Padres Check In On Matt Boyd
Matt Boyd, per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. No surprise here since seemingly half the league remains in playoff contention and views Boyd as an asset they can capitalize on immediately and in future years. The 28-year-old Boyd is amidst a breakout season with a 3.87 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 32 percent strikeout rate. He’s also under team control through 2022. It’s uncertain what the Tigers would require in return, but outfielders Franmil Reyes and Hunter Renfroe represent controllable power pieces that are already in the majors. The Padres are rumored to have interest in other starters including Noah Syndergaard and Trevor Bauer, so Boyd could just be another name on their homework checklist. Stay tuned.

Matthew Boyd Strikes Out Seven, Earns Win On Monday
Matthew Boyd picked up a quality start in a 9-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Boyd allowed two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out seven and not issuing any walks. The veteran southpaw only made one mistake in the form of a two-run homer to Luis Matos in the fourth inning. Boyd is putting together an excellent first season with the Cubs, posting a 3-2 record, 2.75 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts over 39 1/3 innings of work. He will look to keep it rolling in his next start, which will be Sunday against the New York Mets.

Matthew Boyd Throws Six Scoreless Innings
Matthew Boyd was excellent on the mound during Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres. The left-hander seemingly had no issues as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out five batters in the win. I don't think too many people had Boyd throwing 11 scoreless innings to start the season on their 2025 bingo cards. The 34-year-old has been incredible to start the season, but will run into a tough matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start. It's understandable if fantasy managers are hesitant to add Boyd ahead of this start.

Matthew Boyd Lands With Cubs On Two-Year Deal
Matthew Boyd agreed to a two-year, $29 million deal with the Chicago Cubs on Monday. Boyd will make $14.5 million per year plus $1 million in incentives ($500,000 per season). The 33-year-old southpaw was recovering from Tommy John surgery early in 2024 and didn't sign with the Cleveland Guardians until June. When he finally debuted, he was effective on the mound in Cleveland, going 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA (3.29 FIP), a 1.13 WHIP, 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 39 2/3 frames over his eight starts during the regular season. In the postseason, Boyd was even better, giving up only one run in 12 innings pitched. Although Boyd hasn't made more than 15 regular-season starts in a single season since 2019, he'll give the Cubbies some valuable starting experience for their starting rotation to open the 2025 campaign.

Matthew Boyd To Start Game 3 For Guardians
Matthew Boyd will make the start in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees on Thursday at Progressive Field. Boyd will try to prevent the Yankees from taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw will try to keep the good times rolling in his third career postseason start after blanking the division-rival Detroit Tigers over 6 2/3 innings in his two starts against them in the AL Division Series. In those starts, Boyd allowed five hits, walked three and struck out 10 batters. He made only eight starts during the regular season for Cleveland but was solid with a 2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46 K's. Boyd allowed three earned runs on four walks and two K's in 5 1/3 innings in his lone outing against the Yankees back on Aug. 20 in the Bronx.
