Oswaldo Cabrera Tests Out Center Field
2 years agoNew York Yankees utility fielder Oswaldo Cabrera added another position to his repertoire after playing some center field in Wednesday's 4-0 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cabrera made his first pro appearance in center field after subbing in for Harrison Bader. He even made a diving catch, demonstrating his ability to play almost anywhere on the diamond. Manager Aaron Boone noted that Cabrera's stint in center field is "showing us that anywhere you put him on the field, he can make a play." The 24-year-old made an immediate impact after a late-season call-up to provide some outfield depth. His defense quickly impressed, and his bat showed some life as well. Cabrera compiled a .740 OPS with six home runs across 171 plate appearances. The Yankees expect Cabrera to serve as a utility man throughout the season, with some pop to accompany it.
