Padres Hoping Yu Darvish Returns This Year
4 months agoThe San Diego Padres are holding out hope that right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow, personal) will return this season. They are giving Darvish support and space and admire him as an "honorable man" after he volunteered to go on the restricted list to open a spot up on the team's roster. Darvish initially landed on the 15-day injured list back in early June with a strained groin and then had a setback with his elbow. In addition to his injuries, the 37-year-old was put on the restricted list over three weeks ago while he deals with a personal issue. He has not thrown in a month, so even if he begins ramping up activities sometime soon, fantasy managers probably wouldn't be able to use Darvish until the final month of the regular season. Time is running out. In his 11 starts in 2024 before his groin injury, the veteran Japanese hurler went 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 53 K's in 56 1/3 innings.
