The Chicago Bears have released veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman ahead of Tuesday's deadline for teams to cut down to 53 active players. Peterman could sign back with the practice squad, but it looks like rookie Tyson Bagent will serve as Justin Fields' direct backup in 2023. Peterman has thrown four touchdowns to 13 interceptions since entering the NFL in 2017 and has spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders before joining Chicago last offseason. Needless to say, he's not on the fantasy radar in any format.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

The Las Vegas Raiders released veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman on Tuesday, according to a source. Peterman only lasted two weeks on the Raiders roster while Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O'Connell were still competing for the starting role under center. With Peterman now out of the picture, Vegas will roll with Minshew as the starter, O'Connell as the backup and rookie Carter Bradley as the QB3 for the Week 1 regular-season opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers. In the preseason finale, the 30-year-old veteran went 12-for-19 for 108 yards and a touchdown. The journeyman backup QB started his career with the Buffalo Bills after they took him in the fifth round in 2017 out of Pittsburgh. Peterman has played in only 15 games (five starts) in his six years in the NFL and has 712 yards passing, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Las Vegas Raides quarterback Nathan Peterman completed 12-of-19 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his poise and experience in Friday’s 24-24 tie to the San Francisco 49ers. Despite this, his path to fantasy relevance remains obstructed by Aidan O'Connell, who seems to have the inside track for the backup quarterback position behind Gardner Minshew II. Peterman's familiarity with the Raiders could aid his case for a roster spot, but from a fantasy perspective, this performance doesn't elevate him beyond a deep-league watchlist candidate. Even if secured, his role projects to be behind O'Connell, rendering Peterman largely irrelevant for fantasy rosters unless significant changes or injuries alter the depth chart. Fantasy managers should monitor the situation, but Peterman's fantasy impact looks minimal for the upcoming season.--Jay Skadooley - RotoBaller

The Las Vegas Raiders signed free-agent quarterback Nathan Peterman to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Peterman rejoins the Raiders after recently being cut in training camp by the New Orleans Saints. The 30-year-old former fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2017 spent two years with the Raiders from 2020-21 and went 3-for-5 for 25 yards in just two games played in that span. He has gone 85-for-160 for 712 yards, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 15 games (five starts) in his six seasons in the NFL. In Vegas, he'll be competing for the No. 3 role with Anthony Brown Jr. as Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell battle for the starting gig under center to kick off the 2024 regular season in early September.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

The Chicago Bears re-signed quarterback Nathan Peterman to their practice squad on Monday and designated defensive back Kyler Gordon (hand) to return from Injured Reserve. It's the third time already this year that Chicago has re-signed the 29-year-old veteran to their practice squad. For now, he'll continue to provide depth at the position behind starter Justin Field and rookie backup Tyson Bagent. Peterman, a former fifth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2017, has played in 13 games (five starts) in his NFL career with the Bills, Las Vegas Raiders and Bears and has thrown for 712 yards, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions over five seasons. He played in three games (one start) for the Bears in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
