Oswald Peraza Continues To Struggle
2 years agoNew York Yankees shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza went 0-for-4 versus the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Peraza entered camp as the favorite to win the shortstop job, but has struggled to the tune of a .188 batting average to go along with one homer, one RBI and a pair of stolen bases. The 22-year-old made his big-league debut at the end of 2022 and hit a respectable .306 with one home run, two RBI and two stolen bases in 49 at-bats. Peraza has shown a nice combination speed and pop throughout his professional career, but top prospect and fellow shortstop Anthony Volpe has been on fire this spring and is breathing down Peraza's neck for the Opening Day start. Peraza is already on the 40-man roster, while Volpe is not and it's also possible that we see both players up the middle for the Yankees with Peraza shifting to second base. Volpe's draft value would climb significantly if he wins the job and managers with upcoming drafts should monitor the situation closely.
