Packers See Big Things For Jamaal Williams
6 years agoGreen Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has confidence in running back Jamaal Williams as the lead back this year. "He's really poised to have a big year," McCarthy said this week. "Clearly without playing a game yet, I think we'll be talking about him at the end of the season as a second-year player that's made the jump." Williams ended last year as the team's top back, but he had just 556 yards (3.63 yards per carry). Aaron Jones might be the most explosive back on the team, but he missed most of the first three weeks of training camp, the first two preseason games and will be suspended for two games to open the year. Williams is the most versatile of the three, which has separated his as the No. 1 back to open the year. This backfield could morph into a committee at any time, though, which makes Williams somewhat of a risky pick. Still, he has RB2 upside.
