MLB Won't Counter Players' Latest Proposal
4 years agoMajor League Baseball won't counter the Players Association's latest proposal to play 70 games this year, instead sticking with their most recent offer of 60 games at full prorated salaries. The players can either accept the 60-game offer with expanded playoffs and promise not to file a grievance, or reject it and force commissioner Rob Manfred to implement a schedule while keeping the right to file a grievance against the league. Complicating matters is the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen a spike in cases in Florida and Arizona recently. "Our Executive Board will convene in the near future to determine next steps. Importantly, players remain committed to getting back to work as soon as possible," MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said in a statement on Friday.
