Nick Martinez Allows Just One Hit In Stellar Outing
3 months agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Nick Martinez turned in his best start of the season on Saturday as he tossed seven innings of one-hit ball while striking out seven. The lone hit came in the fourth inning off designated hitter Gary Sanchez. Martinez tossed five shutout innings in his last start and may have begun to turn the corner as a full-time starter. The 34-year-old has bounced between a starting role and a relief role this season and has held a 3.16 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP, with a 10:75 BB:K ratio. Under the hood, he carries an excellent 29.3% hard-hit rate and a 3.8% barrel rate, which could suggest he could continue to enjoy a nice second half. Martinez could be worth adding in all leagues if he continues this impressive run.
