Mookie Betts Not Rushing To Sign Extension
6 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts seems intent on testing the free-agent waters when his contract is up. "That’s exactly what I expect. I don’t expect anything to happen until I’m a free agent," Betts said when asked if he expects to enter the 2019 season without signing a long-term extension. The 2018 American League MVP is eligible to become a free agent after the 2020 season. Betts confirmed that he rejected Boston's eight-year, $200 million extension after the 2017 season. The 26-year-old is seen as the second best player behind Mike Trout, who just signed a 13-year, $430 million extension. While Trout is the consensus No. 1 fantasy pick, Betts is going right behind him at No. 2.
