Clarke Schmidt Allows Three Runs In Season Debut
2 days agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt took the mound for the first time this season for a matchup against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. It wasn't a great start from Schmidt, but he got the job done. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, three earned runs, and striking out two batters in the no-decision. The Yankees didn't push him too hard in this one as Schmidt only threw 73 pitches during this outing. He missed the first few weeks of the season due to a shoulder issue, so it wouldn't be shocking to see the Yankees ease him back into things. His next start will come against the Cleveland Guardians next week. Schmidt isn't a must-have fantasy option, but could help fantasy managers who are lacking talent in the pitching department.Source: mlb.com
Ezequiel Tovar Scratched On Wednesday
2 days agoColorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It sounds like the Rockies are taking the cautious approach and pulling Tovar out of the lineup due to left hip pain. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but the Rockies should give another update on his status shortly. In the meantime, Kyle Farmer will cover shortstop and bat cleanup versus right-hander Bobby Miller. The veteran utility man has been one of the few bright spots in this Colorado lineup early in the season.Source: Thomas Harding
Spencer Strider Takes Loss In 2025 Debut
2 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider took the mound in a big league game for the first time since last April. The right-hander looked solid as he struck out five batters, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings of work. Strider surprisingly came out for the sixth inning, but was quickly pulled from the contest after running into some trouble. Fantasy managers didn't get great results from Strider, but he might need a few starts to shake off some rust. His next start will come against the St. Louis Cardinals next week. Strider is a must-start going forward considering he's one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.Source: mlb.com
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Hits First Homer Of The Season
2 days agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. somehow didn't have a home run entering Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Guerrero struck out in his first at-bat, but finally joined the home run club later in the game. He blasted a 412-foot home run off stud right-hander Spencer Strider in the sixth inning of Wednesday's contest. Guerrero would finish his day 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, and two RBI in the win. He's currently slashing .292/.373/.389 with one homer and 10 RBI. Fantasy managers are hopeful Guerrero will start blasting more long balls.Source: mlb.com
Chris Bassitt Records 10 Strikeouts In Win
2 days agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was excellent on the mound during Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Bassitt had little issues in this game as he struck out 10 batters while allowing only three hits across five scoreless innings on Wednesday. He exited the game after 90 pitches, but did enough in this one to earn himself the win. The rest of the bullpen picked up where Bassitt left off as they recorded a franchise record 19 strikeouts during Wednesday's game. Bassitt has been unbelievable early in the season with only two earned runs across four starts. He's going to be a popular waiver wire addition after this outing.Source: mlb.com
Anthony Davis Available On Wednesday Night
2 days agoDallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis (adductor) will play on Wednesday against the Kings. AD was listed as probable, so most DFS participants were already anticipating his availability for the pivotal Play-In meeting with Sacramento. He met the Kings four times during the regular season, averaging 24.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 1.5 steals, giving him plenty of upside for fantasy managers.Source: Joey Mistretta
Ja Morant Says He'll Play On Friday Night
2 days agoMemphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant (ankle) says he'll suit up for Friday's Play-In game against the Kings or Mavericks. He tweaked his ankle in Tuesday's loss to the Golden State Warriors. Still, Morant finished with 22 points in 35 minutes. DFS managers will likely see the 24-year-old pop up on the Injury report heading into Friday's contest. If Morant suffers a setback and gets ruled out, Scotty Pippen Jr., who averaged 14.2 points, 5.7 assists, and 1.7 steals in 21 starts during the regular season, will likely take over at the one.Source: Drew Hills
Kevin Durant, Rockets Have "Level Of Mutual Interest"
2 days agoAccording to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Rockets might be interested in trading for Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant this offseason. Charania stated both sides have a "level of mutual interest," although things could change depending on how far the Rockets advance during the playoffs. He has one year left on his current deal, so it's unknown how much Houston would be willing to give up. Still, acquiring Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks this season, could make the Rockets an even bigger threat to clubs around the National Basketball Association. As far as his fantasy outlook is concerned, he should remain a valuable fantasy asset in 2025-26, no matter where he ends up. However, Durant will need to stay healthy, with the veteran logging only 60 games during the 2024-25 campaign.Source: Shams Charania
Twins Acquire Jonah Bride From Marlins
2 days agoThe Minnesota Twins acquired infielder Jonah Bride from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Bride was just designated for assignment by Miami on Tuesday, but it didn't take long for another team to come calling for his services. The Twins are placing outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) on the injured list, while shortstop Carlos Correa (wrist) and utility man Willi Castro (oblique) were both injured the last two days as well. The 29-year-old Bride will provide some much-needed position-player depth for the Twins for the time being, although it won't guarantee him regular at-bats with his new organization. Bride did hit .276 (64-for-232) with a career-high 11 homers and 39 RBI in 71 games in 2024 for Miami, but he started 2025 going 4-for-40 (.100) with five walks and 15 strikeouts in 12 games.Source: The Athletic - Dan Hayes
Matt Wallner Lands On Injured List
2 days agoThe Minnesota Twins will be placing outfielder Matt Wallner (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a strained left hamstring in his first at-bat of Tuesday's game against the visiting New York Mets. It's unclear exactly who will be called up from the minors in a corresponding move. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. replaced Wallner in right field on Tuesday and also got the start there for Wednesdays 4-3 extra-inning win, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. It's unclear if Wallner will have a shot to return from the IL when he's eligible, but until he does make it back, Keirsey figures to see a lot more playing time for the Twins in right field, making him worth a waiver-wire pickup in AL-only leagues. Wallner, a former first-rounder in 2019 out of the University of Southern Mississippi, was hitting .263/.373/.474 with an .847 OPS, a homer, five doubles, two triples and three RBI in 18 games before his injury.Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Bobby Nightengale
Pirates Acquire Brett Sullivan From San Diego
2 days agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired catcher Brett Sullivan from the San Diego Padres in exchange for outfielder Bryce Johnson and cash considerations. Sullivan will provide some much-needed catching depth in the Steel City with Endy Rodriguez (finger) on the 10-day injured list and Joey Bart (back) battling an injury. Last season, Sullivan appeared in seven games for the Padres. Across this brief stint, he held a .188 AVG. Sullivan made his MLB debut during the 2023 season with San Diego and held a .210/.244/.284 slash line across 33 contests. Across 375 contests at the Triple-A level, Sullivan has posted a .271/.342/.449 slash line. Fantasy managers should expect Sullivan to begin his tenure with the Pirates at Triple-A, but he should push for a return to the majors.Source: Alex Stumpf
Willi Castro Exits Early Wednesday With Oblique Tightness
2 days agoMinnesota Twins utility man Willi Castro (oblique) left Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the visiting New York Mets at Target Field in the eighth inning due to mild right-oblique tightness, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. With Carlos Correa (wrist) getting injured on Tuesday, Castro started this game at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a double before leaving late in the contest. Correa actually entered the game late as a defensive replacement at the 6, although that doesn't mean the Twins will have either Castro or Correa available to play shortstop for Friday's series opener in Atlanta against the Braves. It's good news that Castro's injury is being described as minor, but oblique injuries can be tricky. There's no guarantee he'll be available to play this weekend after an off day on Thursday. Wednesday's two-hit performance was only Castro's third multi-hit game of the young season.Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Bobby Nightengale
Lucas Glover Looks To Rebound After Poor Performance
2 days agoPrior to his missed cut this past weekend at The Masters, Lucas Glover has had a solid 2025 season thus far at age 45. He has finished in the top 10 in three events, including a T-3 at THE PLAYERS. At this week's RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, players must dial in their iron play due to some of the smallest greens on tour. Although Glover doesn't have the best history at this week's venue, his game fits the course nicely with his 0.522 strokes gained approach to green this year. He has also played very well off the tee this year, ranking fifth in driving accuracy at 71.40%. He's not a slam-dunk start, but he could be a cheap dark horse in DFS this week.Source: PGA Tour
Edgar Quero Set To Make MLB Debut
2 days agoChicago White Sox catching prospect Edgar Quero is set to join the MLB roster prior to Thursday's contest against the Athletics and make his MLB debut. Quero is considered the No. 63 prospect in the sport and the No. 6 prospect in the system on MLB.com. The 22-year-old is also viewed as one of the top catching prospects in the sport. Earlier this season, Quero posted a strong .333/.44/.412 slash line with one double and one round-tripper across 15 games with Triple-A Charlotte. Last summer, Quero spent time with Double-A and Triple-A and held a cumulative .280/.366/.463 slash line with 16 doubles and 16 long balls across 98 games. Fantasy managers should expect the young backstop to likely operate as the top catcher on the Southside. He should be added in all two-catcher formats and is worth targeting in deeper one-catcher leagues.Source: Francys Romero
Will Smith Resting In Series Finale Against Rockies
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith will start on the bench in Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Austin Barnes will do the catching for right-hander Bobby Miller and will hit in the nine-hole against Rockies right-hander German Marquez. The 30-year-old Smith remains one of the best hitting catchers in baseball and has been proving it early on in 2025, slashing .367/.475/.551 with a 1.026 OPS, two home runs, 12 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in 49 total at-bats. He hit his second homer in Tuesday's 6-2 win. He's been especially hot the last three games, going 6-for-12 with a homer and five runs driven in. Although Barnes has hit .286 with a homer and three RBI in 14 career at-bats against Marquez, he'll have little DFS upside at the bottom of the batting order on Wednesday.Source: MLB.com
Landon Knack Optioned To Triple-A
2 days agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned right-handed pitcher Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have promoted right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller to the major leagues. Knack has made three appearances for the Dodgers this season (two starts) and logged eight 2/3 innings to the tune of a 7.27 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. During this brief stint, Knack has struck out seven batters and served up six free passes. Fantasy managers should expect Knack to be in the mix to return to the majors later in the summer when the Dodgers need additional depth in the majors. Last summer, Knack was effective in his MLB debut, tossing 69 innings with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Knack is not worth rostering in any formats while he is with Triple-A Oklahoma City.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers
Stuart Skinner Starts Against Sharks Wednesday
2 days agoEdmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner will be in the net for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the San Jose Sharks. The 26-year-old made a successful return from a head injury on Sunday, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 on the road. This result helped Skinner improve his record to 25-18-4. He has posted a 2.87 goals-against average, a .894 save percentage, and one shutout. The Oilers have received solid goaltending from Skinner, but he hasn't won back-to-back starts in over a month. Wednesday's matchup provides the perfect opportunity to end the poor spell, as the Sharks own the second-worst scoring record in the league.Source: Tony Brar
Teoscar Hernandez Back From Illness On Wednesday
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (illness) is back in right field and is hitting cleanup for Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Colorado Rockies and veteran right-hander German Marquez. Hernandez was feeling under the weather and missed the first two games of the series against Colorado, but he'll return for the finale and should be reinserted into fantasy lineups. The 32-year-old put up a career year in 2024 in his first year in Hollywood and also won a World Series ring. As long as he stays healthy, he should be plenty productive hitting in the heart of one of the most stacked lineups in baseball. In 17 games so far in 2025, he's hit .281 (18-for-64) with five home runs, three doubles, 16 RBI and two stolen bases for his fantasy managers. Hernandez has never faced Marquez in his career.Source: MLB.com
Brenton Doyle Still Not Ready To Return
2 days agoColorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (quadriceps) will miss his sixth straight game in Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Doyle continues to recover from left-quadriceps soreness, but with a day off on Thursday, his fantasy managers will be hoping that he'll be feeling good enough to return to the field for Friday's series opener against the Washington Nationals. But if the 26-year-old is unable to go on Friday or at some point over the weekend, this could turn into an injured-list situation. The former fourth-rounder is a fantasy stud when healthy and is currently batting .321 (17-for-53) with three home runs, 12 RBI, a steal and seven runs scored. Doyle is a must-start in fantasy if he's active. Mickey Moniak is starting in center field and is hitting seventh on Wednesday against Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller, who is making his first MLB start of 2025.Source: MLB.com
Hunter Dobbins Could Start On Friday
2 days agoBoston Red Sox pitching prospect Hunter Dobbins could get the starting nod on Friday evening when the Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox. Dobbins made his MLB debut earlier in April and tossed five innings of two-run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 6. In this outing, Dobbins allowed eight hits, two walks, and struck out five. Manager Alex Cora noted that there is a "good chance" Dobbins gets the call. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Friday's contest. On MLB Pipeline, Dobbins is considered the No. 14-ranked prospect in the Boston system. He has also spent time with Triple-A Worcester this season and allowed eight runs in six 2/3 innings. If he does get the call for Friday's match, he would be worth a look as a streaming option in deep formats in a favorable matchup.Source: Gabrielle Star
Ondrej Palat Out On Wednesday
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils left wing Ondrej Palat (undisclosed) will not play on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. He suffered an undisclosed injury while blocking a shot in Tuesday's win over the Boston Bruins. According to Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe, Palat is still experiencing some soreness. However, the team expects it to be "something he can push through pretty quickly," so it looks like Palat could be available for the start of the postseason. The Czech veteran has made 150 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring 51 goals and 100 points.Source: Amanda Stein
Zac Veen Not In Wednesday's Lineup
2 days agoColorado Rockies outfielder Zac Veen is not in Wednesday's lineup when the Rockies continue a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Veen has been in the starting nine in each of the first eight games since getting the call to the big leagues. During his first taste of the majors, the 23-year-old has held an underwhelming .107/.167/.143 slash line with one double. Instead, the Rockies will give Sean Bouchard the starting nod in left field. He will bat in the eight-hole. Fantasy managers should expect Veen to return to the starting nine on Friday when they start a series against the Washington Nationals. Even though Veen has had a slow start to his MLB career, he should continue to be stashed in deeper category formats given his speed upside.Source: MLB.com
Timo Meier Exits Devils Lineup Wednesday
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils winger Timo Meier (rest) will sit out Wednesday's matchup against the Detroit Red Wings. New Jersey wraps up a back-to-back set and has nothing left to play for in the regular-season finale, so several big names will be kept out of the lineup. It has been an up-and-down year for Meier, but he enjoyed a big finish to his campaign by racking up three points (one goal, two assists) in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins. He recorded 53 points (26 goals, 27 assists) and 141 hits in 80 games during the regular season.Source: Amanda Stein
Drake Baldwin Launches First Career Home Run
2 days agoAtlanta Braves catching prospect Drake Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a home run during Wednesday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was Baldwin's first career MLB home run. He would hit the home run off Toronto closer Jeff Hoffman in the ninth inning. Baldwin opened the season as the team's primary backstop with Sean Murphy (rib) on the injured list. However, with Murphy back in action, Baldwin has fallen back to the No. 2 spot. Despite his limited playing time as of late, the 24-year-old has been heating up at the plate. Entering Wednesday's game, Baldwin held a strong .400/.471/.533 slash line over his last four contests. Fantasy managers in two-catcher formats should continue to hold the Missouri State product as he will still hold value given his emerging bat.Source: MLB.com
Nico Hischier Resting Wednesday Night
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils center Nico Hischier (rest) will not play in Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Detroit Red Wings. The Devils captain will take the night off to rest a bit before the playoffs start. Hischier wraps up the 2024-25 campaign with a career-high 35 goals and 69 points in 75 appearances. He managed to get to the 30-goal plateau for the second time in his career. However, Hischier has scored in only one of his five April appearances, so he needs to find his shooting stick again if the team is going to be successful in the postseason. Dawson Mercer and Cody Glass should receive a bump in usage on Wednesday with Hischier out.Source: Amanda Stein
Josh Smith Missing Second Straight Game
2 days agoTexas Rangers utility man Josh Smith (thumb) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day on Wednesday as the team continues their series against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. Dustin Harris will make the start in left field and will hit sixth against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano. It doesn't sound like Smith's injury is very serious, so there's a chance he could be back in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Angels. With Wyatt Langford (oblique) on the injured list, the 27-year-old utility man had been seeing action in left field for the Rangers. Smith has been excellent at the plate, going 13-for-38 (.342) with a homer, three RBI, three steals and eight runs scored. He lacks power but makes plenty of contact and is useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his positional versatility. Harris will be playing in just his sixth big-league game on Wednesday.Source: MLB.com
Jesper Bratt Sits Out Regular-Season Finale
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils winger Jesper Bratt (rest) will not be in the lineup on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. New Jersey's top scorer will get the night off to rest. This will end up being Bratt's only absence during the regular season. He has enjoyed a wonderful campaign with a career-high 88 points (21 goals, 67 assists) in 81 appearances. With him only on six points (one goal, five assists) through 13 career postseason outings, Bratt will have plenty to prove in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.Source: Amanda Stein
Luke Hughes Won't Play Against Red Wings
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes (rest) will exit the lineup for Wednesday's encounter with the Detroit Red Wings. He has carried a big workload during Dougie Hamilton's (lower body) absence and will get some well-deserved time off ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hughes is set to finish the regular season as New Jersey's highest-scoring defenseman, boasting 44 points (seven goals, 37 assists) in 71 appearances. Hamilton is on 40 points (nine goals, 31 assists) ahead of his return to action on Wednesday night. With Hamilton back in the fold, Hughes' usage is likely to take a hit during the postseason.Source: Amanda Stein
Dougie Hamilton Returns To Action Wednesday
2 days agoNew Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton (lower body) will re-enter the lineup on Wednesday against the Detroit Red Wings. The talented blue-liner has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from a lower-body injury, as initial reports suggested that he may not even be ready for Round 1 of the playoffs. Hamilton last played on March 4. He has been a two-way force while in the lineup, recording 40 points (nine goals, 31 assists), 81 blocks, and 74 hits in 63 outings. With Luke Hughes (rest), Brett Pesce (rest), and Johnathan Kovacevic (rest) out of the lineup on Wednesday, Hamilton should see plenty of action to get rid of some rust ahead of the postseason.Source: Mike Morreale
Sebastian Aho Resting On Wednesday
2 days agoCarolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho (rest) will not play in Wednesday's contest against the Montreal Canadiens. The Hurricanes have nothing left to play for and will rest several key players, including Aho, who leads his team in scoring with 74 points (29 goals, 45 assists) in 79 games. He may also receive additional time off on Thursday night against the Ottawa Senators. Jordan Staal (rest), Seth Jarvis (rest), Jordan Martinook (rest), and Jackson Blake (rest) also won't play against the Canadiens, giving players such as Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Taylor Hall, and Jack Roslovic additional fantasy value.Source: NHL.com
