No Front-Runner For Cardinals Center-Field Job
1 month agoThe Athletic's Katie Woo writes that there currently is no front-runner for the starting role in center field for the St. Louis Cardinals. Michael Siani saw most of his playing time in center in 2024 and proved to be a standout defender. However, Victor Scott II has gone 7-for-12 with a double, triple and a home run in Grapefruit League action, and his elite speed plays. On top of that close competition, Lars Nootbaar potentially seeing time in center has complicated things even more. Manager Oliver Marmol is moving players around in the outfield as he tries to maximize playing time for Siani, Scott and Nootbaar in spring training. Nootbaar and Scott are the most attractive for fantasy purposes -- Nootbaar for his power and Scott for his speed -- but this situation could be trending toward a platoon, which would make both players more attractive for outfield depth in deeper fantasy formats.
