Nomar Mazara Released By Tigers On Wednesday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Nomar Mazara was released on Wednesday and will become a free agent, the team announced on Twitter. Mazara had been looking for a bounce-back performance from a disappointing 2020 campaign, but he was not able to produce with Detroit as he slashed .212/.276/.321 with three home runs, 19 RBI and 12 runs scored in 50 games. After averaging almost 20 home runs a year through his first four seasons with Texas, Mazara's numbers have dropped off a cliff over the past two years. There could be any number of factors for this, but it is possible he could be dealing with lingering after effects of COVID-19, which he contracted during the 2020 season and did not appear to play at 100 percent after he came back last year. Any managers that had him rostered can safely drop him to the waiver wire now, and don't bother picking him up until he can show a significant turnaround wherever he lands.
