Mookie Betts Making Another Run At MVP
1 year agoIn 2018, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts was the American League MVP, slashing .346/.438/.640 and winning a World Series with the Boston Red Sox. With the Dodgers this season, he is batting .285/.385/.587 and has set a franchise record with 10 leadoff home runs. Betts' shortstop and second base defensive contributions keep him in the MVP conversation. His infield contributions can't be ignored, with just three defensive errors on the season. While he is still behind Ronald Acuna Jr., and competing against his teammate, Freddie Freeman, for this year's MVP award, his defensive versatility keeps him in the conversation. The 30-year-old is having a terrific season in 2023, slashing .282/.382/.580 with 27 home runs, 65 RBI, 75 runs, and seven stolen bases over 421 plate appearances. Betts is hitting .412 (14-for-34) over his last eight games and will look to stay hot in Wednesday's matchup against Baltimore's right-hander Dean Kremer.
