Omar Narvaez Goes Deep In Loss
6 years agoSeattle Mariners catcher Omar Narvaez launched a solo homer off of Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi in Friday's contest. It was the first of the year for the backstop as he finished the night going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Narvaez is in line for the lion's share of playing time behind the dish for the Mariners and could provide some surprising value this season. He's a player to watch in single-catcher mixed leagues as he can provide a solid batting average with some additional pop to go with it.

Omar Narvaez Exercises His 2024 Option
1 year agoNew York Mets catcher Omar Narvaez exercised his $7 million player option for the 2024 season on Thursday, so he will return to Queens next year. This move doesn't come as a surprise with Narvaez slated to earn $7 million next season as the primary backup to up-and-coming young backstop Francisco Alvarez. The 31-year-old Narvaez is a glove-first catcher who hit a weak .211/.283/.297 in 49 games for the Mets in 2023 with two home runs, five doubles, seven RBI and 12 runs scored in 146 plate appearances in his first year with the Mets. Narvaez can be avoided in fantasy drafts next spring in the vast majority of leagues. Alvarez is the fantasy backstop you want.

Mets Reinstate Omar Narvaez From Injured List
2 years agoThe New York Mets reinstated catcher Omar Narvaez (calf) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and designated catcher Tomas Nido for assignment in a corresponding move. Narvaez will return to the big-league roster after missing the last two months with a pretty serious left-calf strain. With Nido out of the picture, the 31-year-old veteran backstop will split playing time behind the dish with rising catching prospect Francisco Alvarez. Narvaez had only 14 at-bats before going down with his calf injury, and he had four hits, two RBI and a run scored. Alvarez has picked things up offensively after a slow start, and he'll have much more offensive upside than Narvaez moving forward.

Omar Narvaez To Begin His Rehab Assignment Thursday
2 years agoNew York Mets backstop Omar Narvaez (calf) is ready to start his rehab assignment and will join High-A Brooklyn on Thursday, according to MLB.com. The one-time All-Star has been out of action since April 5 after suffering a calf strain. Before the injury, Narvaez was hitting .286 with no home runs over just five games. The 31-year-old should return to the Mets in early June if all goes well. When he is back, expect him to take Gary Sanchez's spot on the roster and back up fellow catcher Francisco Alvarez. Without everyday playing time, Narvaev is irrelevant in just about every league.

Omar Narvaez Almost Ready For A Rehab Assignment
2 years agoNew York Mets catcher Omar Narvaez (calf) is nearing a rehab assignment, which should come late next week, according to MLB.com. The 31-year-old went on the injured list after suffering a calf strain on April 5. He isn't eligible to return until June 5, but that might not be out of reach as things are heading in the right direction. Narvaez was hitting .286 with one run and two RBI before the ailment, but he struggled mightily in 2022, slashing .206/.292/.305 with four homers across 84 games. The Mets recently recalled backstop Gary Sanchez, so fantasy managers can expect to see Francisco Alvarez and Sanchez sharing time behind the plate for now.
