Orelvis Martinez Has Plenty Of Power In His Bat
1 year agoToronto Blue Jays shortstop/third base prospect Orelvis Martinez has struggled since being promoted to Triple-Buffalo on July 17. Martinez, 21, hasn't hit much for average at either stop this season, but has shown plenty of power out of his bat with 19 homers between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo. He has also driven in 56 runs with a .223 batting average. Martinez has always shown plenty of power in his bat, but his pitch selection has been his biggest barrier thus far. With Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette currently day-to-day with knee inflammation and the possibility of an injured list stint, Martinez would make for an exciting replacement, but the Blue Jays acquired Paul DeJong in a deadline deal and also have fellow shortstop Addison Barger in Triple-A. Martinez is worth rostering in dynasty formats due to his power, but managers shouldn't expect that to be on display in the big leagues this season.
