Padres Trim Three From Roster Before Opening Day
7 years agoSan Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Jeff Sanders reports that San Diego Padres outfielder Travis Jankowski and relievers Phil Maton and Buddy Baumann did not make the Padres Opening Day roster. Jankowski was 8-for-41 (.195) at the plate with three home runs — his only extra-base hits — over 26 games this spring. Baumann had a 3.86 ERA and 6.8 K/9 over 9 1/3 innings while Maton had a 2.45 ERA and 11.0 K/9 over 7 1/3 innings. Of these three, Jankowski is likely the player to have the most impact in fantasy sometime this season because of his speed. In 2016, he stole 30 bases in 42 attempts, and if someone in the Padres current outfield goes down with an injury, he could be an interesting waiver wire pickup in deep leagues.
