Nathan Eovaldi Dealing With Left Side Tightness
2 years agoTexas Rangers general manager Chris Young said that starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (side) is dealing with "left side tightness" and will not make his next scheduled Cactus League start. It's similar to the injury that Jacob deGrom came into camp with, and the Rangers will play it safe with Eovaldi in the coming week. As long as Eovaldi doesn't have any further setbacks once he starts to throw again, he will have time to get stretched out for Opening Day. The 33-year-old right-hander was limited to only 20 starts in 2022 with the Boston Red Sox due to back and shoulder injuries, so it's not a good sign that he's already hurt again in camp. A drop in strikeout rate and problems with the long ball also hurt him. Eovaldi's K rate could jump back up if he stays healthy, but durability has been an issue for him in the past.
