic's Dianna Russini says that the quarterback she's heard being discussed in NFL circles more than anyone else lately is University of Louisville QB Tyler Shough. Because of his rising draft stock and the fact that there are plenty of teams desperate for a franchise signal-caller, there is a chance that the 25-year-old QB is taken in the first round next Thursday night. Russini said an NFL head coach told her that he believes Shough is the best quarterback prospect in this year's draft class, including Miami's Cam Ward. Shough is old for a rookie QB, but his experience (seven years in college) certainly could give him the leg up in terms of being pro-ready the fastest in a QB draft class that is considered pretty weak. In his final season at Louisville, Shough threw for 3,200 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. Don't be surprised if a team trades back into the back half of the first round to select him next week.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Dianna Russini

3 days agoThe Denver Broncos are visiting with Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson on Wednesday, according to 9 News' Mike Klis. Many mock drafters think that Henderson would be an ideal fit for head coach Sean Payton's offensive system as both a rushing and receiving threat out of the backfield. Henderson had two 1,000-plus rushing yard and 27-catch seasons with the Buckeyes, and the Broncos are certainly looking to bolster what was a below-average rushing attack last year, especially after Javonte Williams departed in free agency. On Tuesday, Henderson visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who pick one slot after the Broncos in next week's NFL draft at No. 21. Henderson excels in pass protection as well, which is something most NFL teams put a ton of value in, especially for young backs. If Denver takes the 22-year-old in the first round, he'd likely lead the backfield in touches in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: 9 News - Mike Klis

3 days agoHouston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez is not in the team's starting lineup with a left-hander on the mound in Wednesday's series finale versus the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Jose Altuve will serve as the DH while hitting leadoff, and Chas McCormick draws into left field while batting ninth against Cardinals southpaw Steven Matz. Alvarez hit his second home run of the season in Tuesday's win over St. Louis, but he's hitting an uncharacteristic .224 (13-for-58) with two doubles, 10 RBI, a steal, 11 walks and 15 strikeouts in his first 17 games. It's still way too early to panic with the three-time All-Star. Altuve, meanwhile, continues to hit .300 with three homers, seven RBI, 10 runs and three steals after moving permanently to left field. Both he and McCormick have homered in their careers off Matz, although McCormick is a lackluster DFS play in the nine-hole on Wednesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter is getting a day of rest with a left-hander on the mound in Wednesday's series finale versus the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. Justyn-Henry Malloy is in right field and will bat leadoff, while second baseman Gleyber Torres is the designated hitter and batting second against Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana. Andy Ibanez is at second base and in the three-hole. Carpenter has gone 3-for-15 against lefties so far this year, but two of those hits cleared the fences. Overall, the 27-year-old has been a great source of power for fantasy managers in the early going with five home runs and 10 RBI in 17 games. Malloy has zero homers and has gone 7-for-34 (.206) this year, but he's worth a look as a DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot. Torres has a solo home run and is batting .571 in seven career at-bats against Quintana.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoSlumping New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos will retreat to the bench for Wednesday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Brett Baty will take over at third base and will bat eighth against Twins right-hander David Festa. This will be Vientos' first day off of the season. After a breakout 2024 season in which he hit .266/.322/.516 with an .837 OPS, 27 home runs and 71 RBI in 111 games played, the 25-year-old has started off cold in 2025, going 9-for-62 (.145) with no home runs, four doubles, four RBI, nine walks and 14 strikeouts in 17 games. It will be more concerning if his slow start to the year drags into May, but hopefully this day off will get Vientos right. Baty hasn't been any better, going 5-for-36 (.139) with no homers and just one RBI early on for the Mets. The former first-rounder has never faced Festa in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 days agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez (hamstring) threw a successful bullpen session on Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Lopez will now wait to see how his hamstring responds on Thursday. The 29-year-old Venezuelan hurler is currently on the 15-day injured list with a right-hamstring injury, but if he continues to progress at this pace, he could be ready to rejoin Minnesota's starting rotation when he's eligible on April 24. He was looking good in his first three starts of the year before getting injured, going 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA (3.26 FIP) and 1.02 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and only two walks in 16 2/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. If Lopez is for some reason available on your league's waiver wire, scoop him up immediately. Right-hander David Festa has been filling in for Lopez in the Twins' rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic - Dan Hayes

3 days agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the New York Mets at Target Field. It shouldn't come as a big surprise after Correa injured his left wrist on a swing in the fifth inning of Tuesday's win over the Mets. Expect the 30-year-old to undergo testing on his injured wrist, at which point we'll have a better idea of the severity of his injury. Minnesota has a day off on Thursday before starting a new series on Friday in Atlanta against the Braves. Fantasy managers will want to check back then on Correa's status. On Wednesday, Willi Castro will make the start at shortstop and bat seventh, while Brooks Lee is at the hot corner and is hitting sixth against Mets right-hander Huascar Brazoban. Both Lee and Castro are each hitless in their only career at-bats against Brazoban. UPDATE: Manager Rocco Baldelli said that Correa could be available off the bench on Wednesday.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
