10 months agoEdmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl told reporters on Wednesday that his team won't be intimidated by the Florida Panthers' physical style of play in their upcoming Stanley Cup Final series that kicks off Saturday in Sunrise. "We can be a physical team too. Obviously, we like to play with the puck but we're certainly not intimidated by physicality." The Panthers have displayed a physical style of play not only this postseason but in their march to the Stanley Cup Final last spring. At the same time, the Oilers play a puck-possession game that largely relies on their star players, feeding the narrative that the likes of Draisaitl land superstar Connor McDavid will be heavily targeted in the series.--Brenton Kemp

5 days agoEdmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) is expected to remain out for this week's action. The Oilers begin a three-game slate on Wednesday against the Dallas Stars. Edmonton has already been without Draisaitl for two games as the German superstar battles an undisclosed injury. Connor McDavid (lower body) joined Draisaitl on the shelf at the weekend, making Ryan Nugent-Hopkins the team's new first-line center. The absence of the star duo also gave Adam Henrique an opportunity to work as the second-line center on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken, where he opened the scoring on a power play in an eventual 5-4 victory for the Oilers.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

1 week agoEdmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) will remain sidelined on Saturday evening when the Oilers face the Seattle Kraken. Draisaitl was unable to suit up in their previous contest on Thursday evening with this same injury. Before Thursday's contest, head coach Kris Knoblauch noted that the team is taking a "cautious" approach. In addition, Connor McDavid (lower body) will also miss Saturday's contest and will leave the Edmonton offense shorthanded. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Draisaitl's status, as the team has yet to provide a definitive timetable. Since the start of the month (nine games), Draisaitl has tallied 13 points with five goals. While Draisaitl and McDavid remain sidelined, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Henrique will operate as the top centers in the offense.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 week agoEdmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed) is expected to miss Thursday's matchup against the Winnipeg Jets. He is dealing with a minor injury, and the team considers him day-to-day. So far this season, Draisaitl hasn't missed any action, totaling 49 goals and 101 points in 68 games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will likely move up in the lineup and grab Draisaitl's spot as the second-line center. This will boost Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' fantasy value, although he has already put together back-to-back big performances, posting one goal and five assists over the past two games. For the season, Nugent-Hopkins has notched 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 67 contests.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl found the back of the net twice to lead Edmonton to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday evening. Draisaitl scored his first goal in the second frame on a slap shot. Later in overtime, Draisaitl scored the game-winner on a snap shot. This performance extended his point streak to an incredible 17 games. During this stretch, Draisaitl has scored 14 goals and added 12 helpers. He has held a +2 rating and tallied 10 points on the power play. Through 66 total games this season, the 29-year-old has enjoyed another fantastic season as he has tallied 100 points (49 goals). Draisaitl earned 30 of his points on the power play and has averaged 3.25 shots on goal per game. He will look to stay hot on Sunday evening against the New York Rangers.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
