Nico Hoerner Returns To Injured List
4 years agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Hoerner suffered the injury when he was trying to beat out an infield hit. This will be his second stint on the injury list this season. He previously was sidelined with a strained forearm. It's a shame as Hoerner has been hitting the ball at a .338 average and playing Gold Glove defense. Infielder Matt Duffy (back) would have been the biggest beneficiary with Hoerner gone, but he went on the 10-day injured on Tuesday with a lower back tightness. Second baseman Eric Sogard and infielder David Bote are now likely to platoon at second base and the Cubs also signed second baseman Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor league contract on Wednesday morning. Strange-Gordon could offer managers speed if he gets promoted, but none of the three offer much to be excited about in season-long leagues. Outfielder Rafael Ortega will replace Hoerner on the roster and can remain on the waiver wire.
