Nestor Cortes Jr. Records Quality Start In No-Decision
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched well despite not factoring into the decision in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays. Cortes tossed six innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits while striking out five with no walks issued. The left-hander kept a mighty Blue Jays lineup off-balance with a fastball-slider combo, which accounted for 10 of his 12 swinging strikes. Cortes recorded his third quality start in the last five outings, though he still owns an underwhelming 2-2 record on the season. With a strong 2.70 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings, the 26-year-old should remain a factor in the Yankee rotation- and for fantasy teams- especially considering the injuries to Gerrit Cole (hamstring) and Jameson Taillon (ankle).
