Nico Hoerner Sitting Again On Sunday
6 months agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (hand) is out of the team's starting lineup on Sunday against the division-rival Cincinnati Reds. It comes as no surprise after the team announced on Saturday that he was dealing with a small fracture in his hand after being hit by a pitch on Thursday. The 27-year-old could avoid a trip to the injured list, though, if the swelling in his hand goes down quickly. The Cubbies have a scheduled off day coming on Monday, but it's far from a guarantee that Hoerner will be able to play in Tuesday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. In 210 at-bats so far in 2024 for Chicago, Hoerner is slashing .252/.344/.352 with only two home runs, 17 RBI, seven stolen bases and 31 runs scored. Michael Busch is at the keystone on Sunday and is batting seventh against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas.
