4 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts (hip) is targeting a return from the injured list on Thursday, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Manager Dave Roberts said that the plan is for Betts to go through a simulated game during the team's off day on Monday, and will repeat activities on Tuesday with the goal of being activated for the series finale with the Padres. Betts has been dealing with a bone spur on his hip that has caused him issues all season long, and has had him sidelined since the beginning of August. Keep an eye out for updates on how Betts responds over the next two days, but it looks like he'll be back in action by the end of the week.--Michael

3 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said on Monday that outfielder Mookie Betts is preparing to play shortstop in 2025. It means that Tommy Edman would be the club's regular center fielder, while Gavin Lux would be in line for regular duties at the keystone. Betts began last year on the infield but was moved back to right field after returning from a fractured left wrist. The 32-year-old has been an All-Star in each of the last eight full seasons, although injuries are starting to become an issue, and it led to a big drop in OPS (.863) and home runs (19), which can be attributed to his wrist injury. Betts also isn't as much of a threat to run, having not reached the 20-steal mark since 2018. It's something to think about, but Betts is still a well-above average player in the best lineup in baseball and could be eligible at short, second and outfield in fantasy leagues in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes stated Wednesday that the team will play Mookie Betts on the infield in 2025. The 32-year-old played mostly outfield for the Dodgers in 2021 and 2022, but started on the infield in almost half of his games played in 2023. In 2024, the veteran started on the infield in 73 of the 116 (63%) games he played, split between shortstop (61) and second base (12). It is important to note, but he'll be a top tier fantasy producer regardless of position, however, it could come to the detriment of Gavin Lux and others who played the middle infield for the reigning World Series champs in the second half of the season.--Jarod Rupp - RotoBaller

5 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts was all over the score sheet on Friday, going 4-for-6 with a homer, a double, three runs scored, and four RBI. Betts led the way for the Dodgers to take a commanding 3-1 series lead with a 10-2 win over the New York Mets in Game 4 of the NLCS. Betts has been solid since shedding his postseason hitless streak that dated back to last year. He is now hitting .278 with a .964 OPS to go along with three homers and 10 RBI in 36 at-bats in these playoffs. Betts and the Dodgers will look to close out the series on Friday when they send Jack Flaherty to the bump.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

5 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts delivered a clutch bases-loaded double to put Game 1 of the NLCS out of reach on Sunday. Betts big hit put a cap on a 9-0 onslaught over the New York Mets. He finished the day 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored, and three RBI. He was somehow the only player on either team to collect an extra-base hit, even though there were 12 hits in total. The 32-year-old has had a solid postseason, hitting two homers, driving in six, and posting a .891 OPS in 22 at-bats. He will look to keep it rolling against Sean Manaea in Game 2 on Monday.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
