Nationals Considering Anibal Sanchez
6 years agoThe Washington Nationals have kicked the tires on free-agent starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who had a 1.50 ERA in 18 innings against them as a member of the Braves last year. The veteran right-hander held the Nats to a .159 average and .576 OPS. Sanchez surprised everyone when he went 7-6 with a 2.83 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 8.9 K/9 over 25 appearances (24 starts) with the Braves last season. That came a year after he was destroyed to the tune of a 6.41 ERA in 105 1/3 innings with Detroit. While Sanchez is a crafty veteran, nobody should bank on him posting another sub-3.00 ERA season next year. Washington is looking for another rotation arm after just trading Tanner Roark to the Reds. Sanchez hasn't gone 180 innings in a season since 2013 with Detroit.
