Nick Mullens Inconsistent In Backup QB Audition
3 months agoMinnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens got the start and played the first half in the team's second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. The seventh-year veteran completed 11 of his 21 attempts, accumulating 135 yards passing with one touchdown and no interceptions. Mullens looked sharp in his first two drives as he led his team to 10 first-quarter points, though he struggled with pressure as he took three sacks in the five full drives he played. With the Vikings placing rookie J.J. McCarthy (knee) on injured reserve after a meniscus repair, the team opted not to play Sam Darnold and instead worked out their backups. Mullens represents the incumbent as he had been with the team in the past two seasons and, unless traded, will likely be the QB2 for Minnesota.
