Olli Maatta Considered A Game-Time Call Sunday
2 days agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman Olli Maatta (lower body) is a game-time call for Sunday's tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Finnish rearguard was injured on Friday night in a matchup against the Florida Panthers and is now in danger of missing Sunday's action. Utah has seen Maatta produce 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) in 63 games since the team acquired him from the Detroit Red Wings in late October. He ranks third on the team with 112 blocks. Nick DeSimone and Robert Bortuzzo (lower body) are potential replacements for Maata if he is not available. Utah has activated Bortuzzo from Injured Reserve ahead of the game.

Olli Maatta Shipped To Utah
5 months agoThe Detroit Red Wings have traded veteran defenseman Olli Maatta to the Utah Hockey Club. Utah sent out a 2025 third-round draft pick to bolster its injury-hit defense. The NHL's new boys have lost Sean Durzi (shoulder) and John Marino (lower back) to long-term injuries. Maatta, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, has skated in seven games with the Red Wings this season, going scoreless with three shots, seven blocks, and three hits. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much production from him on his new team, either.

Olli Maatta Ruled Out For Saturday
1 year agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Olli Maatta (upper body) won't play on Saturday against New Jersey. He was injured in Friday's battle with the Flyers, playing less than six minutes. The two-time Stanley Cup champion has made 27 appearances with the Red Wings this season, logging six points (one goal, five assists) with 29 blocks and a plus-six rating. Jake Walman, who sat out Friday's action, will likely re-enter the lineup on Saturday as Maatta's replacement.

Olli Maatta Working His Way Back From Pneumonia
2 years agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Olli Maatta (illness) has been battling pneumonia, it was revealed on Friday. He has been held out of the last four games with an illness, but Maatta shared some further details following Friday's practice, saying that he was dealing with pneumonia. The Finnish blue-liner is feeling much better now and will be a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against Ottawa. Maatta has found himself a nice role in Motown this season, averaging nearly 20 minutes of ice time and posting 10 points in 25 games with a plus-11 rating. His return would be a nice boost for a team that will be trying to end a four-game skid.

Olli Maatta Takes Over For Alexander Edler
3 years agoLos Angeles Kings defenseman Olli Maatta will enter the lineup on Tuesday against Tampa, replacing Alexander Edler (lower body) on the second defensive pairing. The Swedish blue-liner was injured early in Saturday's 2-1 win over Minnesota, and the team has placed him on Injured Reserve. Maatta has been a healthy scratch for six consecutive games. He's notched two points in 15 games with 10 shots, 12 hits and 25 blocks. The 27-year-old will have an opportunity to impress, but he's not a guy fantasy managers should look at.
