2 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) is expected to remain out for this week's action. The Oilers begin a three-game slate on Wednesday against the Dallas Stars. Edmonton has already been without Draisaitl for two games as the German superstar battles an undisclosed injury. Connor McDavid (lower body) joined Draisaitl on the shelf at the weekend, making Ryan Nugent-Hopkins the team's new first-line center. The absence of the star duo also gave Adam Henrique an opportunity to work as the second-line center on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken, where he opened the scoring on a power play in an eventual 5-4 victory for the Oilers.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid (lower body) is not expected to return to the lineup this week. After missing Saturday's matchup against the Seattle Kraken, McDavid will likely sit out at least three more games. With Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) also unavailable, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins shined as the top-line center in Saturday's game, netting his fourth career hat trick in a 5-4 win. This marks Nugent-Hopkins' third three-point performance in the last four games. He will continue to have additional fantasy value until McDavid and Draisaitl return.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoMinnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin (lower body) will not play on Monday evening against the Dallas Stars. Brodin was able to return to the starting lineup on Saturday after missing the previous nine games but will revert back to the press box. However, it appears the team is managing his workload as he is currently viewed as "day-to-day" and has not suffered any setbacks. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Tuesday evening against the Vegas Golden Knights. With Brodin sitting out, fantasy managers should expect Declan Chisholm to join the starting lineup and play on the bottom pairing alongside Zach Bogosian. Through 39 games this season, Brodin has tallied 19 points with 20 hits and an impressive 81 blocked shots.Source: Minnesota Wild
2 weeks agoDallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger will get the starting nod on Monday evening against the Minnesota Wild. Oettinger received the starting nod in their previous contest and picked up the victory as he stopped 22 of the 24 shots he saw against the Philadelphia Flyers. This evening, he will face a tougher task against the Minnesota Wild, who currently occupy one of the wild cards in the Western Conference. Over his past five contests, Oettinger has struggled to find consistency as he has posted a modest 3.59 GAA with a .865 save percentage and a 2-2-1 record. However, before this stretch, Oettinger held a strong 4-1 record with a .910 save percentage with a 2.99 GAA. DFS managers should consider starting Oettinger this evening, as the Wild have scored the ninth-fewest goals per game this season.Source: Bruce LeVine
2 weeks agoMontreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle (quadriceps) will travel with the team on their upcoming road trip. Guhle has been sidelined since the end of January due to this injury. However, it appears the 23-year-old is nearing a return to action. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Tuesday evening in St. Louis. If Guhle cannot suit up in this contest, he could return on Friday evening when the Canadiens travel to Philadelphia to face the Flyers. Through 44 total contests this season, the former 16th-overall selection from the 2020 NHL Draft has found the back of the net four times and added 10 helpers. However, Guhle carries high fantasy value in category leagues as he logged 67 hits (1.5 per game) and 100 blocked shots (2.3 per game).Source: Montreal Canadiens
2 weeks agoWashington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun (hand) suffered a laceration from a skate on his hand during Saturday's contest. Head coach Spencer Carbery said he was "lucky," but it was still a "significant" cut. He will travel with the team to Winnipeg for Tuesday's contest but may not suit up. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during Tuesday's morning skate, as it will likely provide clarity on his status. Over his last eight contests, Chychrun has tallied four points (one goal) with 23 shots on goal, seven hits, and six blocked shots. Through 65 contests this season, the 26-year-old has tallied 43 points, with 14 of them coming on the power play. If Chychrun were to sit out on Tuesday, Alexander Alexeyev would likely enter the starting lineup.Source: Bailey Johnson
2 weeks agoNew York Islanders right wing Hudson Fasching (illness) will not suit up on Monday evening against the Columbus Blue Jackets due to an illness. As a result, Adam Boqvist (upper body) will return to the starting lineup and likely play on the third offensive line alongside Casey Cizikas and Pierre Engvall. Over his previous three contests, Fasching tallied one point and added seven shots on goal with two hits and three blocked shots. However, before this stretch, Fasching tallied just one helper over his previous nine contests with just seven total shots on goal. Through 31 total games this season, Fasching has seen his offensive production decline significantly, as he has not scored a goal and only added two helpers. Last season, he tallied 14 points in 45 games. Boqvist is a high-risk play in DFS competitions this evening.Source: Andrew Gross
2 weeks agoColumbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jake Christiansen (upper body) will remain sidelined on Monday evening when the Blue Jackets face the New York Islanders. Christiansen has missed the previous four contests due to this injury. As a result, Erik Gudbranson (shoulder) will take his spot in the starting lineup on the bottom defensive pairing. Before his injury, Christiansen was riding a six-game scoreless streak. During this streak, Christiansen logged just six hits with three blocks and a +2 rating. Through 65 total contests this season, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net just once and added seven helpers. Christiansen has also added 47 hits with 64 blocked shots. When he does return, he will not carry much fantasy value, given his lack of scoring upside.Source: Jeff Svoboda
2 weeks agoLos Angeles Kings center Quinton Byfield tallied two points for his second-straight contest on Sunday evening against the Boston Bruins. In the second period, Byfield would add the secondary assist on Drew Doughty's third goal of the campaign. Later in the third, Byfield would find the back of the net on a wrist shot during even-strength play. Byfield is currently riding a two-game goal-scoring streak. Over his previous 10 contests, Byfield has been one of the most productive forwards in the league, as he has found the back of the net eight times over this stretch. During this 10-game span, he has also added two helpers and logged 21 shots on goal with 16 hits. Through 69 games this season, Byfield has scored 19 goals and is just one away from matching his previous career high. The 22-year-old remains a strong play in DFS as he continues this productive stretch.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoCarolina Hurricanes left wing Taylor Hall posted his sixth career hat trick during their 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday evening. Hall would do all of his damage in the final period. He first found the back of the net on the power play. Later in the frame, he would add his second goal during 5-on-5 play and would cap off his evening with the empty-netter. He logged just three shots on goal and did not add a hit or a blocked shot. Over his last eight games, Hall has begun to turn the corner as he has only been held off the scoresheet twice. During this stretch, the 33-year-old has scored five goals and added four helpers with two of his goals coming on the power play. Given his role on the second offensive line and top power-play unit, he remains a solid option in all standard formats.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoVegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo tallied two helpers during their 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday evening. In the opening frame, Pietrangelo would tally the secondary assist on Nicholas Roy's power-play goal. Later in the third, Pietrangelo would add the primary assist on Nicholas Hague's empty-netter, which put the game out of reach. This outing extended his point streak to three games. During this stretch, he has tallied four helpers. Over his last six contests, Pietrangelo has only been held off the scoresheet once and added nine blocked shots with a stellar +7 rating. Through 67 total games this campaign, the 35-year-old has found the back of the net four times and added 28 helpers. Pietrangelo also carries value in leagues that reward blocks, as he has averaged 1.9 blocked shots per game this season.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoSt. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 31 of the 32 shots he saw en route to defeating the Nashville Predators on Sunday evening. The Predators dominated the shot total, but Binnington was able to stand tall. His lone blemish came in the second frame when Nashville left-wing Filip Forsberg found the back of the net on the power play for his 28th goal of the campaign. This outing also extended Binnington's winning streak to three games. During this stretch, the 31-year-old has posted a solid .920 save percentage with a strong 1.20 GAA. Over his previous 10 games, Binnington has held an 8-2 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.32 GAA. He has allowed two or fewer goals six times in this stretch. He remains a solid option in all standard leagues as he looks to stay hot on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoFlorida Panthers right wing Sam Reinhart found the back of the net twice during their shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday evening. Reinhart would open the scoring in the first period as he beat Tristan Jarry on a snapshot. Later in the second, Reinhart would find the back of the net again, this time on the power play. In this contest, he logged five total shots on goal with one hit. Over his last nine contests, the 29-year-old has scored four goals and added seven helpers, with seven of his total points coming on the power play. During this stretch, he logged 26 total shots on goal with 15 hits and six blocked shots. Through 71 total games, Reinhart has scored 35 goals and added 40 helpers. He remains an elite winger playing on the top offensive unit in Florida.Source: NHL.com
2 weeks agoVegas Golden Knights center Tomas Hertl (arm) is being evaluated after exiting Sunday's contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning early. Hertl suffered this injury during the final frame after being hit hard on the boards. As he was exiting the game, he was grabbing his arm in pain. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next contest on Tuesday evening against the Minnesota Wild. Before exiting, Hertl found the back of the net to extend his goal-scoring streak to two games. During his previous contest, Hertl posted a hat trick. Over his previous 12 contests, the 31-year-old has found the back of the net nine times and added six helpers. If Hertl were to miss time, fantasy managers should expect William Karlsson to move up to the second offensive line.Source: Danny Webster
2 weeks agoVancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (lower body) practiced at full capacity on Sunday. This was his first full practice session since Demko suffered a lower-body injury six weeks ago. On Thursday, it was reported that Demko would return to the lineup as Kevin Lankinen's backup against the St. Louis Blues, but he has remained sidelined. There is still no timetable for Demko's return, but he appears to be nearing his comeback. Demko has battled three separate health issues this season, which has limited him to only 17 starts. He holds a 6-6-3 record with a 2.87 goals-against average, a .891 save percentage, and one shutout.Source: NHL.com
