Padres, Mets Discussing Trade Involving Eric Hosmer, Others
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres and New York Mets have been in active conversations about a trade that would send first baseman Eric Hosmer and starting pitcher Chris Paddack to the Mets in exchange for outfielder/first baseman Dominic Smith, according to sources. The potential deal would allow the Padres to unload Hosmer's contract while addressing their need in left field. For the Mets, landing Paddack would help boost a rotation that just lost Jacob deGrom (shoulder) for a significant amount of time. Since signing a big deal with San Diego, Hosmer has mostly been a disappointment. Paddack has also been inconsistent and deal with elbow issues last year. Smith was excellent in the shortened 2020 season, but he really struggled in 2021. The New York Post's Joel Sherman is reporting that relief pitcher Emilio Pagan would also be involved in a potential deal.
